Can I just say a HUGE thank you for showing up close pictures of your unfiltered skin. I'm so used to seeing these filtered, photoshopped, perfected pictures that when my skin looks "normal" (like your close up pics) I think I've done something wrong or that the product isn't working for me when it's just pores and texture that everyone has (but we never see online) Your skin looks flawless during the videos so seeing the up close pics really helps me to see that it's lighting and all that. I'm in my 40s, just gotten into skincare and makeup in the last few years and honestly have a hard time telling when things have been filtered/touched up. When I first got into makeup/skincare I beat myself up so bad because my looks didn't look like the looks I was copying and my face looked so textured and old, my self esteem really took a hit.

I think that, no, that one sustainable makeup company isn’t going to change the world, but the more these ideas are implemented the better. In order to make a big difference, lots of little changes need to be made first so I think this is a good thing and I hope they succeed!

I honestly see this like the expresso maker and the Keurig they have the option to. I do believe people are going to buy this and have no intention of actually going through the process of recycling. I can't wait to see the words Bio degradable what do they mean by that and how long will it take to actually decompose these are questions should honestly be answered answered before putting a product on the market.

@@KG9551 Exactly on that note and how sustainable and recyclable is this package. Look at that hair care bottle that looked like cardboard but when you cut it open the inside was plastic. I’d have rather seen then offer refills for the containers in biodegradable packaging at a cheaper cost. Subscription models are never in the best interest of a consumers wallet. And while stainless is a decent packaging option, glass bottles of all three of those products already exist and are good options without the double transport issues.

I wish companies would spend the money to get FDA approval for sunscreen filters that are available in Europe and Australia, especially UVA filters. Also would love to see the prices come down so you wouldn't feel like you're spending an arm and a leg for a product you use everyday. I think they need standardize packaging between lines. Like all Estee Lauder brands use the same bottles with different labels. Then they have recycling drop offs at retailers for a bottle return credit and the bottles can be sterilized, relabeled, and reused. If everything from a big corporate brand could be recycled, that'd be a significant reduction in waste.

Wende Zomnir did NOT found Urban Decay. She was a hired face of Urban Decay after its creation by 2 executive women that were older, Sandy Lerner and Patricia Holmes, because they needed someone to publicly encapsulate their vision for the brand. She was nowhere near the mansion when they were mixing what would become their signature color (the inception of the company).

My husband made me rewind and listen to the news of Blackstone buying the sunscreen skincare line. He is a mechanical engineer working in defense and he said Blackstone owns most of the banks and there's a lot of conspiracies about them because they keep a VERY low profile. They tend to buy controlling interest in lots of companies so it doesn't get them as much notice if they were to buy them outright. He said "The fact that they bought a makeup company just tells me they're in everything!" I get Hugh Jackman being involved because he had Basel cell skin cancer removed from his nose and had told everyone on his socials to wear sunscreen.

Urban Decay was my go to for years. When it started going more neutral and getting a bit lost, my mum picked it up for the consistency of having a reliable range of nudes and a good formula. Now neither of us can use their products; her because they stopped making their classic shadow colours, me because I'm sensitive to the oils in the new formula (and also, what even are they selling sometimes?). The last Urban Decay I bought was just as they were changing their formula, and was on a super steep discount at a time when I needed a "boring work brown" shade of lipstick. That my last UD product ever is a basic brown lipstick is just... sad.

Not a dermatologist or beauty chemist or anything, so I don't KNOW. But I'd go out on a limb and say it's fine because a) you're supposed to use sunscreen every day, and reapply it regularly ANYWAY, and b) because on top of all your skincare, it might be debatable how much of the vit c in makeup actually penetrates the skin. I learned, years ago, that if you use vit c, it will leave your skin extra photosensitive for about a week after your last application, so if that's correct, you'll have to use sunscreen every day because of that even if you only put on vit c products once a week. So I'm gonna guess that is why it's fine in makeup; your skin should already BE protected by SPF all day anyway.

