The American changed the spelling of aluminium because they cant pronounce it
@Tjalve704 жыл бұрын
Actually the American spelling of aluminum is 2 years older than the British spelling of aluminium. So this is probably the ONLY instance of a word having two different spellings, and the Americans using the older one, and the British using the younger one.
@Kirgwagames4 жыл бұрын
@@Tjalve70 how could the American prononciation be older since aluminium is used in England since way before the US even existed and was called aluminium back then too ? Gdniune question I'm not that informed
@Jonsson4744 жыл бұрын
@@Kirgwagames Sorry but you’re wrong. Aluminium was named and discovered in the 19th century. The compound Alum was however known since the 5th century BC.
@WeLhOOse4 жыл бұрын
@@Kirgwagames they are right the American way is older but it wasn’t created by an American. It was a Brit called sir Humphry Davy who originally called it alumium, then aluminum and finally settled on aluminium. The latter was named by the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Sciences) as the international standard for spelling the word in 1990.

lol. As an American, Clarkson is hardly wrong on most of these. I love his humor. "They call a liquid Gas." Plus, I love the irony that Clarkson is actually more American than Hammond. He's fat, he's obnoxious, he's jingoistic, he thinks he's right about everything, all he can do to fix things is hit them with a hammer. What's more American than that?
