These tips are invaluable, Jennifer! My husband and I have 5 boys and our youngest is about the same as yours -- this toddler stage is very challenging, especially trying to paint. So my husband takes the kids out when he gets home and I power work then. It is challenging but not creating the work is way worse. I love your work and look forward to seeing more of it!!!

I feel this. I have a three year old and am about to go on mat leave for my second child. I’m no where near being a full time artist but it’s my goal. Ever since my first was born my skills have continued to grow but time management became super important. Now that she is older and more active it’s harder to find time to make art, so I tend to wake up early and go to bed late lol. I don’t know how this will work with a newborn, but it will mean I’m home full time... which is better than working full time and having a toddler lol. Hopefully it translates to more art. Best wishes, and great pointers.

Congratulations on your second kid! Right now I can’t imagine balancing two sleep schedules with a baby and toddler. I took off the first 3 months before I started figuring out how to work while taking card of Jude. I hope to have another kid one day so I’d love to hear how it goes for you. Best of luck!

8:58 I admire you enthusiasm and dedication to become an artist and mother. Balance: loving mother and artist and wife. Awesome. You captures the correct facial expression of a crying baby. Nice, you allow the art enthusiast to interpret the sketch; a crying baby or --- the Emperor's new clothes (naked).

I love that interpretation of the drawing! And thank you.

Well done you are doing really well and I so appreciate the work you are doing just to produce these videos. Love your last rule and was so glad when you said it. So important to look after yourself. I have two little children and another one due in a few weeks! Definitely found if I don't feel good it usually means I am tired and undernourished. Some things I have found really help are defiantly prioritising sleep and getting really nutrient dense food inside. Drinking a really strong nettle tea daily is a little hack I feel makes a massive difference as well. Also avoiding sugar as much as possible, at least not to have it in the food I eat regularly. The bio-hacking community have some really great tips for optimising health and performance. And routine becomes more and more important as they get older just to get things done. I spend a few hours in my studio every afternoon after lunch time which usually lines up with nap times. And having two children is definitely easier than one when it comes to getting things done. They entertain themselves so well, just have to make sure you have a destruction proof house! All the best and keep the videos coming. I enjoy watching your progress and evolution as an artist.

That is encouraging to hear about having 2 kids. I want to have another one someday and it seems really intimidating. Congratulations on your baby coming soon!

Ok, i do not have a baby. But, rules need to be followed when working from home. Or, i will have to find a job working for someone else. Great drawing! That sweater was really nice!

Yes, I wonder what would have happened if I made up these rules before I had my baby!

@@JenniferMariePainting When I had my children I took 18 months off work to enjoy them when they were so small. I slept or rested when they did, rolled on the floor and played with them and took the out in their pushchair. I enjoyed this time so much - it was not stressful. I think you are creating stress with all your "goals". Just relax don't draw, don't make goals. I'm English, so perhaps we have a different culture, but I think you should at least give up your "goals" for 6 months to avoid a nervous breakdown. Just relax and enjoy. Take care.

I took 3 months off and really enjoyed my time with Jude. However painting and drawing makes me also feel so fulfilled, that's why I want to balance both parenthood and making art. Though you are so right to avoid the nervous breakdown, and I will keep that in mind if I feel like I'm pushing myself too much. cheers!

@@JenniferMariePainting thank you so much! My boy is due in April and I’m so excited and it’s inspiring to see how another dedicated artist balances the two worlds. I’m right there with you, I will spend all the quality time with him but art is also my life and I have to integrate that into it too. I like how you broke it down into goals and one of them being taking care of yourself! Thanks again girl and i absolutely love your work 🥰

...the secret is to stay motivated by any means necessary while living a normal life and taking care of your responsibilities 😊...your definitely in control and your keeping us motivated in the process...😊❤️ and yes, I see paintings in my head all the time...hardest thing is to execute what i see ...🙄

Yes, the hardest is to execute it the paintings from our minds. I wonder if that is something that we will get better at or if that will always be the case.

I have done a little bit of Plein air painting and I hope to get back to it. I actually just found a French Plein air easel on the side of the road that someone was getting rid of. I hope I can restore it and try it out.