I think that we also need companies to do their part to help the env. Like reduce the number of products or releases. Sustainable and recyclable package but also intentional in their products. Like KraveBeauty. We also need to force companies that make sustainable packaging to be rewarded so that this packaging is more accessible and cheaper thereby more popular with brands.

Honestly, I'm wondering what has larger carbon footprint - shipping individual tubes and still purchasing new product or maybe making easily recyclable component generally. I'm glad that brands are making an effort, this particular one just doesn't seem to be practical. I wish there would be more terracycle drop off points, or Sephora's and ultas had in-store incentivized recycling programs.
@NoYeahNah
@NoYeahNah 2 жыл бұрын
The sheer environmental impact of the production, freight, packaging production (I'm talking the byproducts of shipping and outer packaging), and recycling itself - mulching cardboard, melting down plastics, and washing components uses a huge amount of energy, chemical byproducts, fumes... and that's even if every customer can be arsed to send the packaging back. Will that re-used packaging reduce the world's carbon imprint when you're adding an extra shipping journey back to the company (most likely using fossil fuels)? If someone really cared about the environment, they wouldn't be creating a new company or increasing production of consumables in the first place. I agree that perfection isn't possible, but this is so far removed from making a positive difference.
@carlybeam6310
@carlybeam6310 2 жыл бұрын
@@NoYeahNah kind of why I like the new fenty lipstick idea. You keep the tube and just buy a new bullet to put in it when you run out. Minimizes the amount of packaging needed each time you need new product. Still packaging obviously for the refill but lesser, small cardboard box and the new bullet comes in a plastic sleeve. I agree though, recycling in itself can use a lot of energy to reproduce products from that material, especially when you have to ship it back. Plus, that's only if I decide I like the product and want more. Could be possible that the product stinks so you have a lot of stainless steel packaging floating around or thrown in the trash when people don't want to ship it back for a refill.

Great point! My initial thought was wouldn't it be a better effort to make the packaging easily recyclable through domestic programs?
@NoYeahNah
@NoYeahNah 2 жыл бұрын
Most recyclables in the US are sent overseas to recycling plants. (I'm not even going to get into the carbon footprint of just the freight). I know that China stopped accepting shipments a few years ago because they had no room left for the literal mountains of backlog - they can't recycle it fast enough and they don't have any more room. So even if you use recycling programs in the US, it ends up in landfill if it can't be shipped offshore.

Thoughts: About face new eyeliners - Tom Ford throws the f bomb into his product lineup often so….. fair game. Hourglass lip products - the lightest color does not show up on my lips and is hella minty. Meh… in my Sephora bag to return. Westman atelier- might try but I’m not really their target customer - I tend to prefer makeup with a little more bite to it- I have several of their items and thus far, in spite of the price, none are HG. Water based powders - Becca had one for years - hydramist something or another. I LOVED it for about a month after buying but the “wetness” that you felt initially dries out in the powder so even though the powder was one of the only powders that didn’t make my skin look older, I have never finished a single one of them - would have to buy new when the moisture dried so ended up being a waste.

Danessa Myricks suggests patting/bouncing into the skin with a dense brush to apply the blur balm powder. All actually apply moisturizing primer to the skin. Then I apply the bomb with my fingers and rub into the areas of my pores, so that the bomb can melt into the skin. Then I use a brush and apply as Danessa Myricks suggests. If I do that, my make up looks the same At the end of the day, as I did when I put on my make up. It really helps to prevent touchups.

I plan on getting the all matte hipdot girl scout palette when we get back from vacation. This is the first time in awhile they've released a collab without a pressed glitter in it and I'm excited. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that actually likes hipdot, they just don't release a lot that I actually want.

