Thanks for the tip on the food mill vs Victorio. I’ve debated getting a Victorio, but didn’t think I really needed another gadget. That food mill looks simpler and much easier to clean and store.

I just canned 22 pints and 1 half pint of tomato sauce. I used 50 lbs of Romas and I use my Weston Tomato Press/Sauce Maker. Easy Peasy and so much time saved! I love not having to peel the tomatoes first.

I freeze my tomatoes, then drain off the extra liquid and just slide the tomatoes out of the skins to dehydrate for tomato powder. I run the tomatoes threw the food mill or my kitchen aid to get the seeds out.
@Jeni_Gough3 жыл бұрын
Nice! I freeze mine sometime too. I think have a video on it. 😊 I did tomato powder from the skins 5 years ago and didn’t care for the flavor so now they all end up in out compost for the garden.
@littlecreekhomestead40863 жыл бұрын
@@Jeni_Gough I found the taste is better if you dehydrate on a very low setting. But not everyone likes the same flavors.

I see you are using kosher salt. You can can with that??
@Jeni_Gough3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is no iodine in kosher salt. Table salt is the only one you shouldn’t can with. You can use table salt but your product will be cloudy. 😊

Beautiful tomato sauce. My mother was also a grandma Sue but when she was at my house she was not allowed to be trusted with anything Sharp but she did fine at her own house. I don't know if cooking in my kitchen made her nervous or what but she was forever cutting herself nicking herself or burning herself actually. We actually had quite a laugh about it.
