I've listened to several singers singing this song and I love Austin's version the best. I think it has something to do with pace, pauses, etc. He seems to be taking his time and his reverence for the song shines through, not just hurrying through it waiting for the standing ovation. Also the casual setting with just the pianist and Austin dressed up a bit gives the performance a recital sort of feel. And his gestures give the song a prayerful tone. I feel he means what he's singing, every beautiful word.

He is incredible as he always is! The way he sings words makes you lean in and wait for more! Love him so much. Love Home Free and Austin is such so darn talented how he can sing full-on country twang (which he has of course) and then the training it took for him to sing without it. His "wailing" in their songs, just all of it's wonderful. For another take on his great emotional singing watch Tears in Heaven. Wow! Take care.

In fact the deciding factor in asking Austin to join them, according to Rob Lunquist, was his enthusiasm. They'd had a few crew changes and needed someone who really wanted to do it. In fact he turned out to be far more! When he joined HF, he'd had enough of cruise ships and was about to hit New York to get into theatre. I'm sure you agree that it would be a sad day if Austin left HF, but this and other pieces should be a calling card to a bigger future.

Thank you so much Jennifer! I appreciate your reaction! I love your explanations and you have an Amazing voice! I Love Austin's voice, it's so beautiful and I love the connection he has with the music and the listener. He feels the lyrics within himself so genuinely and pour's out his soul, then lay's it directly in front of us delivering it straight into our heart! He fills me with emotion every single time he preforms. I'm not sure if you know but Austin was born and raised in South Georgia and the little bit of twang is because of his natural southern accent. When he was in classical theater he worked really hard on losing his accent. However when he joined Home Free the management told him it would be fine to use his accent since they were predominantly a country group. So he fell back into it. Listen to his regular talking voice! He is very country and dial's it down pretty well when he need's to but because he talks with it all the time it probably requires much more work to lose and control it. I'm also from South Georgia and was born and raised just a few minutes from Austin's hometown (I still live in S.Ga ) so yeah, the twang is VERY heavy here. I love hearing him talk! Do you know what would be wonderful? An Austin and Jennifer collaboration! Austin has just dropped another release on Thursday I think it was. May I please request your reaction to it? It's entitled - " I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO LOVE YOU ANYMORE " Also please react to our favorite Basso Profundo Tim Foust! You just might be surprised with those two! I can't hardly wait to see your face when you hear them! " WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW/STAY " & " COME GO WITH ME " Have a great weekend!❤️🍟

Jennifer, I found your analysis enlightening and spot on. It is clear that Austin has taken the time to craft nearly every note into a performance unto itself. Each attack, sustain, and release have clearly been carefully considered and masterfully executed. For me, this results in a profoundly moving experience. Like many people, I like to sing along with Austin when I am listening alone in the privacy of my home. I do this despite having neither the vocal cords or the training to faithfully mimic him. The thing that causes me to stumble more than anything else, however, is the overwhelming emotions this song and performance inspire. It quite simply guts me. I have listened to several other performances of this song by other performers. I found them well done and enjoyable. None of them, however, strike me to the core like Austin's performance. Austin makes it clear, this is a man baring his soul to God in a desperate plea to save the life of another. It is amazing to me that Austin sings the same words and sings, more or less, the same notes as others, yet his performance is so very different. Austin comments after the performance that they had been working on this song a long time. IMO, it was time very well spent.

Thank you! Loved your analysis. Austin emotes so much emotion through his voice that I couldn't listen to this in its entirety to begin with. It just moved me so much into my own emotions, Austin and Home Free has that quality, that it was unbearable. One reactor said he felt as if he actually was in the middle of the story, for the very reason. Austin does extensive breath work, outside of his normal voice practice, every morning, and he also meditates at least once, but often twice, a day. He works on the connection with his breath, voice as well as heart and soul with dedication daily. It shows, it's felt, and it's very much appreciated. Oh, and I saw someone mentioning interviewing Austin. If that's something you want to look into just reach out to him through his website and they'll fill you in on the possibility. He loves talking and he's super easy and fun to talk to. Thanks for the reaction! 🥰🙏

Home Free does this song as part of their concerts, and Austin absolutely belts this out. I don't know if it's because of the difference between performing for a live audience as compared to a studio setting, but there is a distinct difference in how he presents the song. I would highly suggest that you also listen to his concert version of this song, it is so powerful.

I don't think it's been part of their shows for years. The real difference is that his voice has matured so much that he can make the intelligent choices that Jennifer talks about. In one version he had a cold and as a result the song was a bit 'pitchy.'

Have you ever seen the Broadway production of Les Mis? I remember seeing the complete Broadway roadshow in Hollywood many years ago. I remember the curtain opening and I looked at the sets and all I could say, is I’m looking at, at least, $1 million or more, of sets, on the stage now. And that’s before the production even started. When you see the full production, live in performance, this song affects you so deeply, that you actually begin to tremble a little bit.
