Like humans, goldies do best on a mixed diet. So rotating pellets, gel food, bloodworms, and the ocassional veggie treat is a great way to go. Nori seaweed (the stuff they wrap sushi in) is loved by a lot of fish too.

So I just alternate between them, along with a daily cube of gel food, and blood worms or veggies about 2-3 times a week. Just be sure that whatever you feed is a sinking food, anfd that you only feed as much as they'll polish off in a couple of minutes.

It is to get their goldfish larger and fat and can sell for good price. I have tried it and my fish love it. Only problem is the water need changing very often. Anyone reading this can try it. What I have done is put egg in a little bowl... add a bit of water and beat it. then wrap the bowl with clingwrap...then 40 seconds in microwave. Then you got your fish food. 1 egg is way enough. Have fun creating your fish food.

I feed my fish flakes. Like all floating food it sinks eventually but I remove it before that happens. So basically my fish have to go to the surface to eat. I have done this for a year with these gold fish and nothing bad has happened. But now I am worried, should I change to sinking food or will they be okay? Also they used to be in an unfiltered tank. And now they are in a filtered tank. They seem to be floating every now and again. But then they are fine again after the filter is turned off. I really want to keep the filter in there but I think it's the problem. What do you think I should do?

@dannybravo60057 жыл бұрын
yes definitely get aquarium sand. the ancestor of the goldfish, naturally scavenges for food at the bottom, they sift through the sand, they do swallow sand, but it is natural, because they are designed to sift through the sand looking for bits of food, this is hard to do, safely, with gravel.

Great video! It gave me a lot to think about. The staple of my goldfishes diet is pond stick pellets, as they live in an outdoor pond in the summer months. They float, and I don't think sinking food would work well in my pond because once they hit the bottom, they'll be lost in the murky depths of fallen leaves and debris. However, my goldfish never gulp at the surface to find food, perhaps because they're wary of threats from above, they only swim up and quickly snatch the food off the surface, and then go back down. I've done what I can to encourage this behaviour and not make them too tame, as I don't want them to come up to a cat or bird thinking it's feeding time. But they still live in an aquarium for more than half the year, perhaps I should stick to sinking foods for the most part, and just throw in some pond pellets now and then so they don't lose the habit entirely? They seem to find their own food in the pond in the shape of fallen worms and insects, algae and water plants too, so the pond pellets in the summer are more of a safety measure anyway. One more thing, where have you learned to perform a necropsy? I have been wanting to learn, even been planning to invest in a microscope, but it won't do much good unless I know what to look for, and how to do it correctly. I've done some googling on the subject but it's a jungle out there, and hard to find good information for the novice. Again, Thanks for your great videos, they're a pleasure to watch and learn from, and you remind me of a childhood friend of mine, we were "Fish companions". Easily the nerdiest kids in school, but hey, we can still enjoy our childhood passion. You're never too old or young to be a fish enthusiast!

I feed my pearlscales artificial mosquito larvae that contains just the same nutrients of a real mosquito larvae. Although it's a "floating" kind of pellet, the pearlscales just eat them from the bottom part of the pellets without actually consuming any air :) they only consume air rarely, but i'm relatively sure this is fine since Koi and Goldfish go to the surface naturally..

Hey i bought saki-hikari off the back of your vid and my 5 fish love them but u got to soak em ...i also feed them frozen blood worm and frozen brine shrimp from time to time. flake food works if u soak them in a cup of tank water and then pour in all around the tank they sink..yeah never surface feed! plus my fish get sunlight all day so they have lots of algae to eat and peck at that all day ;0) so i feed them once a day sometimes twice but i split the portion if i do... overfeeding is a major cause of goldfish and fancies death. Fishes stomachs are very very small as in sure you know Anyway i recently discovered your channel keep up the good work ! Lot of love from South London UK !! Hi, I just bought 2 comet goldfish 5 days ago and I've been feeding them fish pellets only since I didn't knew bout the other things and the place where I bought them from said that I could feed them fish pellets only and it would be fine too and they would still be healthy, but I want to make sure if that's okay? Also the Saki pellets brand that you recommend, would that be okay to feed comet goldfish and koi fish too or some other brand would be better? And I saw a video on KZbin bout this guy telling how feeding goldfish with peas would help them with constipation and feeding them at least once a week would also help prevent them from being constipated but which veggie would you recommend that would the best to feed them? I know you talk a bit bout it in this video but I wanted to ask to make sure since I know every fish has a diff diet routine. Btw my comet goldfish aren't very big yet, as for my other 2 goldfish since I got it from a friend I'm not sure what type goldfish it is

Hi Solid Gold! I don’t expect you to answer this but anyone who knows more about Goldfish than me please help! I just got my Black Moor, Nerbert, and I would like some help. So far he is basically 3” from head to tail. He is in a 10 gallon tank right now. The guy at Pet Smart said that he is going to need a 30 gal when he gets older, but then I go and read articles and I either get 10 gal minimum or another said 10 gal for a whole adult! I have a great filter on it, which actually produces a lot of bubbles since the water has a longer way to fall. He loves trying to swim up it and is very active so far. I do feed flakes but like a few others I feed it right by the filter so that it sinks. I have basically never seen him feed off the top, just scavenging or catching it as it floats down. I have a small heater in there that keeps it around 72F, and I feed him once at night and once in the morning. I’ve watched your growth video as well, so here are my questions. 1. How big do you think he will get? 2. Should I feed less or more? 3. Will he need a bigger tank? 4. Do you think he will need a bubbler? 5. Anything else you notice from my description that you want to tip me off about?

