Since you are going to make this again when you find your dream quilt: Instead of binding all the edges with bias tape before you sewed the pieces together, I would sew the seams first and then bind them with the bias tape. It uses half as much bias tape since it's binding 2 layers at once, and also takes half as much time. Plus the inside will be cleaner with just one bound edge per seam instead of two.
@kyecarlin70892 жыл бұрын
I was wondering by why she did this unless she left a slit down the side
@crashofthemoons2 жыл бұрын
Yes that and I wouldn’t fold the belt in half, I would have just trimmed it width wise and put bias tape all around 👍🏻
@phyllishigley61612 жыл бұрын
This method would also add less bulk.
@lestranged2 жыл бұрын
@@phyllishigley6161 right, especially in the arm pit where 4 corners come together, that seam has to be super bulky

Didn't know I needed one of these in my life until now....totally reminds me of a vintage housecoat! Cozy and chic! I wonder if making one out of a puffy down comforter would be too difficult, but that would be SOOO warm.

i think you would be able to! skims has a robe that’s literally a comforter and it looks so so so cute and everyone says it’s cozy af

Jenna, Great job and it looks so cozy!!! May I suggest that the next time you make your dream quilt coat, that you use only one thickness of the quilt for the belt and use the same bias tape to bind all the edges of the belt? It will match the rest of the edges of the coat (Where you see the bias tape), and I think it might make it look less like a bathrobe tie and more like a coat belt! Just a suggestion!
@lestranged3 жыл бұрын
Great idea. The fabric is so thick it does not need to be 2 layers. And definitely not right sides together and trying to turn it right side out- that is just asking for pain. She's going to make a second one when she finds the perfect quilt so she can make small changes like this to make the second one even better.
@denasewell2 ай бұрын
There is a sewing maching foot that feeds the bias tape through that binds around the fabric that makes a project like this easier ...also you might consider sewing everything together then binding the seams it is a lot less work and less bias tape. Great project! You are always informative as well as entertaining!

You tube brought up this video for me. This jacket qualifies as a winter coat in Houston Texas for milder days. I saw one at Dillard's but I never saw anyone wear one. Anyway, I found a quilt and revisit working with quilted fabric. It was popular in Illinois when I lived there back in the late 70d.

I’m always astonished when sewers don’t use pins to pin the pattern OR measure to the grain. I love that you used the bias tape on all the raw edges. Such a nice finish. Looks fantastic. I would have made bias tape from the scraps of the leftovers for the pockets, but that would have been very fiddly. I stumbled onto this channel looking for inspiration as I bought ten new quilted pillowcases at a thrift store. The first thing I thought was JACKET! Now I’m thinking COAT….thank you for all the ideas 😊

I think you should take that star pillow case and make a cropped jacket with it and pattern match with other quilts for the sleeves and collar.
@jamesmiller661111 ай бұрын
a suggestion : to keep the bulk out of the front and a cheat for the belt use snaps ! place the snaps on the side that goes in and then a second row on the opposite side then either sew the belt to the back or add a snap to keep the belt in place. if you loose the belt......uh oh....

@pjcullinane20113 жыл бұрын
Also, if you want to change it up a bit, next time you could make the jacket/coat with just enough overlap in the front to put in button holes-making it less bulky with less overlap. You can still use a belt, but the coat would be a little trimmer-looking, and require less material as well..less of a wraparound by making it more tailored, with less bunching in the front!ll

okay but hear me out the best perk of being a wheelchair user is a literally can just "walk" around with a blanket to keep warm all winter. might not recommend the wheelchair JUST for the ability to wear a blanket around but it is a perk....

I think you need to make a quilt. It's really not that hard to piece and I think you could find an easy free pattern for the star you want. Upcycle an old fleece blanket as the batting/backing and it would be so nice and cozy as a coat, and just how you want it to look! You could even just quilt pieces to size since you have the pattern- even easier!!
