I was really happy to see someone say that. I am a dancer and I heard they were famous but honestly they are not excellent here, some better than others but not the full group good enough to be behind the force of nature, the enormous JUNGKOOK dancing while singing.The Korean team though was way better in every performance they were with JK. A real homogeneous support team of dancers putting the spotlight on the star.

I understand where you're coming from about the back-up dancers but to keep in mind, his back-up line-up is chocked full of dancing and choreography legends - Ian Eastwood, Brian Puspos, Nick Joseph... Brian Puspos in particular JK has been a fan of for a long time and even did a dancer cover of one of his choreos with Jimin of a few years ago. Therefore, I think rather than a more cohesive and anonymous backing, JK's really showcasing talented and experienced dancers who have inspired him and that he respects. Also, having these kind of dancers can really help JK mature and develop as a dancer and performer as he tends to learn really well from whoever he's surrounded by

Well, you smiling, laughing, rewinding, yelling, telling us to shut up when we were not saying anything made me laugh so much. Jungkook has been bringing me just pure joy and happy moments since Seven was released, i'm laughing and smiling every day. One of the producers for this Andrew Watt (and for Seven) is also a guitarist and lays himself the guitar on many tracks he produces. Jungkook performed this for iheart radio and it was insanely good, and in TIME SQUARE for a crazy pop up concert, it's up on Bangtan Tv. BTS has hip-hop r'nb funk roots, they do many genres (pop, EDM, pop rock, jazzy, etc etc) but these 3 are imo their roots. They paid homage several times to MJ :) I love it. (Ppl talked a lot about MJ after Jungkook world cup Dreamers perf too.) Standing Next To You is my favorite Jungkook song, and I'm Jungkook biased so this is mad to me. Even the instrumental is stuck into my brain. The quality of the song, the vibe, the instrumentation, the choreo and the SCOPE Jungkook's interpretation and vocals give the song are insane. Jungkook said working on the songs for Golden he has reached another vocal level and I am here for it.

The bass lines are not exact, but the whole scene is reminiscent of Thriller. The heavy bass was a big part of Thriller. In Beat it, the bass line is the same over and over - very little variation. The choreographed fight scene in Beat It starts at 3:20. Both videos were choreographed by Michael Peters (he's the one in the white suit in Beat it) so the dance scenes are similar - and SNTY uses alot of those moves. This was what I was hoping for with his first solo album. Not hating on 3D or Seven, but this? THIS is what he's capable of. Style. And yes, BTS has cited MJ as one of the artists they've been influenced by/fans of - JK and Jimin has a Very Nice two-man MJ dance in one of their early celebration shows. This is clearly an homage to the old King of Pop from the contender to the throne. ;)

Can't help but agree for 100%. It's type of music he is supposed to do and it fits him a lot. First time since summer and Seven I've seen REAL JK finally. It's his song completely. Before for me he got lost in popular pop star image and songs are really not in his style, nature. Just stereotypical american pop songs that nobody would listen if that was not JK or maybe Justin Bieber, you know. But STNY is something real. And live performances hit different. I really see his energy. Previous songs were kinda empty. 7:00 "That's the level of artist that you're fucking with" SAY IT! This is the same energy Jimin had in that clip of the Wings Tour. When the performance director told him to tone it down a bit because the backup dancers couldn't keep up, and Jimin said they needed to get on his level. I completely agree with you.. After I saw his performance with the Korean dancers, my admiration for them increased even more than I originally liked them.. Their synchronization is amazing and they mix with him wonderfully.. These dancers I think that because they are choreographers they make you feel that each one of them is dancing in a different world alone .. I don't think this is the way we should feel when we watch a performance... "Funky" is one of the best ways to describe this song. No shade to music produced digitally but you just CANNOT replicate the power of live instruments. It's the tempo of the drums, the soulful slap of the base and layering of keyboards, guitars, strings and horns for me. The power of live instruments is unmatched. This song gave me MJ vibes from beginning to end. His whole album is a cross genre bop. He delved into different genres for this album and his sound is different with every song. The dance performance video allows you to focus just on him. His outfit screams MJ all the way. He just released a dance choreo in the studio video. He said when he heard this song, he could see himself performing this song before he even had the choreo or sang a note. They don’t cal him the golden Maknae for nothing. He really can do anything and at this point, sing anything. From the build up at the beginning and smooth transition and bass just makes this an instant bop. PS: One of the choreographers is dancing with him and he kind of hand picked these guys. Nick did the Butter choreo for 3J so he respects these dancers.

You're right about that vibe... no one can resist moving along to that funky beat... when I heard this, suddenly I was thinking Motown, Chic, Nile Rodgers, Kool & the Gang, Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Sly & The Family Stone, and not just MJ... I mean, there's so much of that funky goodness coming forth here... the face is different, but the music most definitely lives on! You can hear it in the beat of the drums, the rhythm of the guitar, that funky bass, and all of that brass! He is totally paying homage to MJ!! He's called the "Prince of Pop" for a reason haha the video is so MJ and Romeo&Juliet coded and wonderful.... His whole album is varied and so fabulous!! I’ve probably played his remixes of this song even more than the original. They are great: a slow jam, a PR&B, live band, and more. Remixes are usually sped up etc. But these are awesome. Back in Feb Diana Ross who was a friend of MJ posted the following on her website about Jungkook - “I really like his songs and his videos. MJ is coming through all of the moves. I just think he’s great! I like the dancers too. All of the dancers are fantastic.”

Great reaction! I have been a lover of the funky groove since the 70's, when Bass and Drums! was at its finest height. JK made this song his homage to MJ and he nailed it, he is flexing his 3+ octaves vocal range, his perfect pitch and his hella sexy and smooth dance moves. A delight for the ears and eyes, this man has it all. Standing next to you is getting a hell of a workout on my playlist. Also, that Background Dancer with the manbun in the grey outfit, oh Lord have mercy!

To me “Standing Next to You” hits a WILD Venn diagram overlap of like, Bruno Mars/Silk Sonic funk, and something a bit Harry Styles (definitely more on Fine Line than his most recent album), and then the MJ-inspired choreo. It’s a very on-trend sound but it also pays some real homages, something that BTS and their production teams are so good at balancing. And Jung Kook is such a vocal chameleon that he can pull this off alongside the BTS discography _and_ the other genres and tempos he explores on the album. It’s my favourite of the three singles he put out for the record tbh! But I’m also a sucker for the funky bass and drums. Speaking of which! If you’re looking for a BTS song you probably haven’t heard before (and thanks so much for being honest about which songs/videos you’ll react to and why btw!), I’d check out “Pied Piper” from Love Yourself: Her (2017). It’s an electrofunk pop masterpiece in my opinion, and one of the songs that made me have to stop and listen hard when I was first shuffling through their discography as a baby Army.

I don't think you caught this but towards the end of the song when he is gyrating and dancing his ass off, he was doing those little MJ respirations/panting as ad-libs and it gives me goosebumps every time. It blended into the instrumentation so well that I didn't notice it at first either!! Loved the video!
