The problem nowadays is people dont actually understand what "black face" really is. Ive seen a similar thing happen to a cosplayer. She tanned her skin because she wanted to look more like a character that had tanner skin, so she was trying to be accurate. But people immediately started attacking her, claiming "this is blackface! You should be ashamed!" To the point where she had to take her picture down and i havent seen her post much of her cosplays anymore. (Also, shocker, the cosplayer's attackers were white). Jenna tanned her skin because she was just making herself nikki minaj, she wasnt making fun of other black people, she was only joking about nikki minaj. The literal definition of black face is when you paint your skin brown or black and start acting on what a "black person would act like" in a negative fashion, like making them idiots, and it was used in theater several decades ago, because in those times, black people werent allowed to be in theater. Jenna wasnt tanning her skin to make fun of black people, she was only making fun of nikki minaj, she was playing a character. She wasnt stating "all black people are like this." She wasnt hurting anyone. Cancel culture is becoming the new communisim, people i know who grew up in commy countries see it and say the same thing, it will be like ww2 times all over again.

I'm not sure which videos those offended are particularly upset about; What I DO know is that individuals whose channels consist mainly of comedic content often poke fun at themselves as well as impersonate others, many times engaging in exaggerated stereotypes/exaggerated versions of whom they are trying to portray. The internet need's to grow up. Like many of us and popular creators we have grown up and I believe the internet needs to do so as well. I have never seen such a sincere and heartwarming apology. She has been on this platform for many years and I think that as she and her content has grown up we need to judge her on that. Were not going to judge a cake on it's looks it's the flavour we are more interested in. People need to "taste" the new flavour she has brought and although the old flavour may be good you have to try other things along the way. The fact of the matter is that she is getting backlash for being herself and although that may be racist nowadays we all would have thought that was funny because that's what the internet was like TEN years ago. It's like memes or vines they could have been so hilarious back then but now there not and people have a new view or "taste" they can be portrayed as many things given a different perspective I don't particularly agree with the content made but I understand that it was entertainment and will look back and think, wow that was not funny. Well, context matters. In history, there's never been "white face." It's not nearly as offensive as black face bc it doesn't have any historical context. Black face however does. Sometimes it's not about technical equality but synonymous.

No, you listening to her music doesn’t make you racist. That’s supporting a black artist. However, black face is the act of painting your skin color as to look a different tone than you are, especially to look as if one is black. Such an act has a very prickly past. Many people would paint their faces and exaggerate black characteristics as a way to poke fun and humiliate those of African decent. You can play or impersonate someone who is black, but it’s rarely okay to do something that has been such a trademark way of demeaning an entire race.

I imagine how terrible a real black face was, but it was meant to demean black people as a race, and Jenna was just impersonating one particular celebrity who was extremely popular back then. I don't diminish a harm of a real black face in any way, but I don't think Jenna did one

And in all reality, it’s not actually my place to say whether it is or it isn’t black face, for I am not a person of color. Despite what she did in the past, I am also of the opinion that shoving her face into the dirt for something she has clearly moved on from. So really, whether it was blackface or not, she still shouldn’t have been treated like this, and I believe we can agree on that, no?

I’m gonna say this now and when I say this y’all better listen because I’m not gonna repeat myself Jenna marbles used to work at a tanning salon she used to tan pretty often and when she did a normal made her skin look pretty dark so putting on a bright pink wig with tan skin it’s like putting on weight while having a slight tan it makes your tan look darker as soon as she took off the wig her tan did not look as dark as it was with the wig on it wasn’t her intent to do the black face she was just doing an impression i’m not saying that what she did was right I’m just saying that maybe you should back charge yourself and don’t twist her words cancel culture is disgusting✌️
