I think low MMR players that play a lot of the same hero get really good at the early game because there's not a lot of variability yet. Ward here, gank there etc etc. Then once the game goes late they struggle to adapt/adjust and fall into old habits and it's why they never really climb MMR even though their hero mechanics might be so good after so many games on one hero

its actually the truth=))) i play since dota 1 launched, ruined so many games on purpose for toxic players when mmr was introduced, still do that for some toxic people and having fun because gettin out of "Here" needs a loooot of grinding and spaming certain heroes and we are not in the mood (all of the pro players from dota 1 are above 30 years) fun bracket doe and very very toxic.

To be fair, a lot of people forget tree's right click early on is real good, and against a pudge with 1-2 armour plus rot and seed running, that's going really suck to stand and fight. It's depressing to get a start like this pudges and then watch your carry lose so hard they rage jungle and destroy all their items... so common in SEA.

There actually quite many herald player that is good at particular hero. And they well verse in those hero mechanic. Probably even better in my ancient bracket where people can play many hero but not really good at it. It just that their game understanding is so low (their map movement reading, when to take objective, ward, vision, itemization, timing, power spike, connecting with team, etc)

Crusader here with 2,700 hours. Not a lot for Dota standards but as a low ranker I gotta say, spamming one hero is the best way to enjoy Dota at my rank. I will never be as good as most actual people who play only Dota, but spamming Nyx has helped me master this one hero in particular so I can still feel good at the game and win a lot of games despite not being fit to rank up. I know exactly where this Pudge is coming from

Ok so what happens the lower the mmr, its not necessarily lower skilled players. The range of skill variance is actually pretty big. Herald players are better than guardian players, and maybe better than crusador. In a lot of my games, there are 0min smoke ganks, the supports stack, pull and block camps. People rotate. People farm well, especially if unchecked... There are three reasons for this. The first is there are a lot more smurfs at a lower mmr than at higher mmrs. This is because the pool of potential smurfs is bigger and if you are going to tank your mmr for easy games why not get close to the bottom. Because of this, your teammates are either ten year veterans or players who actually are bad and have maybe 300 games played. The second reason, is matchmaking is not really accurate and the trench is absolutely real. The hurdle is guardian because there are lots of genuine noobs who got carried there (by smurfs) and way less actual smurfs, if there is a smurf they are likely going to soft-throw the game by playing a hero they dont know or by playing poorly - sometimes this will be on your team sometimes it will be on your enemy team. Mmr just isnt really accurate. If people think that heralds dont smoke/stack/pull/block because archons dont, then matchmaking is borked. Lastly, attitude is a massive factor. Good players with behaviour issues or good players who dont care about mmr will inevitably sink to herald. They are good players but they tilt easy and/or don't work well with teams. I only know that 0-500mmr arguably has more skill in the pool than 2.5k-3.5k is because i went through a phase of just abandoning games when i didnt feel like finishing it. I stopped caring about winning and treated it like golf, competing against my own performance. I wanted to lose games more often than I wanted to win them because I knew a loss just meant my next game would be more fun. Idk why i wrote this essay, i guess i just feel the need to correct people who have gross misconceptions of how bad herald players are. Even the noobs have at least 300 games played and you dont pass through 2700 players without having basic shit like creep equilibrium explained to you.

FYI heralds SOMETIMES play better than some other higher medals, in Herald you will find people trapped in that medal for years, guys who never play with boosters/friends/parties (like me) and I know that there are pure Heralds too, but you would be surprise the amount of good players in Herald/Guardian, better than players in higher brackets but with bad luck, I mean this is a 5 v 5 game not a 1 v 1 game, you know

Herald pudge is the most fun i ever had in dota. Quit playing like 7 years ago. Was ~5k mmr when w33 hit 6k, and pudge was my fav hero, but unfortunately useless at that level. back then it was so toxic for me. Flaming, insta lock mid or carry, getting angry on teammates and my mistakes. Recently started playing now and then again and got calibrated in guardian. Man, i just don’t care about climbing ranks cause i play couple games a week, and cant really go lower than that. It’s so much fun. Hooking heralds is easier than bots, bots have inhuman reflexes for some reason. Hitting blind hooks on t2 when u last saw them at t3, juking people in the trees when i could just run away. Crazy armlet plays in 1v1s, trolling people with puck. Sometimes i start singing “we are electric”. Giving me dota1 childhood vibes without tryharding.

when someone said many smurf on lower bracket was not fully true. sometimes many people just opt to play unranked and gain skill on the lower bracket. and they stop to take a chance to go higher because IMO they sick to play ranked with either account buyer from higher bracket that already sold many times, boosters or smurfs. because it happened to me many times.

I played with a toxic team and blame me for 2 dragon lance meepo. he trash talked so hard then we lost. the next game we saw each other and i absolutely destroyed him the next game with my meepo again. it was really fun

The problem with pudge are there's always no teammate to back you up when opportunities to hook come, hook failed and they just back to farm when the pudge can just blink and dismember, one failed hook and then your team just leave then you got the hook after the cd but the team already far away in the jungle

This is a great example that two people at the same rank can have wildly different skill sets. This pudge has the early game down. But then absolutely no map awareness or teamfight ability. Then look at clinkz, initiating fights, always with the team, but mechanically really bad. They are both the same rank and deserve their rank though. Pretty cool.

I play both league and Dota, and in LoL I have many matches as my main support is Thresh. He is similar to Pudge and when I miss all my skills I just flash on top of them and kill them with auto attacks xD

I see many herald players who are better than most ancient players, but they're stuck in herald because climbing in herald is different from ancient or higher. There are heroes that dominate herald, but don't in ancient, same goes for some items. If you buy blade mail every time, your win rate will double, because most in herald don't stop attacking you when you activate it, and in fact many will focus you when you do. It almost works like LC's ult there. On another hand items like blink are useless in herald because people won't disable you anyway. In fact buying blink will drastically lower your win rate in herald because it's wasted money. It's bought primarily to avoid disables when initiating, but if no one is disabling you, it's a waste. It's like buying MKB against WR that doesn't use windrun. And I've seen such WRs in herald, they use windrun to when fight starts even though no one is targeting them, and then when they should use it, it's on CD. But most fail to click it with their mouse cursor when the battle starts. They panic and missclick everything.
