Does Jeran realize that Stellarium uses the heliocentric model in it's source code?
@ottomaddoxx53605 ай бұрын
Yeah, it uses J2000. I saw a "debate" with Witsit where he tried to claim that Stellarium is based on flat earth. So, on my other channel, I made a one minute video tutorial for how to use Stellarium to go to the moon and look at Earth from the moon.
@michaeldamolsen5 ай бұрын
I just wanted to mention that "the heliocentric model" is a collection of different models, which each model different things in different coordinate systems. Some of these coordinate systems are centred on the Sun or the barycentre of the solar system (which is always close to the Sun) while others are centred on the centre of mass of the Earth, or on the Earth-Moon barycentre (which is always somewhere inside the Earth), or on the observer which for most of us is of course also very close to Earth. The orientations of the various coordinate systems also differ, with heliocentric calculations often being in the ecliptic (the fundamental plane of the coordinate system coincides with the plane in which the Earth orbits the Sun), and geocentric coordinates typically being in the equatorial system (the fundamental plane aligns with the Earth equator, the rotation axis being perpendicular to this plane), and horizontal coordinates are (as the name suggests) aligned with the observer's horizon, which is defined as 90 degrees from the observer zenith point (thus it is not exactly the observable horizon, but rather a geometrical construct). Spherical coordinates are latitudinal and longitudinal, just like coordinates on Earth. Thus the latitudinal coordinate is the angle above or below the fundamental plane. In the longitudinal direction, the coordinate origin is taken to be due north (or more commonly in the past due south) in the horizontal coordinate system. In the equatorial and ecliptic coordinate systems, the origin of longitudinal coordinates is the point in the sky where the two fundamental planes of these two systems intersect. That makes transformations between the two systems easier to calculate. However, both the equatorial and the ecliptic fundamental planes wobble over time, due to precession and nutation, so the coordinate frames themselves are moving (rotating) over time. Therefore it is important to note the moment in time at which the coordinate system is defined. Typically this is midnight 1st of January 2000, denoted as J2000.0 in shorthand. Thus, J2000.0 is not a coordinate system, but rather a parameter which defines the orientation of the ecliptic and equatorial coordinate systems. It is commonly referred to as the epoch of the coordinates. Interestingly, only the transformations from equatorial to horizontal coordinates take the shape of the Earth into account. All the other calculations don't care. As for heliocentrism, the calculations of the positions of solar system objects are simpler when expressed in helio- or bary-centric coordinates. But as mentioned, those positions are then transformed to geocentric as part of the process of figuring out the positions in the sky local to the observer. The fact that the calculations are simpler in heliocentric coordinates can (and should) of course be taken as a strong indication that this is the "natural" frame of reference when discussing how the solar system objects move, which makes perfect sense to those of us believing in gravity as the cause of planetary motions. Further indications are offered by parallax and aberration calculations being directly dependent on the Earth's position and velocity as it orbits the Sun.

It's confirmation bias. If Lindsay was talking about something like baking a cake, and Jeran knew how to bake a cake, Jeran would immediately call Lindsey out for being a bullpoop salesman. But because Jeran really needs an explanation and he doesn't understand a single word Lindsey is saying (mostly because Lindsey is speaking 99% nonsense), he'll give Lindsey the benefit of the doubt, and even pretend to agree to some extent because he doesn't want to lose face with the people who think Lindsey is a super genius. The bit about the compass needle dipping is stupidly easy to debunk; manufacturers supply two variants of compasses; one with a weighted south-pole, for use in the northern hemisphere, and one with a weighted north-pole, for use in the southern memisphere. The weights are there to counteract the dipping of the needle when you get closer to the poles.

At noon surely it should be possible to see the Sun reflected off the top of the toroid, and much lower down off the toroid to the South you.
