A word on the fuel pump + carbs situation: If the cbr's system is similar to my old 98' zx9r, the pump will only do anything when it senses the float bowls are getting low. It signifies this by clicking a few times, so if this happens be aware it may still be functioning as intended. This threw me off once.

Pull the seat. Normally pull the tank next, but I think this bike pulling the side fairings is a good idea too. Pull the air box. Pull the carbs and clean. Replace fuel lines and filters. Check spark while you are in there. Fresh gas. Turn key. Start. Set idle mixture and rpm. Balance carbs. Short video. For longer video, jet carbs if needed and fine tune.

the CBR 600 is a fun, super smooth machine & sporty bike to enjoy. it’s just enough of the other, without being an organ-donercycle. the only issue with a CBR 600 is the same issue as a Harley-D 883 Hugger & that’s what you have to hear & endure: “that’s a good starter bike.” your response is your choice. If I am not mistaken that looks like an F3 Model. The reason they use a Fuel Pump is due to the RPM's they can achieve. At 14000 RPMS it sucks the fuel bowls dry so the fuel pump helps feed them.

I think that before I took the carburetors off I'd check for spark. If there's spark I'd squirt a bit of fuel into the cylinders and see if it will fire.

Yeah I really thought he would dribble a little fuel into the carbs from that IV. It would have sprung to life. But then we would all know and the fun of speculating would be gone. love the daily vids! Carb sync is fairly easy on quad carb bikes, start with syncing #1/2 cylinder vacuum (adjust screw between #1/2 carbs) next is #3/4 cylinder (screw between respective carbs), then sync 1/2 & 3/4 pairs together with the screw between #2 & 3 carb. I prefer analog vacuum gauge sync tools over mercury, the digital gauges are nice just a lil pricey.🤙

Jake, please get yourself some T-handle wrenches. Big time saver.
@gymshoe88627 күн бұрын
When its running good it is a rocketship--you won't believe the effortless speed! Make sure the kill switch is on RUN. You can spray out the tank with a pressure washer unless its full of rust. If its just crud that got in there spray it out. Look at all the jets in carbs. If you have sparks it'll light right up. Don't get killed on it!
@arichy42017 күн бұрын
I’m not sure if anyone commented about it yet but around the 7:58 mark it seems as there’s a missing bolt underneath the fuel cap cover and with one of those Allen bolts missing, it looks like it could be a funnel for water especially being on the lower side when the bike is on the kickstand. It might also be a water drain on purpose so the area where the cap is doesent fill with water.
@edwardchamberlain78586 күн бұрын
Wow good eye. That Allen bolt has been missing for a while.The thread was stripped and it wouldn't tighten up. I actually had it laying around for quite some time but it finally disappeared. The bike is garaged, but good point. I will find a replacement for sure.
@heiner717 күн бұрын
I think it is related to ignition. With 4 carbs in play, I would expect at least some sign of life. I may have started out with removing one of the spark plugs and check for spark.
@edwardchamberlain78587 күн бұрын
Wrong. It ran but then got wonky and wouldn't cruise. Accelerate, oh yeah, cruise, it was stumbling. Then the next time I rode it, it was even worse. When one cylinder dropped out, I'm sure due to fuel starvation, I parked it. I'm putting clues out here. Keep the speculation alive.

Back in the day of carburated street bikes as a motorcycle technician, every spring,that's all I did was carburetor cleans! Damn,if people would just run ethanol free fuel,or at the least,drain there carbs before storing the bikes! Had 3 lifts in my bay,1 for major repair,1 for simple services, and 1 for carburetor cleansing! Also,on a bike that old,always pull the plug wire boots and check there is no corrosion at the connection.if there is,clip off about a quarter inch,and reinstall the plug boot!
@edwardchamberlain78586 күн бұрын
It was my daily driver. About 1k per week. When I started parking it more than riding it, I always shut the fuel off and let it drain the bowls. But the fuel in the tank got stale and funky, and I'm not sure if that's rust in there too. The bike started stumbling when cruising but acceleration was okay. Then when it dropped a cylinder due to fuel starvation, I parked it. Clogged jets, and maybe junk in the pump too. Too bad it's not spring yet.
@darrinwoodward146 күн бұрын
@edwardchamberlain7858 best thing you can do after you get everything cleaned,is run ethanol free gas.most co-ops have it and marinas.its the ethanol in modern pump fuel that makes it go bad so fast.ethanol free has a 6 year shelf life.

@edwardchamberlain78587 күн бұрын
Yup for sure. When he pulls the air box off and dribbles a little gas in those carbs it WILL spring to life. And OMG it sounds so good when it's running right.
@AndrewWilsonOz7 күн бұрын
With the kick stand side thing, that being said about only lifting it on the kickstand side, when moving the bike, its better to be on the opposite side to the kickstand. Reason being, if you are moving it, and the bike gets too heavy, or you suddenly need to put it down, or if it starts to tip over, if your opposite the kickstand, it can only fall down to the kickstand side with your weight pushing against the bike. If your are moving the bike, on the kickstand side, and your weight is pushing/leaning against the bike, and you over lean, then the bike is going down. If you do the same thing, from the other side, the bike will fall onto the kickstand, not the ground.

Might have done it off camera but I always check the oil before cranking, often times I will just change it. I've had several bikes over the last year that I've bought where the entire crankcase is filled with gas. I have had two where there was no oil at all in them.
