personally i feel like a good spin off has to stand alone. it can’t rely on its parent show. if people watch only The Originals without watching The Vampire Diaries first, they’d probably wonder about their parents, so i think it kind of makes sense to bring them back for the time being. but i definitely get your argument as well.

my favorite kill had to be hayley killing genevieve. i didn’t mind her character but she definitely died when she should have, and i’m so glad hayley was the one who got to do it.

If you browse The Originals subreddit (theirs spoilers don't) so many people never watched TVD before, they needed to bring back other members of The Original's family it's a different show. For the spin-off to be great it has to be its own thing it can't rely on the other show to explain things or it will live in its shadow and prevent it from being good on its OWN. I understand if you disagree but I wanted to explain why they did it, not everyone watched TVD who watched TO

I talked my best friend into watching TVD and she couldn’t get past the first season, so I told her to give The Originals a shot and she liked it, Plus, I didn’t like how Mikael and Kol died in TVD. There was so much to explore with the entire family, so I was happy they brought back their parents.

I agree. Elijah stole the season. He had some amazing scenes. Klaus's scene taking down all those vampires before Marcel picks up the coin. It's just badass and the way they used the camera for it was chef's kiss.

On a show called the Originals you can’t not have the original parents. I’m pretty sure when they were introduced in TVD the writers didn’t know they’d do a spinoff and had to rush through storylines they would’ve saved for this.

This is a great recap! For funniest scene I liked some of Cami’s dialogue. Like the scene between her, Klaus, and Marcel when Marcel learns she is compelled by Klaus. Or when she goes to see Klaus and says something to Genevieve.

The amount of compulsion they would have to use to abolish slavery would astronomical. Plus with all the Vampires, Wolves and Witches there are waaaaaay too many variables that are not able to be compelled! Also it was mentioned in TVD that the Lockwoods were slave owners, and they were immune to compulsion. It’s not the vamps fault that they couldn’t end slavery.
