She's such a queen and somehow every time she sings it looks like she's becoming one with the melody and the words, great take on this performance too :)

Thank you for another great video! Whenever I see JHud perform I always think about what Barbra Streisand said about approaching a song. She said that she finds the character and acts the song, instead of just singing it. Both JHud and La Streisand act/sing with such clarity of purpose and perspective, it's really enthralling to watch! I'd love to see you react to some Barbra Streisand moments, especially My Man from "Funny Girl." ☺️

Jennifer Hudson makes love with her voice because she understands tunes and the feelings of words. She is a singing story teller. Give her the encyclopedia and she'll have a tune for each word. Whitney, Michael, Patti, Gladys, Ms Franklin, Ms Ross, Bob Marley, Beres Hammond, and countless others past and present are tailored from the same material. Great talent. Bravo JHud.

Yay...it's Thursday...a day I always look forward to. What an artist Jennifer Hudson is! This piece, for me, is contemplative, reflective and she delivers in her vocals and when she is not singing. Because West Side Story is musically difficult and operatic in scale, the vibrato is essential...at least for me. The only criticism I have is that I would have preferred that Jennifer not belt so early one in this solo. Too much too soon. I felt she should have remained strictly in her head voice and save the dramatic chest voice at the end as she did. Overall, well done. Marc, you know what I am going to request...YOU!

This version feels heavily influenced by Aretha Franklin’s version from the anniversary tribute recording from about 20 years ago. Would you consider a compare and contrast?

I love West Side Story and I love Jennifer, but I prefer the more intimate version of the song... It hits harder than this very stylised version for me. Can't fault her voice but I just don't love version.

Thank you for such a thoughtful critique. These days everyone takes things to far with either over the top praise for everything and if you disagree you must be a hater. Do not get me. started on the people who have to tear down to lift up.

I'm just too attached to how the song is originally sung to actually enjoy this. she's awesome and there's nothing wrong in this.. except the vibe
@bartwatts19213 жыл бұрын
Music is meant to evolve and endure. Interpretation of music is what keeps it alive and fresh. Open your mind to new original interpretations. I feel Bernstein would love this.
@pradopiano3 жыл бұрын
not sure on the meaning of evolve here, is the song that old and dated? I enjoy different versions.. i just didn't get a good vibe from some particular things she did in this video. i don't like "look how high i can scream this note just for the sake of it". I would like to hear her sing "a boy like that" though..

JHud's "In your face" type of singing gets annoying at times.
