I just received a Dapol O gauge Salt wagon and I like it very much. I don't have any experience with Lionheart but they do look very nice as well. Thanks for the review Jenny.

North Wales had slate wagons, and most of our freight was narrow gauge. There was only a few coal mines in North Wales.

Welsh yay. Being a Walsh my ancestors came from Wales to Ireland. I'm looking for OO coal wagons with Welsh markings.

I would suggest checking out some of the special commissions by model shops in Wales. Bachmann has done a few in the past.

the open cast at the top of the valley above me by the Onllwyn wash plant is still sending coal out twice a week

When I lived in Ystradgynlais I remember the line going further past the opencast. One of my early memories was a class 03/04 type loco trundling around that line.

@@JenniferEKirk Living in Ystradgynlais you would have known Cwm Twrch? My Mothers family were from there. Two of her brothers worked in that colliery ( long gone, of course )

@@darkdesire54 Yes, I knew the area. I was only young at the time though.

Wow. Here in New Jersey USA and Pennsylvania Anthracite Coal was king till 50's

Interesting - I didn’t know Anthracite was found there too.

Hi Jenny, from beautiful East Texas. Enjoyed the review and the history. Speaking of Anthracite coal, it is present in the US as well. The Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad was known as “The Anthracite Road” and their imaginary mascot was Phoebe Snow, a young woman dressed all in white, who could ride the trains and never get her clothing soiled, because the anthracite coal burned so clean.
