I used to walk around Edale with my Dad when in my late teens. The station looks lovely, only ever passed through it when on a train from Stockport to Peterborough.

Have to say that the Hope Valley Line or Hope Valley Railway is so picturesque and beautiful as well the railway stations on the route. Such beautiful places to visit by train. Very nice Jen. 😊

The Hope Valley is one of the best walking areas in Britain! I just love it! Glad you alighted at Edale. That’s one of my favourite locations! The Penny Pot café is good, but for a proper meal you’ll want the Rambler Inn or the Old Nag’s Head. There’s others as well, but they’re the most prominent.

The amazing Hope Valley line. For me its the access to the Peak from Sheffield. It's recently been upgraded: the smelly purple Pacers have been replaced by those new shiny trains and the platforms have been lengthened at several of the stations so that all the doors can open. There's a new platform going in at Dore and Totley so that there can be two lines through that station instead of one. The ease of which it gets you out into the countryside is amazing. There's so many walks that you can do between stations. I completely recognise that the Woodhead line was far superior in terms of technology and actual electrification, but I'm glad its the Hope Valley line that was kept.

I've never been much of an outdoorsy person but your videos really make me want to get out and explore more, you don't get countryside like that where I live! I'd love to take a day trip up north exploring by rail.

Many years ago some friends were camping in Edale in February and we went for a wander to Kinder Downfall. The weather was awful and despite being experienced and well equipped we got cold and wet. We could see signs of incipient hypothermia. So we did the sensible thing and got off the top by the shortest route. That's how we ended up in Hayfield. How to get home? A bus to Chinley and then a train back to Edale. Do I love the Hope Valley Line? Yes! as far as we are concerned it was a life saver. (And there was a cafe near Edale Station that served a massive All-Day Breakfast at 1pm. 😁)

Clearly being outdoors in the countryside is really good for you. I live in Inverness and I find it a bit crowded and busy at times. Although lucky enough to be able to jump on a train on the Kyle line or Far North Lines for a day’s escape. Gorgeous scenery and you were lucky with the weather 😊

Hi Jen, Apologies for lack of commenting, been having posting issues on KZbin. As a result of my complaining I have had to carry out a massive update which, along with all the other apps, took all afternoon and evening, so now I'm back in the game. I'm really enjoying this series of your travels and it's really obvious how much happier you now are. Keep visiting beautiful places Jen, it's clearly doing you good. 🙂 As ever, take care, Jon B.

Many years ago before I moved to Manchester, I used to often visit the Peak District. One year when camping at Edale, myself and a group of friends walked from Edale to Hope over Back Tor and dropped down near the famouse Cheshire Cheese pub. The intention was to take the train back to Edale from Hope. Anyway we arrived on Hope Station after many hours in the pub and whilst waiting for the train, we observed two lads who had just finished the Pennine way as part of their DofE Gold expedition. They had also walked over Back Tor but not stopped at the pub. One was attempting to remove the large amounts of 2 inch wide Elastoplast that he had wrapped around his ankles to cover the blisters which he had earned though starting the walk in brand new boots. He was sat on the ground in one of the then wooden shelters on the platform, gently trying to peel it away and whincing as he did so. One of our party was a trained nurse, although she was no longer working as such. She went up to the lad with the words "Can I help you, I am a trained nurse". The lad had been picking away at it for 10 minutes or so and was getting nowhere, so he accepted her help. She bend down and with one gigantic rip, she tore off all that on one leg with a big florish. Suffice to say, I think people just starting out at Kirk Yetholm heard his scream. She proudly held up the strip of what looked like a rug as she had removed every hair from his lower leg, and he was a very hairy lad. Surprisingly when we managed to unpeel him from the roof of the shelter, he let her do the other leg. I am sure I saw a smile on her face as she prepared to do the second one!

there absolutely IS research that shows these outdoor experiences are good for you. I think it is why so many people enjoy bird watching. I started that way and then it became awareness of plants and bugs. The portability of a camera is a great way to take field notes and go home to figure out what it is you discovered. a hungry mind, learning and enjoying. Doesnt even have to cost anything. The local park, is filled with nature just waiting to be noticed. Be Aware of Wonder
