i also like it even though i like delena i'd imagine she was like this before the show started, before her parents died and all this grief and no sense of normalcy because in the beginning i remember caroline (or some other of her friends) saying how much she's changed since her parents died and how she's not as cheerful anymore etc. which is why i think elena and stefan were drawn to each other because they were both down and brooding so it's always a breath of fresh air to see elena or stefan be happy and have fun

Elena having the memory erased removed the suffering of the loss of Damon Elena returned before her parents died, more fun and light, carefree even if I believe that what actually lightens her is not so much not having memories about Damon but as much as the fact that with Alaric she was able to admit and be able to tell someone she loved Damon since she was with Stefan and her subconscious knows this by taking the weight off her by making her free of remorse and guilt of having loved two boys and hurting the two and others for his choices.

i agree i do like the ship and find it a good friend to lovers story but i always felt caroline felt way more/was more involved and that's why it's not my favorite (but i do still like it) and i get other ships like delena and even klaroline can be seen as that way too but with delena it shifted season 3/4 where elena was just as involved if not more (because i feel like damon was the one that wanted to cut things off more than elena) & klaroline though klaus was more chasing her there was always this unspoken sexual attraction from the JUMP where you knew caroline liked him but was trying to hold herself back stefan almost feels like he only likes her platonically sometimes while she's the one with major feelings which i do agree platonic love is a great foundation but i never felt much sexual attraction from his side versus his other flings/relationships
