@Michelala7 ай бұрын
I don’t condone what she did in anyway. It was absolutely wrong and there were and are resources available in Markham and Toronto that could have helped her. But Jennifer was abused her entire life. Her parents, particularly her father gave her few choices and freedoms even after she was a legal adult. Jennifer was controlled her entire life, anything less than perfect was a failure. That’s a lot of pressure to put on a child and one who grows up that way is at big risk of having psychological problems. She couldn’t even go to her parents for help when she was failing a class she never even wanted to take and didn’t need because she would face her father’s anger. She told one lie to avoid his anger and it snowballed. Mix that in with an unhealthy relationship with the wrong kind of people, the threat of losing everything and everyone she cared about and the crushing weight of being the family disappointment and her though process becomes a little clearer. So yeah, she could have walked out the door, but she didn’t know where the door was and where to go after.

Unpopular Opinion. Her parents made her a monster and did not even know it. Oh no, don't get me wrong, Jennifer definitely is responsible for her crime and must be put to jail. But her parents definitely could have prevented her from going down this path by not treating their children like prized race horses. The problem with Tiger parents is that instead of treating their Children like human beings that need love and nurturing, they wanna turn them into trophies. They want them to achieve what they themselves could never have in their own youth. When they push them to succeed, its not because they want their Children to have a better life. Its because they need something to be proud of for themselves. LIke, because my daughter is smart, it means I am actually smart. Living like this can make a child very resentful, very traumatized, and will find ways to rebel for some freedom. I know some you are gonna say "But why did she not run away?". Well the problem with this kind of abuse is that the prison is really in her head. All her life, she was conditioned to always seek validation from her parents.

The Canadian penal system is extremely strict about media access and interviews for prisoners. There are so many hoops to jump though that it’s not worth the effort. The request needs to be approved by the parole board, it can’t disrupt the normal operation of the facility, and the prisoner has to meet the prisons behaviour standards and have no history of glorifying their crime. Even if they do get the interview, prisoners have super strict limits on what they can discuss. It’s actually rare here for a high profile offender to speak to the media at all, even after they are released.
