I finished my service but I love seeing this, I was borderline homeless before the military. Finished my service, got my bachelors for free while getting a allowance and having a blast in college. Got a great job after. If you take advantage of the benefits, the military is an amazing foundation to jump start your life regardless of the cards dealt to you financially.

@thespadestable Жыл бұрын
@creigiihtondenynis39 - You made that money while living in one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. That's like someone being stationed in Brooklyn, NY (San Fransico is approx. 5% more expensive) and trying to flex that they made $100k in a year. But, when someone with at least a little common sense did some research, it can easily be determined the money was made via base pay (rank/time in service), separate rations, BHA*, and maybe the addition of special duty pay. But take them off of special duty, and PCS them to a place like Oklahoma, Kansas, Alabama, they won't be making anywhere near $100k. You get the extra money to help cushion the high cost of living in specific areas. Nothing more, nothing less. * BHA w/dependents - $44,208yr. (E-6), $50,652yr. (O-3) Rent alone for a 3 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, NY can start at $38,500yr. and up a month.

A lot of people undervalue their compensation package in the armed forces of the US. I had to start civil service as a GS11 just to equate (with my pension) what I made on active duty. I left civil service two years ago and dont make near what I did on active duty (hold several academic degrees).

For me it was a 50% cut while transitioning from AD to civil service. When I retired GS 3 years ago, I took a major cut (60%), but that's ok as I now have two pensions. My pensions and corporate salary have me at 70% of my GS pay, but since Im saving less, I dont notice much of a difference. Because they can't use it. On top of that you still have to deal with military treatment. Let's say I'm the best military dude on the planet, not Rambo or anything just a really squared away guy, do my job, never get in trouble, always look professional. Watching this in 2023 makes me wish I had taken the opportunity to convert to AGR 2 years ago when I had the chance… BAH is much better and ends up making me more money than technician or comparable civilian jobs (without overtime)
@nathanlampkin6511 Жыл бұрын
What is AGR?
@mauriciogarcia4190 Жыл бұрын
@@nathanlampkin6511 AGR stands for ACTIVE GUARD RESERVE. It’s basically a full time position in a guard base under orders. There is also what’s called a technician which is a full time job at a guard base under title 32 which pays you as a civilian (not ACTIVE ORDERS) and has a slightly different set of benefits. It’s a good way of making more money especially in certain career fields as a junior enlisted but if you live in a higher cost of living area it just makes more sense to “convert” to AGR so you can make more money by the time you make E-6. The technician pay plateaus. Whereas AGR is like active duty and continues to grow in a linear manner. On top of that, title 32 has to work 30 years to earn a retirement. Obviously active duty/AGR is only 20.

What happens if u live off base could u still get free food when u go to the food court
@JeremiahPeoples3 күн бұрын
Nope you gotta pay for it. When you live off base they give your BAS your food allowance in cash. When you live on base that allowance is automatically deducted from your pay
