One worthwhile investment for the totally-not-a-carb-channel would be an ultrasonic cleaner, they can make a dirty carb shine again, still needs taking apart to make sure all the schmoo is released, but the lack of noxious fumes from spraying stuff about is a real benefit to the lungs... :)

I just did a bank of carbs from my Honda Nighthawk CB700 last week and several of the jets were completely clogged including two of the choke jets. Two of the mains were the worst I've ever seen, but the goo just wiped off. All four carbs were taken apart and cleaned using an ultrasonic cleaner, yet despite 30 min and using Simple Green, two of the choke jets were still completely clogged. I was using the smallest wire on a welding tip cleaner but that was just bending until I had the bright idea of holding about 1/2" of it with needle nose pliers and "pounding" it into the choke jet hole. That process broke through the two clogged holes after a minute of work, and because the wire was slightly smaller than the hole, it wasn't causing any damage to the hole. I blew everything out, put it all back together and the bike runs fantastically!

@4:30 a heat gun to the posts or bath in an ultrasonic cleaner (with a heated solution) and using an automatic center punch is the best thing I've found for stuck float pins. Puts all the force/pressure onto the pin that way, I've never broken a float pins post with that method and works like a charm. 🤙

I’m personally loving seeing the resurrection of the CBR. What a beautiful little bike. Always wanted one, but I think my time is past appropriate for one now. Thank you for your insight on cleaning carbs! I do a lot of small engine repairs and cleaning carbs is the biggest thing with those. I will use your methods in addition to my own to ensure cleanliness. As to the philosophical topic tonight, I don’t get jealous of dead people per se, but at the thought of being dead. It is what all of us have in common and we each have our own viewpoint of what happens at that point. I share some of Camera Girl’s views on reincarnation to an extent and appreciate her view on the topic. The afterlife is probably one of my favorite topics outside of mechanical things to discuss, mostly because everyone has a different viewpoint on the topic and it is interesting to hear others’ thoughts on the topic.

Those choke tubes that you cleaned out are very easy to overlook. I've watched several people post videos on cleaning carbs and they don't mention them at all! Also- for the carb boots, I've found out over the years a good trick is to apply a thin coat of Petroleum Jelly (insert joke here) on the inside lips of the boots before reinstalling.

I know you said if you're an expert don't comment lol.... But I've got to give you a piece of advice. Now that you know how difficult it is to get those carburetors off and back on again the last thing you want to do is miss anything whatsoever when you're rebuilding them. The last thing you want is to have to pull them off again because something was missed. I'm a retired Master Honda Suzuki Kawasaki and Yamaha mechanic and shop owner I can't count the times I've had carburetors off of a 4-cylinder bike. And that CBR 600 I've done more times than any other bike because it was my track bike for many years. Go slow be thorough and don't think that something's good that you didn't touch with your own hands and verify that it's good. Always replace all fuel delivery o-rings and float bowl o-rings. Once you pull them apart like that and then put it back together they will leak 99% of the time.

Try boiling those intake manifolds in water before putting them on, works much better then a heat gun IMO. Old School way of making them soft again. Love the Videos , keep it up !

I've found that there's so much corn based crud in carbs sometimes petrolatum based cleaners and solvents don't always break it down. I have had good luck with super hot water with some peroxide in it helps soften it up. Sometimes alternate back and forth with the regular cleaners. Like this guy says taking your time and not to heavy handed. A few years ago I got my old gsxr running after sitting for 19yrs and ended up not even needing the float bowl o-rings I had bought for it. Must have bought gas at the magic place because only the left side carb had like a gear oil like goop in it from being the lowest one. The only thing I struggled with was it kept carbon fouling a plug until I banged it on the limiter couple times. I thought it was replugging a pilot jet so I kept taking it apart and recleaning the carbs.

A little trick for cleaning pilot jets on my parts is, keep in mind (being cautious of the material they’re made of) a blow torch till they glow cherry and a bowl full of carb/break parts cleaner. Just a suggestion I’ve found has made my lie easier, in the past.
