Thank you Jenny. I'm giving my first knitting lesson to a friend this morning and I wanted to make sure that I could send her home with a very easy turtorial to follow online when she gets home afterward. I've been knitting for 50 years. My mother taught me how to knit when I was a Brownie Scout at age 9! yeah mom! and yeah grandmother!

I'm so glad I found this video. The other Jeny's bind off I've watched work Continental knit or they're hands move out of the video watching area. I'd just about given up learning this technique. Thanks so much....... This was great.

Thank you so much for this video. I've never heard of this bind-off method until today. I sure do need a stretchy bind-off, for a blanket I'm doing. My yarn has no stretch, & the cast-on edge was difficult, so I'm anticipating the same thing at the other end. Hopefully, this method will help. And thanks for the heads up regarding the extra yarn needed. :)

Thanks for the hint about allowing six times the width of the piece when determining if there's enough yarn left to do this bind off. I hate to play Yarn Chicken at the end of a project! I'm using this bind off on a garter stitch piece, and from both the front and the back it looks like there's a chain at the top...very cool!
@elsieb31769 жыл бұрын
Yarn chicken is when one gambles on whether or not there's enough yarn to finish a project. I lose all too often!
@brittany456 жыл бұрын
The crochet chain look makes this a very good match to the Chinese Waitress Caston, if you're one of those people who like the beginning and end of your projects to match.

Great video. First one I found that showed how to do this with 2x2 rib. This is now my bind off of choice for socks. I have fat calves and this fits perfectly. Thanks so much Bloomingknitter!
@juliehicks288810 жыл бұрын
I'm going to try this on a headband I'm working on for my granddaughter. It will have 1x1 rib and I want it to be stretchy so it isn't too tight on her head. To Vulcansausage, it could be you're a tight knitter and maybe you should try going up several needle sizes for your bind-off, as Bloomingknitter suggested.

Used this on a scarf and love how loose it feels. But before I realized it I was out of yarn. I finished with just over an inch of yarn left, so next time I will save 7x the length instead of 6x. It may be because I used very bulky yarn. Thanks so much. I was worried about how I would end it without it looking much tighter than the beginning end. This bind off will be what I use from now on.

If you're knitting continental (working yarn from the skein in left hand) where do you yarn over, on the left needle with the work on it, or the right needle that is temporarily holding the bind off stitches? I'm trying to learn knitting on my own and I prefer the continental method. Thank you
@Bloomingknitter7 жыл бұрын
Whether you are knitting continental or english style you would still yarn over on the working needle (right needle). Hopefully that helps.

Thank you for your reply.

When you pass the stitches over, is it important to keep the yarn on the same side as where it ends after making the third stitch? I have a habit of pulling the yarn to the original position after a purl.

I believe that reverse yarn over is technically called a "yarn forward" and the other is called a "yarn over"
@quizillafreak10 жыл бұрын
A yarnforward does not go over the needle and create a stitch like that. A yarn forward is when you're knitting for example in a rib 2x2, you knit two knit stitches, you yarn forward (so the yarn is in the front) and purl two stitches

Vulcansausage Which bind off do you use that is more stretchy?

Bloomingknitter I usually bind off using a needle 3 to 4 sizes bigger than the needle I used for the project.
