My three Engineering Department coaches arrived this morning. Absolutely brilliant! Quality is excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending them. Thank you Jenny for all your KZbin videos which helped me to make the decision to by all three.

Good explanation, good project. Amazing detail, including door stop bumpers and locks. In the 1920s, as the Southern Railway extended its suburban electrification, coaches like these were joined, mounted on bogie underframes, and formed into 3 car EMUs. These units were then strengthened with an additional Bulleid design modern all-steel vehicle, creating the 4-SUB type which were the mainstay of the Southern electric suburban services until the mid-1950s. The Bulleid vehicles were then taken out and used in the replacement class 415 (4-EPB) units and lasted into the 1990s. So they might be hacked to make the type of electric trains that were a feature of London suburban services in the 1950s, with pointy noses and opal panels for the route indicators.

They are going to be a great seller and I hope Hattons will keep producing these for a long period of time so that we do not get those people on ebay trying to make a quick buck or two. Like they are with Hornby's Limited Editions. Martin. (Thailand)

I asked Hattons about that via Facebook. Somebody replied (not from Hattons?) who seemed to think they'd be available, but not necessarily for ever or all the time. If you particularly want something, I'd put in my pre-order now if I were you (I've ordered 6 in two different liveries and am wondering if I ought to flog some of my premium bonds to buy 3 more in a different livery. (Premium Bonds? I've won £50 over the last 30 years, so what's the point?). .

The coaches with just vents on the roof are electric lighting; the other two sorts are gas and oil. Oil will be the 'perforated' chimney types.

I have had a few of these four wheel coaches as kits from Ratio for some years now but haven't had the time to build and paint them. Now I am close to retirement, these beautiful pre-assembled models come along. Typical. They are gorgeous but I hope that Hattons will also consider producing other pre grouping coaches on bogie assemblies since there were some beautiful examples built in Edwardian and Victorian times. Just think. A complete Edwardian or Victorian stocked layout. They would be so full of character. A damned good review of these lovely models. Thank you. Like you, I am looking forward to seeing the fully liveried versions in the shops especially since I am a great fan of the Great Western Railway which had some absolutely gorgeous liveries over the years.

Hi, Jenny. Like the video and the coaches brilliant. just a point on the roofs. the coaches with the pipework on the roof are gas lit. Pots are oil lit, and ventilators only are electric lit. The battery boxes are visible on the underframes. keep up the good work!

great review, exquisite coaches. must admit I'm a little surprised at your enthusiasm regarding the 6 wheel suspension: that exact same arrangement has been in constant model mass production for about the last 50 years and yes, it's trouble free, and the axle bearing spring assembly has barely noticeable swing, and what there is tends to be covered by the running boards.

As someone who rode in old coaches the lighting was incredibly dim and one would struggle to read. When it was going slow or stopped it was battery only and even dimmer. We would hardly recognize it as lighting today.

Why does the carriage light flicker on the way round?
@treinenliefde3 жыл бұрын
Hello, I was watching this video again and I figured it wouldnt hurt to reply even after a couple of months. The flickering lights are a indication of bad power pickups. The lights need a constant supply of power meaning that if the pickups arent good power doesnt flow through the lights.

it's very easy (and I'm very guilty of it) to say "oh i wish they made X!" and never plan on buying it if they do. but i can say without reservation that if they include the blue/grey generator van in a future batch of departmental liveries i will 100% be slamming down the £30-ish for that.
