Pyramus K Typical idiot comment. What does 'supposed' mean? Supposed by who? Supposed by you, presumably. Can you tell me why cats and dogs are presumably not 'supposed to be slaughtered'? Or is it only the creatures that you in your wisdom choose? Animals are our fellow inhabitants of this planet, whom we should treat with love and respect. But of course it takes a minimal amount of intelligence and empathy; minimal but far more than you are ever likely to have. In fact, if the height of your reasoning is who or what lives for your 'pleasure' then there is no hope that you would ever have even a glimmering of understanding of such concepts as the pain and fear suffered by others, let alone 'intelligence' and 'empathy'.
@Magyar_Huszar6 жыл бұрын

But of course it takes a minimal amount of intelligence and ampathy; minimal but far more than you are ever likely to have. Cuz you don't see them suffer Next time you call a comment idiotic think before you comment
@PatrickMcAsey6 жыл бұрын
Magyar Huszar A plant isn't an 'inhabitant'. An inhabitant is a person or animal that lives in or occupies a place, and a plant is neither a person nor an animal - or didn't you realise this? You seem to have a problem distinguishing between animals and plants. Don't worry! Just look below. Furthermore, the word is 'empathy' and not 'ampathy' as you have it. I think your misspelling of this word shows how familiar you are with empathy, doesn't it? And, by the way, while on the topic of writing, you should learn how to punctuate. You will find that it will make what you write much easier to read. Surely, you learnt how to punctuate at school? 1. In case you hadn't noticed it, plants are not sentient beings. They are alive, but they have no consciousness or central nervous system. Strange, isn't it, how meat eaters, who couldn't give a damn about animal suffering, suddenly become aware that 'plants have feelings'? And if this nonsense were true then it would be an even stronger argument not to eat animals. The animal food industry consumes vast amounts of plant food. If everyone ate plant food then vastly fewer plants would be eaten. 2. I am just as concerned about the trade in pets as I am about the way we treat animals that are eaten, and indeed about the shameful way we treat all animals, be they 'farm animals', pets or any kind of animal life. Have you watched 'Earthlings'? You should. It begins with the pet industry. The majority of people who eat meat could never slaughter an animal themselves - many can't even bear to watch videos of animals in slaughterhouses - and yet they are OK with others doing the slaughtering for them. I call this hypocrisy. You know as well as I do that animal slaughter is a filthy, cruel business, that no civilised person should have anything to do with it, and that the vast animal slaughter puts us to shame as a species. I believe that one day, when we have become a rather more humane species than we are, it will be illegal to kill any animal, but that will be far far into the future. Just as slavery took a long time to be made illegal (but is still with us in all but name), so will animal slaughter,

Living in L.A. and having tried both real burgers and the impossible burger, there is definitely a difference between them- the impossible burger, while it tastes similar to a burger, tastes as if someone figured out a way to describe the flavour of meat and described it to someone who has never eaten meat before, who then made the closest possible approximation. It definitely does not taste exactly like meat, but it's close. Even without the burger being 10-hours old, it would still be noticeable. Just a side note, although I prefer real meat, the flavour of the Impossible burger is actually quite nice in my opinion.

@Rob Flynn - The point is simply to provide an alternative/substitute to meat, of which there are numerous reasons for doing so. Quorn is a high protein low fat alternative to meat, and for this reason I know people who consume meat who also consume Quorn. Quorn is only one of a number of different alternatives though. The general consensus is that Quorn is a bland product and subpar in comparison to meat, but as someone who has only ever been vegetarian I have no experience of consuming meat to compare with. I am satisfied with it more than most meat eaters would probably be for that exact reason... I am not comparing it to something else, I am taking it for what it is. Some Quorn products such as slices are flavoured but the majority of Quorn I consume in main meals such as chunks and mince don't really taste of anything, and with these products I find my food tastes great because of the accompaniment of flavourings and spices. If I just had a bowl of quorn with nothing else I'd be pretty bored pretty fast.
@oof88507 жыл бұрын
Quorn is highly processed though. If you became vegetarian for the health benefits, you'd be better off eating real meat than Quorn
@DylanLenn7 жыл бұрын
+GlitterBuzz Better off eating real meat than quorn products? Somehow you think a combination of soy, wheat, potatoes, onions, garlic, other natural flavors, spices, and herbs are more unhealthy than corpses? One meta-analysis for example found that vegans have 15% less total cancer. This is following a standard vegan diet that includes processed and heavily refined foods so it is hard to see what effects a whole food vegan diet would have on cancer levels. But it is clear that reducing exposure to preservatives and toxins in general are good for preventing cancer. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26853923