I've been upset with Urban Decay since the second Naked palette came out and haven't bought anything from the brand since back then. The first Naked palette was a novelty but by the time the second one hit the market it quickly became obvious that they were putting all their eggs in the "boring" makeup basket and leaving their original identity, and most of their long-time customers, behind. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since they sold out to a conglomerate shortly before that change started, so🤷‍♀ Also, the brand name doesn't even make sense with the new image they tried to create for themselves. It's just so weird to me. I miss the old Urban Decay a lot and I get mad every time I think about it☹

I’m too old, jaded and a skeptic to fall for these “one hit wonder” , “shock value” brands 🙄. What’s the deal with the mile-long product names?! I don’t give any credence to skincare in makeup at all. It is so diluted with the makeup ingredients it doesn’t make a dent in improving skin. Just focus on actual, dedicated skincare products.

i'd like to see an analysis, if reusable steel tubes actually cut energy consumption vs. single use plastic. steel production uses a very high amount of energy, add to that the shipping to and froe and the energy used in cleaning and refilling and i have my doubts whether it is actually worth the bother, or just green-washing. ref. to the body temperature i run at about 93,2 fahrenheit and it is noticeable (if a product is designed to get a bit softer and malleable with body heat it won't work well for me. and touch screens tend to not work well for me. especially in winter which is a pain in the neck if i'm trying to buy a train ticket at the machine on the platform or use an atm and they won't react to my touch.)

Do you think something like a thin plastic tube to insert into a mascara bottle would be better?
@siiri2052

@@coffeeandcurls2012 i honestly don't know what would be best, that's why i'd be interested to see an environmental impact study. the results can be surprising at times, so as a consumer i find it very difficult to judge what options are just marketing and which actually have a positive impact.

Glass would actually probably be the best bet (and you can already get mascara in glass in quite a few brands). Plastic can only be recycled so many times before it ends up as nanoplastics, and there’s no way to keep them out of the environment at that stage.
@siiri2052
@siiri2052 2 жыл бұрын
@@swesttttt yes, plastic always comes down to the problem, that it's not degradable. glass could be an alternative, but there you run into the problem, that glass production uses sand and a lot of energy (which is also a resource we are fast running out of) and it's so much heavier that shipping of goods uses significantly more energy. glass works well for bottles if an entire industry uses a standard shape, because then you can reduce return distances as everyone can reuse any bottle (that's how they do it with mineral water in germany. the returned bottles go to the nearest plant, not necessarily the plant of origin, which makes the system more efficient and cuts emissions) which ever way you turn it, reducing consumption itself seems to be the only viable option when it comes to sustainability.

Supergoop is good, but Korean brand Canmake Mermaid Gel, is hands down the best sunscreen I’ve ever used. The white does leave a white cast, but the clear doesn’t, is the best, and leave a beautiful glow. There is a new green to cancel red and it’s good too leaves a slight white cast but not much. I have sensitive skin and many sunblock will burn my skin, Mermaid Gel doesn’t and it makes a great primer. It’s a little pricey, for the amount you get but it’s worth it!!

My fave is Supergoop Unseen but it is nearly $40 in my area . I found a suitable dupe for half the price, Black Girl Sunscreen Make it Matte. It is also clear, no white cast 😎

I think there will always be collabs, especially now that companies have seen how well they do. Being a Stranger Things fan, I 'm glad I picked up the Hawkins High palette because it came with an insert of the random note we see in season 4 & I geeked out when that scene played. So, unlike their SIMs collab, MAC really did a good job at least tying the collection with the IP. The palette is cute, the shadows something I've already worn a few times, but that insert makes it something really collectable to me.

I purchased the Danessa Myricks Skin Blurring Balm at the recommendation of Rose from Rose and Ben. I was so disappointed as it made my skin look bad. It looked really Cakey , and I used very little. I was unable to return because the return policy states the product must be unused and unopened. If I ever purchase Danessa products again it will be from Sephora.

You may have wrong shade and too much with the Danessa balm. I am obsessed with it. I have used it as she suggested, the way i like to do base and I used as a primer and for me works best the latter two. As i need to powder my face and I love it with a sponge better.
