Well look at it like this. If you don't have a home right now when you do get one never say you can't do it. Learn how to do this stuff. It's actually fun. In the last year I've replaced my soffits and facia installed gutters repaired a slider window built two bedrooms and one bathroom. Next year is redo the family room including the drywall and flooring the seconnd bathroom and kitchen. All full guy and rebuild. It's fun and rewarding. And when you do it yourself you save like 70% vs having a pro do it. Have faith in yourself. You can do more than you know.

That fun fact is fun, Concrete gets hot because the process of it curing, where water reacts with cement, is an exothermic reaction, meaning it releases heat as the chemical reaction occurs; this heat is often referred to as the "heat of hydration". It can get hot enough to give 3rd degree burns.
@spamlessaccount14 сағат бұрын
And it doesn't "dry" - it cures. The water's all (OK mostly) still in there.

@@spamlessaccount my father taught me to water it the day after so it would cure better and crack less... and we would also use sand in the mix.
@douglascaskey730213 сағат бұрын
@@spamlessaccount No. The water does not stay in concrete. It mostlty evaporates as it cures. The concrete will basically reach an equlibrium with the moisture content of the surrounding environment.
@douglascaskey730212 сағат бұрын
@@miragaiamaia8966 Concrete almost always has sand in the mix. Basic formula for concrete is cement, aggregate, sand, and water. A common ratio of 1 part cement, 2 parts sand, and 3 parts aggregate is a good starting point for most projects. The size and variation of the aggregate will usually determine the concrete strength... as well as water content. A drier mix produces stronger concrete, but is harder to work with... such as when pumping, whereas too much water will weaken the mix. In cases where the strength is needed as well as workability, add mixtures may be added to make the concrete more fluid without adding more water. And yes... the paradox with concrete is once it's started to cure and water is evaportating, continued exposure to water is neccessary to continue the "hydration" of the cement particles. Especially in something like thin driveways and sidewalks where the water evaporates more quickly.

If you need to make your own concrete again, you can use scrap plywood as a makeshift trough to direct it where you want it to go, like what Jenna was doing with her shovel, but bigger and no one has to just stand there holding it. We usually nail a couple pieces of scrap 2x in a rough v shape (without the point, obviously) to help direct things a little more. And then just sort of prop the high end of the plywood against the mixer’s supports so the wood is at an angle down towards the target. Same concept as what you rigged up on the roof to direct materials to the bin.

Concrete doesn’t 'dry', per se, it chemically hardens. Pouring concrete in wet/humid conditions is not often a barrier, in fact depending on the mix, you may need to wet the concrete as it hardens. 'Curing' continues for a long time, as the chemical reaction continues. The heat is evidence of the chemical work underway. Next time, make sure you're cognizant of the wind direction when inhaling the dry mix. You don't need the moisture in your airways reacting internally. :-)

Concrete does both. It's losing water to evaporation - i.e. drying after curing, and the chemical reaction of water hydrating the cement particles is curing. Rain won't stop it from curing, but it can certainly affect the strength and damage the surface.

About JACK…we have a Boston Terrier that does not chew his food properly so kibble would sometimes just sit in his tummy and swell, and eventually throw it up or choke. We switched to homemade food (rice, lean protein ground, mushed cooked veg/fruit) which he loves; doesn’t need to chew it as much, problem solved. We do add a bit of kibble so he has a bit of crunch occasionally.

A few methods to get your dog to eat extra slowly... 1. A Kong ball or something of the like. Basically a hallow ball with a hole in it that's only big enough for a couple kibbles to come through at once. The dog has to work for their meal and it takes much longer. There are also puzzle bowls that work similarly. 2. Throw a few kibbles on the floor and have your dog 'search' for the food. You can put more down when they find the first batch. Or, just throw it all down spread over a large space. This still takes longer for them to finish. You can also get creative and hide small handfuls around the house (or whatever space you're using) and have your dog search that way. This method is my dogs favorite! He loves it when I hide his food for him. 3. Training sessions with kibbles instead of treats. This is a great method for puppies who need basic training, but you can do it with any dog. You simply practice commands or learn new ones with your dog and use the kibbles as treats for the whole meal. This is another method my dog absolutely loves, I've been doing it with him since he was a puppy. It's fun and stimulating for them and it slows their eating significantly since you are controlling how much they get at once. The last two methods also are great for bonding ♡ I hope this helps!

my doggo also eats like she's dying of hunger, what seems to help her is I let her eat alone in her crate or in a "safe" space when she was really bad and choking on food, I'd give her food by hand. (she respects that "If I hold her food, it's mine until I let her eat it") doubt that every dog is the same, have you tried adding popped rice? that's also something that helped my dog slow down, the puff/popped rice gets stuck on her nose/slowfeeder/surrounding while a fun lil snack. a sniff mat/snuffle mat also can work! they let the dog actively search for food & treats. so it's fun & not as easy!

Yes concrete will cure under water, but the strength will be affected. As a civil engineer I would not want the strength of a footing / pier to loose strength. Especially given the haphazzrd way they already mixed the batches of concrete. Last words you ever want to hear mixing concrete.. "Ah - it looks too watery".

I had a dog that was like that, we fixed it by putting a rounded stone into the middle of the dog feed bowl. That way he will have to eat slower around the edges. This really does work 👍.

Sounds like a good way to get a stone in a dogs stomach

Concrete doesn't dry, it cures. Rain won't be any more than an inconvenience. I learned this in my teens helping a relative pour concrete into a flowing river to reinforce a bank.

0:31 I live in a small US town with a population of 2,000 people and I pull on anything that I use my credit or debit card with before I pay to make sure there isn't a skimmer on it.

Goodness at the rain y'all have endured. Hope the sunshine comes out when you need it to get everything dried up soon. Everything looks so good. I believe the trip to NY was a very worthy respite for you both. The grind has been real, you needed to get away and recharge. In a few days we will bring in 2025. I am amazed every time I look back at all you have done leading up to this point.

Hand feed jack I used to but my dog has slowed down now, he has a dish with compartments all the time. My daughters dog takes a biscuit at a time from his bowl in the kitchen, then walks to the lounge to eat it

Sometime, it would be fun to have a tour through the house pointing out any original elements that are left.

when you put the cladding on the porch, you could use trim pieces to mimic the rafter pattern, would look really good and would probably be in keeping with the style of the house.

For fast eaters, puzzle bowls help a lot. They have to slow down to lick the food from around the corners of the maze of the bowl.
