Thanks for another great video. Your maxim should be 'honesty is the best policy!' I too think Talkia has the edge overall. However, I'd be curious to know how Talkia and Speechelo compare pricewise. It seems that Speechelo is currently a $37 one time payment for the standard version (the one reviewed earlier), while Talkia is $69 per month for the enterprise (the one reviewed here). So the comparison is not as straightforward as it at first seems.

If you subscribe to an entire year the Enterprise version is $40 per month (instead of $69. for monthly rate and cancel any month. Up to 5000 words voices per session which is like a 4 page word file double spaced. The annual rate for 1000 words per session (not sure if there is a monthly max.) is $20 per month for full year sign up, or $39. for monthly cancel anytime any month. Also from what I understand both Talkia and Speechelo access some of Amazon's AI voices (by license), just their software interfaces are different as Talkia has some modification controls as shown here.

Jenn, thank you so much for this! I just purchased Talkia, watched their tutorials, and got nowhere fast. Watching your video made it so much easier. The biggest annoyance I had was the Speak It button. I couldn't figure out how to stop it - forcing me to listen to all I had pasted in before I could make the next adjustment - until you said all I needed to do was click the button a 2nd time.

Interface wise, the Talkia software has a lot more adjustments that work well. Costwise, Talkia is monthly or annual subscription while you can get a lifetime access to Speechelo in their upgrade version (which I got at a one time cost in Nov. sales, however, I am limited to 20,000 characters per month, that's characters not words, as there is a big limit of how many characters per session use). So if you don't need a lot of voice overs Speechelo is more economical if this works for lite use. If you think you need it for regular use and lots of voice over creation from Text then Talkia is probably the way to go with packages for 1000 words per session, or second tier to 5000 words per session for the upgrade. I wrote a 4 page double spaced word script at 11pt. that hit 5000 characters. This one I will voice myself for my channel as I don't have Talkia. For short voice ad work for videos around a minute Speechelo would work and I have that. There are a small handful of voices in AI on Speechelo that sound very good and not robotic for both male and female. So depends on your needs.

One thing that disgusts me is all the leading Text to speech platforms use alot of the same voices that the other ones have. I've got Speechelo, Textalky, Revoicer, and Mic Monster. My pick for the best is definately The Upgraded MicMonster platform, however the more voices i can get the better with character animation videos for kids.

@@nathanhutchinson Thanks for the tip! In the last months, I've learned how to leverage the engine Talkia and similar PaaS sites use -- Amazon Polly (a component of the Amazon Web Services suite). Based only on this video, Talkia might be better than Speechelo, but I think it's so marginally better than it doesn't really matter. I have Speechelo. I don't love it, but I need its translation feature for some projects, where the audience is well-aware that it's AI. Also, although I have to go through each voice one-by-one to get a suitable rendition, these AI voices sometimes do okay for very short texts, like taglines and bumpers. The longer the text, the clearer it becomes for the audience that it's not real.

I`ve used Speech Engine's voices for almost 25 years now. I can detect a non-human voice any time and in this review, I believe that the pitch of the Talkia voice is about 50% better than the other. But no way they are any closer to replace human voices. There are though, some instances where both voices are very good.

The human voice is extremely complex. Having AI interpret tone from text is very hard, Just look at how hard it is to properly take tonal nuances from written messages as a human. We still misinterpret meaning just from text as we misread tone. The same sentence can have very different meanings based on tone. I don't see this ever being perfect without human intervention. As long as the user understands that this is a tool in the process and not creation of a finished and polished product from the get go.

Great video, Jenn. I hate the way both of them sound, personally. But I think they have some merit. The ability to add emphasis on chosen words as well as pauses is certainly a plus! I purchased the enterprise version of Talkia and have been playing around with it to learn what I like and dislike. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable using these voices for a finished video, but I think they are a great tool for mock-ups and such.

Think like a tv add style, we paid 2/3 years ago $400 then we got the person to edit all the video another $100! For a couple of not to good sounding words that you don't use anyway both softwares offer amazing value.. There not made for words that are hardly used as its target is micro companies that don't have millions to spend on adds.. There are many other uses that could be used with this software.. We have since learn't to edit videos and the mic we use is worth $300... Just saying IMHO.. 😀👍

After purchasing the enterprise version of Talkia, I'm seriously disappointed that there is no "Save As" option or "Duplicate" option. I am creating 28 separate audio files, and each time I create a new project, I have to re-select the voice, set the speed, pitch and volume to match the earlier files. (Their customer support said they'd consider these features for future enhancements.) This is basic functionality that Doodly has, so the company is capable of these features. They've just chosen not to program these into Talkia. SMH

Additionally You can add more voices in just $47 and It is not a bad deal. I think the voices are as usual not 100 human like but not too bad to emphasis or criticize like this to give a stupid rating for a machine learning program. I am worried it is a sponsored compassion.

Just watched this directly after your Speechelo review. Talkia is definitely better straight out of the box, with no experience in tweaking the scripts and voices. My criticism with your Speechelo review is that you did not use the pitch adjustment in conjunction with the emphasize function. While you did use pitch adjustment for Talkia, I see it affected the entire script. Is there no capability to select only a word or phrase to which to adjust the pitch? One final question? One year on, have you been using either of these programs in the interim, and learned any tips and tricks to significantly improve the results you obtained in your reviews? (And, no, I don't expect you to actually address my questions in a reply, but I do thank you for the animated "Subscribe and Like" videos you offered.)

I actually liked the voice of Speechelo better? I was expecting to like Talkia more. The good thing about them both is that you can generate a recording from text, and make some tweaks to improve a little. Thanks for the great review, it was exactly what I was looking for, very helpful. I do think for many people, end results aside, the price definitely comes into play. There seems to be a massive difference in this area with Talkio being about $39 a month billed anually ......as compared to Speechelo having the $27 outright cost for basic and that's it......Am I missing something? I feel this is a very important point for people making their decision. I realise they can find this out for themselves just would be helpful to have that information in a review. Thanks again

I like both, there are voices that are great, and not so great on both platforms, but went with Talkia since I have more use for English-speaking voices than different languages. Also, the one-time payment option available at the time I got it was irresistable. I still might get Speechelo, but wish it had a demo/trial since the question of how user-friendly the interface is is a big concern. Wouldn't want to buy something, only to discover it doesn't work for me.

I have Speechelo, the end result is very good but the user interface is awful. It has a pop up at almost every move.

I think Speecheelo's Man sound is better than Google and Amazon's sounds. I think you should also have tried with Man sounds, but probably you couldn't see man wavenet voiceover for U.S.. You're right with that these are not enough for real human voiceover for now. But in the near future: maybe.

Well, I think most of these voiceovers still beat the heck out of any voice-changer applications out there.

Where these come into their own is for anyone who has a thick accent that ppl will find difficult to understand. ( Like me from New Zealand)

As "natural" as they sound, or so we all would love to believe, I still can't hear very well is it "Clone Production" or "Plum Production" or perhaps "Fun Production" in your demo ad? ;-) Take care!
