I like that both Salvatore brothers were what Elena needed. People can fight over team Stelena vs team Delena, but at the end of the day BOTH brothers were good for her. Damon was the only one who would go far enough to get the job done. He'd do all the heavy lifting and be the bad guy if that's what it took. Like he said in season 2, "I don't mind being the bad guy. I'll make all the life and death decisions, while your busy worry about collateral damage. I'll even let her hate me for it. But at the end of the day, I'll be the one to keep her alive." And it's true. Damon did whatever was necessary to get Elena to flip her humanity back on. She needed that push, and damon was the only one willing to go that far. As for Stefan, for lack of a better phrase, did infact worry about the collateral damage. He helped Elena with her emotions once they were turned back on. She needed someone who could help her deal with it, and Stefan was the only one who could help her through it. Because he's experienced it a lot more. Elena needed both brothers, one who was willing to go however far for her, and one who was willing to help her pick up the pieces afterwards. Forget Stelena/Delena for a moment, they all need each other.

Exactly... no one else would've killed Matt to push her over the edge and stopped in a sense "coddling" her besides Damon (and Katherine doesn't care enough about Elena to go that far, like she proved), but no one else would know how to get her through the onslaught of emotions she faced in the aftermath like Stefan and be empathetic enough to not just be rough about it. Damon legit looks over to Stefan bc even they understood who was best for which part of getting her humanity back, and you see Stefan's shock and then acceptance when he realizes Damon had the foresight to give Matt the ring... proving Damon had thought it through. They BOTH got her her humanity back, but people love to be so blindly biased about either side that they hilariously ignore that. I mentioned this before on another of Jer's videos but this is truly why I love how reactors aren't as sensitively biased as the fandom and they just roll with the punches of the show clearly understanding what's going on without bias.

I love the moment of Elena turning back on her humanity not only cause of Nina's acting (that breathe as she realizes Matt is okay is everything) but also because it shows how strong her connection with Matt is. For all the team stefan and team damon fans this moment is about Elena's relationship with Matt, because ultimately it is seeing Matt dead hat brings her humanity back. Matt and Elena's friendship in the series is one of my favorites and I think it speaks a lot about how his character changes after a certain point but i won't get into spoilers. But yes, it was nice to see the writers have it be because of Matt and not just one of the brothers cause that seems like an easy option. Plus made for a nice twist scare in the episode.

the amount of times jeremy said "snap her sh*t again" between this episode and the last lmfao 😂 also i loved rebekah in this episode, i feel like either it wasn't really intentional or maybe supppper overlooked by viewers, but this episode was rebekah just being human (aside form her flexing that she knew italian lol) and i felt like it was really nice to see her just be this chill study buddy to the only purely human character right after all she went through wanting the cure and to be human again. not even involved in the main plot, but kind of commentating and just looking out for matt. felt like a sneak peak to what rebekah's involvement would've been like had she actually gotten the cure in the last few episodes, and it made me almost wish she had bc i love "human" her here.
