Well thank you for that wealth of well known information ;) but I was really just referring to how I go about beating the boss of Angel Island zone. (as of next february 2 I've been playing sonic 3 for 20 years now, so yeah I'm well awaire of how the shields work) Incidently, do you use the spin-dash jump? It's one of my favorite moves, as it more than doubles sonic's horizontal jump distance.