According to a scientific study, eating meat will instantly give you cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Not only that, a split second later, you will be obese. Veganism also extends our lifetime by a few millennia. It is impossible to be healthy with a diet consisting of meat as it will shorten your life span by 50% as all meat is processed with added sugar, trans-fat etc. Processed meat is the only form of meat. The only reason healthy meat-eaters exist is that they don't as while they look healthy they are actually rotting away on the inside. Anybody who has lived long and ate meat was just because they were lucky and got beneficial vegan genes, the only thing keeping them alive, just like that smoking 90-year-old grandma we all have seen before.

For me the main reason for making lab grown meat is to be able to enjoy meat without supporting the side effects of the meat industry, such as global warming and bad animal conditions. There’s nothing wrong with eating meat, I do it, I just think people should understand about the energy that is wasted when growing animals compared to growing plants, as well as the greenhouse gases they release such as methane and CO2. Its tiring to see people treat vegetarianism as dumb when there are real environmental benefits to avoiding meat.

Here's a short story about one of my vegetarian friend. She was travelling in Finland at one point and one evening I receive a call from her and she asks "Hey you understand finnish language?". I said yes I do and so she says "I was pretty hungry and wanted to get something to eat and there was this shop selling some very nice looking pies. I didn't understand what the sign said but I bought one and am eating it right now and, I honestly will say this, I have never ever eaten anything this good before! Taste is absolutely incredible but I cannot quite place the flavor and I don't know what the sign said, what does "lihapiirakka" mean?" So I told her, "Well, you as a life-long vegetarian will be pleased to know that this pie, which you so much like and which tastes absolutely incredible is a meat pie, that's what that word means". There was a long moment of silence, followed by ".. well, it tastes so good, so I will not waste food and will eat it!" Note that I am not a vegetarian myself, although there's one point which needs to be cleared for vegetarians about non-vegetarians, because they don't seem to get it otherwise - we do NOT eat just and only meat. We are not carnivores as such, but by definition omnivores. Meaning that we eat all, this includes plants and meat. I do like a piece of good steak, who doesn't? But I don't munch on it alone, I have some fries or fried potatoes with it which, by the way, are "plants". I may have some salad on the side which is made also from plants. I add some sauce on it or on the side and all of those sauces are made pretty much from plants. Every now and then I may just eat some salad as a light snack and have no meat in it at all. Point is, we the "meat eaters" don't eat only meat, we eat "plants" too, difference is we're not faking who we are and are not trying to "lure" and "cheat" others into "our way". We accept that you have different taste and are fine with it, so please be polite and return the courtesy. Only reason a vegetarian can get some angry responses from non-vegetarian is because they're trying "forcefully" to recruit someone into their "religion".

Reason why vegs would want plant-based meat replicas is because their whole life they have been eating meats and they have nostalgia. The reason they go veggie or vegan is not because they suddenly started hating on the taste of meat but rather for health and ethical reasons. plus when u just start veganism it can be hard to assimilate into veg diet so foods like that help you out. it like eating what you love most but with clear conscience. for instance,my fav food was kfc so now i love to enjoy kentucky fried compassion instead. plus, beyond meat burgers are 10x better than impossible - he should have tried that one first... also he is massively sponsored by meat industries so don't expect honest reviews from him.

