You did better than you give yourself credit for. You have accomplished so much on this channel, from working on the ground in the shittiest weather conditions installing struts, to plumbing and mason work; all while knowing that 100-200k people would be watching. You’ll easily be able to master manual transmissions.

That is how I taught one of my older sisters how to drive a manual transmission. Right in the high school 🏫 parking lot. Had a 1985 Ford Ranger with a 2.0 l and a 5 speed.

My first car was a 1963 club Econoline from my grandfather. 3 on the tree. 6 cylinder 170. Had to put brakes on it before I could drive it. Overheated if driven during the day. Replaced the motor with a long block and drove it to Oregon. Fun van

I love it when young folks drive older cars. Look this is the way it was in my early days. they were slow HOT and overheating most of the time. I am surprised you didnt overheat a few times. An unrestored van like that still working is just not the same as a newer car.

AH, the 60s don`t you just love the simplicity of everything about the Ford Econoline van, the safety brake, winglets, motor at your finger tips, heating top to cook on and if your sleepy just pull over & crawl into your bed...what more could a young couple ask for kids.. That Ford Econoline van was what we were amazed to find at the end of the Marrakesh express to rent well sort of...it was a good thing that your wify is cajun and speaks french & for 300 francs wallah...Ford is a world wide product and we loved going thru the Moroccan desert to Tangiers and finally to Fes and of course we all know " you never do it without your Fes on"...Loved that Van and love your Dacshund we had red Hans "Stuckie" Stuck the famous German racer he even won a couple of them hot dog races even...love the car wrenchin,Padna keep on truckin

Awesome adventure back to Arizona...I had a chuckle with the quart of oil..My family owned Napa stores and I grew up with oil just like that you had a spout specifically made for the can and was a simple operation to add it. I also remember as a youngster putting up stock that they came in cases of 24...I was a little saver and every dollar I earned I saved for college and was actually able to pay for it all. The van has a cool vibe and would look so awesome with a Mystery Machine Wrap on it. Great content as always and get in there and shift away we all know you can😊😎🇺🇸🛠️🤠

This truck was originally a Bell Telephone Company service van from the middle 1960s. I had a high school friend that bought a Ford van exactly like this one in 1971(?). It was military flat green. I want to say his van was a 1965 with an inline 6 cylinder motor, a “3 on the tree” manual transmission and already had 100K miles on it. He paid like $700. for the truck. I was unimpressed… I thought he bought a high school shitbox as a daily driver for a few months. Well the Dude drove that van for over 150,000 miles!! He had it for well over a decade! That ugly van was an awesome vehicle! He drove it to Colorado and ski bummed out of it. It went across the country several times. He drove it to Mexico with a couple of friends. He used it as a work truck for years; which was its original function. He drove that van for 12+ years and sold it with 250,000 miles on the clock and it was still running great! Your Ford van may not look like much, but it is an EXCELLENT vehicle! Its over 60 years old and still running strong! I knew several people that had these trucks, all loved them. They were around back in the day, all former Bell Telephone service vans, always military flat green. These vans were cheap to buy and run, easy to repair and were durable, dependable, utilitarian transportation. This was an excellent score; you’ll see. This video was a trip down memory lane.

Jen, Chris, Gus…Another Great trip. Thanks for sharing. That is the sloppiest shifter I have ever seen. If Jen can drive that, she can drive anything! My Dad had a 63 and a 65 Econoline. I learned to drive in the 63 van. When learning, you must learn to look forward and not down at the road. In these vans, you can “Really” look down at the Road! Either my brother or I had to sit on the motor. That was the Hot Seat!

So Jen, you did great. My wife was 30 when she got her license (lived in a city until she met me 10 years ago, never needed a car), and my old clapped out Accord was the only available car when our kid was stuck in the middle of nowhere at a friend's house, couldn't get an uber to save our lives, and the Honda is a stick. If it was anything other than a Honda, she'd have destroyed my transmission, because she absolutely "Honda shifted" every time. Honda manuals are built really sturdy and can take super hard shifting. I'm talking Fast & the Furious every single gear change. You treated that old Ford 100x nicer, be proud of yourself because you can now have modern day anti-theft.

I had a 1964 Econoline Pickup truck. Looks the same as the van, but with a factory pickup bed and a ballast weight under neath to keep it from nose planting when you hit the brakes. We put in a 300 inline 6 cyl. Still had the 1 barrel carb, automatic trans, and a set of adapter to use factory rims from a 442 Olds. It was a fun truck. the battery mounts behind the seat, the master cylinder is under the driver's floorboard. Fun truck. I like that the front wheels are behind you, and it will surprisingly pull a U-turn in some of the smallest streets

I like your little Van that is set up cool with the fancy steering wheel and shifter it's a great thing to challenge yourself to learn new things and driving a 3 on the tree not very many people can say they've driven one but keep it up and you got this. Nick is there to help guide you through the challenges. I watched his video but I enjoyed this one the most. Don't get discharged just start again and the next thing you know you are proficient and enjoying the ride. Have a fun trip.

You guys are a good fun active couple. Love watching the channel whether it's boats or cars. Find a Chris Craft boat, then you'll keep it. And, Jen don't practice three on the tree with that slop. Unless u really like the challenge. If you master that, you could master any manual transmission. They would all seem easy by comparison. Black belt by school of loose bushings.... Scooby van is worth the adventure....

I'd help you out with the gears but my 62 Bedford van was right hand drive and the gear shift was on the left of the steering wheel. So if I stood on my head and looked in a mirror I'd probably be almost useful. Very similar vehicles to be honest but the Bedford had a big torque four cylinder. 3 Speed gearbox with no synchromesh on first, so double de-clutching was the order of the day to manage changing into first while moving. Cheers from New Zealand, loved the video.
