Hope you’re feeling a bit better now, I’ve been the same with worrying how winter colds are going to impact covid testing and everything to do with healthcare as a whole 😌 The covid test us already pretty rapid (taking a couple of hours in hospital and 24 hours in the covid testing tent things, which isn’t too bad 🙂 I would love if they could develop a nicer way to test for it though, completely agree that it’s especially unpleasant for children xx

Also, I’m so happy you were able to save for your iPad, you absolutely deserve nice things just as much as anyone else, whether you get benefits for your disability or not! I feel the same way about this sort of thing and found it helpful hearing you talk about it, so thank you for sharing it with us Jenny xx

Thank you for your comment. Sorry this reply is so late - I've been struggling to keep on top of things with my health, but am getting there slowly! Thanks lovely - it seems our concerns about Covid and the winter months have become reality - I hope you're doing as OK as possible. Thank you for your reassurance about the iPad - I'm glad me talking about my feelings was helpful, as I often feel like I shouldn't buy 'nice' things if I'm on benefits xx

Social services I find are useless. I need help preparing meals, dealing with life admin, cleaning, tidying & volunteering and even though they're included in Care Act 2014 they still keep giving me a big fat no. They don't care about my quality of life, in their eyes if I can't do it I should just not do it! But then I have my shower & dressing carers commenting on how messy & dirty my house is like I have a choice! I mean I know the criteria and the law and I struggle, makes me worry about those who don't understand what they're actually entitled too. For meals you usually can get help with breakfast as meals & wheels don't offer breakfast, but then you pay out of pocket for the meals and wheels service (very, very expensive.). I don't use it as they don't offer vegan!! My council actually state: "Some older and disabled people face significant risks if they are unable to prepare balanced meals for themselves, and do not have friends or family to help. We can support eligible people with preparing meals so they are able to stay safe and well." Which I assume is written in a language social services do not understand seen as they keep saying no to me. lol When it comes to care costs make sure you tell them to assess your disabled related expenditure. I managed to get my care bill down from £60 a week too £0! Just looked up the mask. Interesting how they skate around the coronavirus question and says filters out bacteria. I have the cambridge mask which good as filters out viruses but feel like I'm going to pass out as so hot. lol I don't see the iPad as a luxury if it will improve your mental health for example having access to one!

Thank you for your comment - sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I've been struggling to keep on top of things with my health, but really appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment :) Sorry to hear you have found Social Services so useless - it seems to be a bit of a postcode lottery. It's awful that they won't help people with basic things like preparing meals, cleaning etc! That must be horrible to have your carers commenting on the state of your house - you'd think they should keep opinions like that to themselves, especially when they know you need help to do those things. Yes I looked at Meals on Wheels and couldn't believe how expensive it was. It would be cheaper for me to just have ready meals from the supermarket each day, although not ideal. That's bad that they don't offer things like vegan options - it's not like it's an unusual diet these days! Thank you for the advice on care costs. The lady who did my assessment was really helpful in helping me to work out my disabled related expenses and came up with things I hadn't even thought of like pads and needing extra washing. My bill hasn't been lowered to 0 unfortunately (frustratingly, they won't take into account the fact I have to pay my parents some rent, which is ridiculous considering I'm in my 30's and can't expect my parents to still be paying for me!) but we did manage to reduce the contribution a bit. I got myself a Cambridge Mask in the end, as soon as they came back in stock. I know what you mean about feeling like you'll pass out though! Thank you for your comment about the iPad - that's very true! xx