For 8 years, I have had a Red Fantail, Black Moor and Common Goldfish living in a 6x4x2ft aquarium with 2 internal filters. I feed them floating pellets and Goldfish flakes every night before I go to bed and have done this since I got them, just gradually increasing the amounts over the years. I've never had buoyancy issues with them ever although my Red Fantail did get Ich a few months back and has had some sort of injury/growth on her side after having her for 7 or 8 months. Her problem though has never effected her in any way, shape or form. I do a 10-20% water change every Sunday and have had a certain routine for feeding them since I got them. I pour about 20 pellets into my hand in front of the glass so the fish can see me doing so then I put the pellets into the tank. Afterwards I shake the flake food pot above the water to let them know it's feeding time (like a dinner bell) and they race to the surface. I then put roughly enough flakes in that would lightly cover the palm of my hand. My Common is a 12 inch long female, my Red Fantail is a 8 inch long female and my Black Moor is a 10 inch long male. Every 3-4 months, I do buy a pack of frozen bloodworms as a treat and I put 2 cubes in the morning as a treat then in the evening I give them their normal meal. Not once have I had any problems with their health or swimming other than my Red Fantail's 2 incidents. I'm not trying to disagree with Solid Gold's opinion but I am just trying to say that it just depends on the individual fish and owner on what the meals should be, whether floating or sinking. Good luck and happy fish keeping to you all!

That isn't that old for a goldfish, I knew someone who Kept a goldfish in a bow and it had a sad miserable existence for almost 5 years. its growth was stunted and it was unhealthy but survived. If properly taken care of they can live upwards of 20+ years (record being around 50! i believe) and turn out as large 8 to 12 inches depending on species and be healthy and magnificent creatures!

Katie A Katie, I feed mine, i have 3, every other day because it reduces the need to clean and the water stays a lot cleaner. I think what you are doing is most important, the bigger the tank the less you have to worry with it. Tanks don't clean themselves, but the more space you have the better you can build a mini-ecosystem that is less dependent on you fussing with it. People always have 1000 rules and I live to break them. Mine live with harlequin rasboras and cherry barbs, something everyone will tell you not to do, but they get along fine, and the rasboras and barbs are fine as long as the temp is over 60.

I have flakes for my goldfish but I just put the flakes under the filter so that they can be pushed down and they don’t float and my goldfish don’t really like pellets they’ll put in their mouth then spit it back out and don’t end up eating it but this video was very helpful

Solid Gold Aquatics I had a query. How much and how often should you feed two fantail goldfish? I have had them for over a year and a half now. I feed them hikari goldfish sinking sticks, so how many should I feed each how many times a day? All the advice on goldfish feeding is so haywire on the internet and I am confused. Do help Solid Gold Aquatics!!

I like the idea of weighing the fish to determine how much food they need. Why have I not seen this recommended before??? Seems a simple way to get a good base-line for the feeding and then of course it can be adjusted.

She doesn't like flake food because honestly this person seems to be a hipster. She seems to stay away from commonly used items simply because the fact because they're commonly used items. She basically said it herself that she thinks the basic majority think flake food is good for goldfish. Flake for doesn't float, you simply have to push it in to the water for a few seconds, same with pellet food that don't sink. It's also designed to not dissolve in water. I literally went into this video thinking, "she's not going to like flake food because the basic majority use it and make up some shit to prove her point." and the exact thing happened because it's a trend in most of her videos. I'm not trying to jack off flake food, I myself prefer pellets and a variety of vegetables.

fish food She knows what's she's doing. Feeding solely flakes will not grow your fish to their full potential. That's all really.

She's not a "hipster" she's just educated and warned people about something that can cause health problems for their fish.

I put my flake food right next to the filter so it pushes it down quickly and it's worked well, so far I've have my carnival goldfish for 7 years

Live foods such as daphnia and bloodworm are available in the U.K. which are a good thing but the risk is introducing pests and disease, just like adding a new fish to the aquarium.

When you soak freeze dried...soak them and then push on them to get most of the air out...they also get rid of most of the air when put in the tank:)

I feed my black moors frozen goldfish dinner which has all of the things that they need. I feed that 1 day a week and 2 days a week I feed them peas just to keep their digestive system moving. Also feed flakes that sink. I am going to move to sinking pellets.

Hi Jennie! Thanks so much for this really informative video! I was already suspecting this, but due to being a novice I've trained my fish to gulp at the surface of the water which actually led to buoyancy issues in some. Hopefully I can change this behaviour with the sinking pellets and in general I soak the flakes now so they sink to the bottom immediately as well. HOW much to feed was great to learn as well! Regarding your hair - I do find it quite original and you look quite good! I did actually enterntain an idea, given by a user below, and I think you would look better as a blonde, not a brunette :) Thanks so much and I'm deffinitely subscribing to your channel!

Thanks for this video! I have two very happy little (quite big, actually haha) comets. They usually have little goldfish food pellets as their usual meals. After watching this video, I thought I should really give them a variety of new things! I have them some peeled peas today and they loved them! Thanks a heap!