@@nicholasavasthi9879 Wanna know why? Cause those "Meat-like" products are usually full of Soy beans. Soy beans contain a lot of estrogens which can absolutely fuck up men's testosterone levels. Which can destroy their mentality, body and masculinity. I think that's good enough of a reason.
@DueySR4 жыл бұрын
@@R1kSen Just as you shouldn't eat beef burgers every day, you also shouldn't eat plant-based burgers every day. You ever seen what happens when you eat too much real beef burgers? You get obese. Obesity destroys your mentality, body, and confidence, does it not? Just as the threat of obesity is a really shitty argument against eating a single beef burger, the threat of "absolutely fucked up testosterone levels" is an even shittier argument against eating a plant-based burger. Too much of anything is unhealthy, and this isn't supposed to be a healthy meal, it's just supposed to be a vegetarian substitute for beef burgers. Eating a plant-based burger every once in a while (say, once a month) will do absolutely NOTHING to your testosterone levels. I'd also like to point out that your main premise that soy contains tons of estrogen that fucks with your hormones... isn't true. It doesn't have zero effect on human hormone levels, but it doesn't have anywhere near the impact you think it does. _"Soy is unique in that it contains a high concentration of isoflavones, a type of plant estrogen (phytoestrogen) that is similar in function to human estrogen but with much weaker effects. Soy isoflavones can bind to estrogen receptors in the body and cause either weak estrogenic or anti-estrogenic activity."_ The famous medical case that instilled this fear of soy into the general public is the case of James Price. He had painful swollen breasts, his facial hair thinned, he lost hair, and he couldn’t get erections and his libido disappeared. His estrogen levels were 8 times higher than normal. Many months, dozens of tests, and multiple doctors later, and nobody could find out what was wrong with him. Eventually a doctor asked what he put in his cereal… he said soy milk. Aha! Soy is the devil, right? Well turns out this dude was drinking THREE LITRES OF SOY MILK PER DAY. How many fuckin plant burgers do you think you’d have to eat before your testosterone levels became “absolutely fucked up”? For our purposes, we’ll define “absolutely fucked up testosterone levels” as the case of James Price, as his symptoms sound pretty fucked up to me, and we'll attribute this solely to 3 litres of soy milk per day (although he was likely consuming more soy in other foods, so this is actually underestimating his total soy intake). The type of estrogen in soy is called isoflavones, and soymilk contains 25mg of isoflavones per 250mL. So we can estimate that James Price was consuming at least 300mg of isoflavones per day. Now understand that _“one 4-oz serving of the Impossible Burger contains under 2mg of isoflavones.”_ Theoretically you’d have to eat 150+ plant burgers a day to absolutely fuck up your testosterone levels. At that point, testosterone levels would be your last concern. You’d be fucking dead. Of course, this is a vast oversimplification of how estrogen works, it’s different for every person, and above all: clinical studies have shown that soy doesn’t lower testosterone levels and doesn’t adversely affect sperm or semen. Not only do I have no clue what you’re talking about, you don’t either. Good day, sir. The clinical studies as previously referred to: Messina M. Here's the contradiction about these fake burgers: they are made from plant protein isolate (e.g. pea and/or soy) and some sort of seed oil (e.g. canola, soy) that are the products of unsustainable mass mono-crop agricultural practices that require endless fossil fuel derived fertilizer, endless irrigation, and that slowly but surely destroy the top soil. Factory farming of grain fed beef is no better, makes a less healthy product (meat that is stripped of omega-3), and makes the animals sick to boot. BUT: pasture raised, grass fed beef, raised as natural ruminants, are the exact opposite. They are part of the virtuous sustainable cycle that we call "life", as old as evolution itself, that builds top soil, feeds the very perennial grasses that the animals consume, and creates healthy animal food products. The fake meat products are a regression, the real "Beyond Meat" or "Impossible burger" product that we should all be striving for is one that simply returns beef to its natural ruminant state.

I would put it to you that perhaps you could be the one who doesn't eat things designed for vege/vegan folk and stick to eating what you like, while letting others eat what they like. Meat substitutes often allow people to get the same enjoyment from eating a meal designed around the same recipe that you perhaps would eat, with just a substitute for the meat part. Why you would infer that others should not be able to eat something because you think it is weird is beyond me.
