The ban on neonic's is one thing that can be agreed on, is a good thing. They are non species specific. Even Bee's who pollinate the crops can be affected and killed off. Killing off a beetle with neonic's, and then killing off the pollinators means next year you have less bee's to bring the fruit growth on. This is why farming needs additional R&D support. These problems can be fixed with a chemical, that creates a detrimental knock on effect down the line that can be cumulative. There are other solutions, but those solutions have consequences as well. It's all about balancing the systems to get what you need out of it without buggering up the systems ability to produce as much next year... And mother nature is always giving a boon, or a hinderance to that goal that you have to be knowledgeable of in how to work around the problem.

@@oscarosullivan4513 well not really, he said something a bit extreme, because he was angry at someone, and he was just speaking his mind, but ooh no, apparently saying someone should have faeces thrown at them is misogynistic and racist, these people saying that should go and ask a Ukrainian man who has been shot fighting for his freedom if he cares, they should ask a Syrian Child who’s home has been blown up do they care, they should ask a starving family in Somalia suffering the worst drought in decades do they care, honestly I’m sick of this bullshit of getting offended at something that pales in comparison to true racism and misogyny, it’s stupid, it’s useless, it doesn’t benefit humanity in anyway and it draws attention from the real issues going on in the world. Yes he shouldn’t have said it but it wasn’t “Misogynistic” or “Racist” it was just someone saying something publicly they should of kept to themselves and now it has the chance to ruin their career. Also Jeremy is known for exaggerating his hate over things like in the Grand Tour. Anyone who is fighting over this should shut up and go do something that benefits society. Also I’m not agreeing with Clarkson, he shouldn’t of said those things it was wrong but the reaction has been too extreme. Also Meghan could of easily fired back with some thing like: I hate Jeremy Clarkson, I hate him more than I hate Kanye West, I dream of him being hung naked publicly in the middle of London with it being broadcast live and his naked dead body dragged around the roads of England by a Toyota Prius, and it would be bad yes but we can’t stop either of them because that’s free speech. Yes it’s bad and extreme, but you can ignore it or fire back. We need to Cop-on as a society and tackle real racism, and really misogyny, not some random bullshit a TV host said in an article. Rant finished.

Coating seeds is a terrible, terrible thing, not just for the environment, but for farming itself also. This is a terrible thing for a farmer to learn that a field has been attacked this way, don't get me wrong. But, it doesn't just kill the beetles. It also prevent all the pollinators from coming to your farm and kills many of them in the process. And guess what, if you have no pollinator, you have no crop - at all. And this is just the known part of the iceberg. Coating seeds probably have many more effects on soil nutrients that we don't even know about yet. Plus, after a couple of years, the said beetle will have evolved to not be affected by the said-coating. The pollinators, on the other hand, will all have been gone forever. This is always how it goes. If you have a parasite in your field, you will have to use intelligence to get rid of it, not petrochemicals. Clarkson seems to portrait the problem as one-sided, but it is not. There are ways to make sure that the beetle will not be there. One of the being to not do a monoculture... Conventional monoculture is the main problem here. Not to mention all the problems it causes pollution-wise. As for the weather, well... He should know that with all the CO2 that he so very loves to pump into the air with his big cars, this is just the beginning of what he's gonna get. One year it's going to be just rain, the other one, no rain at all... But I guess talking about "climate changes" was not part of the equation. Because Lamborghini or some other stupid skit...

Standard for many farmers. "The whole field is dead, though shit." There is a reason so many landowners just started keeping sheep during the industrial revolution.

Someone should make a series or atleast a documentary on farmers plight in India. Not trying to disregard the dismay caused by the excess rains here in this video, but in India it is far more extreme than what you just saw. Torrential rains that would start flash floods across the regions, these floods will wash way the fertile layer of the soil which has all the organic content required by the plants and is CRITICAL for the plants to grow/sustain and this would be the LEAST of the farmer's problems as he would be busy trying to survive the rain/flood. On the contrary, the draughts here are even worse, which I cannot even describe how bad it gets.

You guys should use ducks to free range the fields in the day time, they will eat the bugs for you, rain or shine and fertilize the soil at the same time, produce eggs ( which are bigger and have more nutritional value than chicken eggs) then you can use them and the meat for your restaurant. Farm raised, grain fed free range ducks taste different and more flavorful than wild ducks. You could even incubate some eggs or let the ducks hatch baby’s to keep the cycle going!! If your grains get wet and you can’t sell them you can ferment them in barrels for a few days or week then feed to the ducks so there isn’t any wasted grains!!!!

I love the reaction to the beetle... It is so painfully true because most dont realise that is what pests can do. We farmers dont mind (our live freaking depends on) bio diversity but we hate pests.....

Jeremy - this is Farming, It's a delight to see how shocked you are at how hard it is - it's OK because Only people who live in towns and cities need your food - and given that they are miles away you won't hear the bastard Greenies dying. Next year harvest the black beetles Patties. The greenies will love them.
