This movie is very underrated, everyone in this movie did fantastic job. I hate wedding movies because they all are super cheesy, but this one blew me away. I was mesmerized by Jenny’s mom and the depth of her character, I also deeply loved Anne and how her character developed throughout the movie. This movie is not about wedding, but the family and friends you love. I always like to watch and study movies about what they are trying to teach us, is there something bigger meaning. And this movie has so much depth in all characters, their body language, their facial expressions, their words and what they mean. I haven’t seen a movie with this much depth and character developement in years. Very underrated movie, give this movie a chance and watch it with a open mindset, you will be surprised how good this movie really is. I sure was mesmerized and glued to my sofa from beginning to the end.

Anyone notice she never kisses her fiance once in that trailer? If it were a straight couple there would have been a million notebook-like kiss scenes. They even TALK about them kissing in the trailer, but never show it (which is why everyone thinks they have no chemistry). She says she's never been more certain of anything in her life other than marrying Alexis Bledel and then... hugs her? :-/ I mean, baby steps I guess but I wish there was at least one actual gay actress in this cast and that the whole thing didn't seem to be about her upper class wasp-y parents having to accept she's gay. There are more interesting movie conflicts than that at this point.

***** I'm not hating. Just pointing out the issues with having movies about LGBT that play to mainstream straight audiences. There is a long history of Hollywood desexualizing gay and lesbian couples for the sake of a mainstream audience and it's frustrating. It's 2015, we can see two women who are getting married actually kiss each other in a trailer. I challenge you to find several mainstream rom-com trailers with heterosexuals where no one kisses anyone else. Because I'd seriously like to see that.

Hopefully the next one won't have to include the coming out process now that gay marriage is legal in the states and it will become more normalized (though I understand it's still a story that needs to be told for today's gay youth still struggling). I watched this movie despite hearing that it was terrible, and I very much regret it. It feels like this movie was written by straight people to make other straight people feel better about themselves if they've ever accidentally felt a bit homophobic. This movie isn't about Jenny and her wedding. This movie is about how Jenny's parents react to her sexuality, and how those poor people have to struggle to cope with accepting their daughter's sexuality. And this is depicted as completely valid! Sure, I understand that finding out that your child is gay can be difficult, because you have had certain expectations on how they were going to turn out, who they were going to marry, etc. But that doesn't mean that you should take center stage in your child's coming out journey, and it doesn't mean that, as long as you accept them in the end, that it's okay for you to ask them who does what in bed (unless your child has told you that those types of questions are okay to ask, but you wouldn't even ask your straight children what they do in bed, would you? So why would you want to know what your gay child does in bed?). The biggest clue that this movie is a "poor straight parents"-movie rather than a movie about a lesbian woman and her wedding is that her fiancee, Kitty, is almost completely absent from the movie. If this movie was truly about Jenny and her wedding, wouldn't it make more sense to focus on her relationship with Kitty? Or at least give Kitty a few more scenes to establish her as something more than a roommate whom Jenny doesn't really have great chemistry with.
