The girl on the phone at 05:29 is my friend and high school classmate in Chicago, Kristin…we were Class of 86. She had a blast with the movie. Kristi Swanson [Simone] was supposed to have the payphone scene but Hughes changed the filming schedule so my friend got the scene. He wrote the “my best friend’s cousin’s girlfriend” scene to make it up to Swanson.

Yes, the end credits scene from Deadpool was a direct nod to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Before production on Deadpool began, Ferris Bueller was used as an example to explain to the studio execs at Twentieth Century Fox how Wade would break the fourth wall and talk directly to the audience throughout the movie just like Ferris. This was also another John Hughes movie. Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off.... Hughes was the king of 80's teen flicks.

Great Score, Great Acting, a John Hughes classic! Super Thanks! Note the teach delivering the line "Bueller...Bueller...Bueller" is named Ben Stein, who's father Herb Stein was President Richard Nixon's chief economist. Ben has a high reputation in economic circles himself. Thanks again Jen ... this was one of my favorites!

Ben Stein began his political career under Pres. Nixon as a Speechwriter AND Lawyer. Later, as a Speechwriter for Pres. Ford. In 1976 TIME magazine went out on a limb and claimed he was very likely Deep Throat, to which Ben denies, and even questions if there was even such a singular person as Deep Throat, but probably an amalgamation of sources, speculations and made-up quotes. Ben Stein taught Law, Economics, Ethics, etc. at the University level - and is a prolific conservative legal writer/commentator, and sometimes actor.

Older cars would roll back the odometer if you drove backwards. Not anymore. My dad pulled this trick on us when we were kids, saying he could tell the exact mileage when we got home. He drove backwards part of the way to get right at his guess.

This is one of the first movies that had the now ubiquitous end credit scenes. It was also the first time The Beatles gave permission for one of their songs to be used in a movie. I was in Navy boot camp in Great Lakes when this was filmed, the honor guard in the parade scene was in my series.

Broderick basically plays this same role in another movie, but set in the Middle Ages, called Lady Hawk. It was filmed around the same time so he was of similar age and is a little sh*t getting into things like in this movie, but this time going up against wizards, knights, a corrupt bishop, etc. Not many people review it, but you might like it.

The girl who played Slone, Mia Sara, was married to Sean Connery's son, Jason Connery. And she is currently married to Brian Henson, Jim Henson's son. She mostly does bit parts in TV and movies. Her only other big role was in Legend (1985) opposite Tom Cruse.

"Bueller...Bueller...Bueller..." I hope you enjoyed this movie, Jen. It's extremely memorable and funny even if Ferris is a bit of a selfish Teflon-coated mobster (tho John Hughes didn't intend him to be seen that way!). 😂 Jen: Rooney seems like an A-hole. 😭 That he is, Ms Murray, that he is. 🤣

John Hughes was a creative genius. His body of work includes Sixteen Candles (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985), Weird Science (1985), this film, and Pretty in Pink (1986), and Some Kind of Wonderful (1987). Molly Ringwald was one of his favorite actors and starred in three of the mentioned films. For more excellent films of Matthew Broderick, you need to watch Ladyhawke (1985) and Glory (1989). Jennifer Grey starred in Red Dawn (1984) with Charlie Sheen, Patrick Swayze, and Lea Thompson prior to Ferris Bueller and did Dirty Dancing (1987) with Swayze afterwards. There was a short-lived series entitled Ferris Bueller (1990) based on the film. There was also a similar sitcom, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose (1990 - 1993) as well. That’s worth watching if you can dig it up.

Always great to watch some of your videos, Jen. Crazy fact, if no-one else here has mentioned it already. I’m sure someone will have though. Alan Ruck, who plays Cameron was nearing 30 years old when shooting this movie. He was born in 1956 and filming wrapped in November 1985. Was curious to see if you’d mention the Gordie Howe hockey jersey and you didn’t let me down! Haha. Great video and reaction.

Great reaction Jen like always, love this movie its a classic, and some fun-facts about it. All the characters who have cars , (except for Cameron's dad whos car license plate says NRVOUS) have license plates that are abbreviations of John Hughs movies. His Mom’s car has a license plate that reads “MMOM” which is a reference to 1983’s Mr. Mom which Hughes wrote. His Dad’s car has a license plate that reads “VCTN” which is a reference again to 1983’s Vacation. His sister’s car has a license plate that reads “TBC” which is a reference to 1985’s The Breakfast Club. Lastly, Principal Rooney’s car has a license plate that reads “4FBDO” which translates to “For Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. As you may have detected by the soundtrack, John Hughes was really into new wave music back then. All the posters in Ferris' and Cameron's rooms were his personal collection. Cameron only has U2 Boy, but Ferris has Bryan Ferry, Simple Minds, Killing Joke, Blancmange, The Damned, Charlie Sexton, Jah Wobble/Holger Czukay/The Edge, Flesh For Lulu, Cabaret Voltaire, The Rave Ups. There is actually a band Save Ferris named of course, after the charity theme in this film. You can see them make an appearance in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. Also not sure it's been mentioned, but a Fun Fact about this movie is that the actors who played Ferris' parents met during the making of that movie and ended up getting married in real life. My interpretation in the end when the sister rushed home to catch Ferris before he could get home so he would get in trouble. Then she overheard the principal telling Ferris that he would have to spend another year in high school. Another year with the two of them at the same school was the LAST thing she wanted, so she covered for him instead. If she wanted to cover for Ferris as a result of her chat with Charlie Sheen, she would have driven slowly to ensure he got home first after she saw him in the street. Keep up the good work.

That was fun! Glad you got the references and the reverse reference from Deadpool. The girl at 4:59 reminded me of another 80’s teen flick that came out the next year, 3 O’clock High. She looks like the exact same character. It has Richard Tyson who played the bad guy Crisp in Kindergarten Cop and Casey Siemaszko who played the 3D glasses guy in Biff’s entourage in BTTF 1&2. It’s got some unique directing and style to it and a fun example of the 80’s teen movie.

Loved your reaction, Jen. In the 80's this was THE movie when we were growing up. Quotable lines all over this movie. Your reaction was spot on perfect. The scene at the end when Ferris is running to get home through all those back yards was duplicated in homage in Spiderman Homecoming. Again loved, loved, loved your reaction.
