After winning the prestigious Polaris Music Prize back in 2018 for his debut album, Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa, Jeremy Dutcher is back with his long-awaited sophomore record, Motewolonuwok. Dutcher sits down with Tom Power to talk about the pressure of writing his second record when his first was so successful, how he directed his trumpeter to "play grief," and why he's decided to sing partly in English on his new album.

Fantastic interview. Jeremy is one of a kind. The reason why people connected is because music is universal language. My mother is from New Brunswick and that's how I heard about him first. Genuineness can be felt. I was at the show in Quebec City last week and he spoke French to us and everyone was so overjoyed and supportive. Then, it was Take my Hand, and I cried. I don't really know or understand why but a lot of us did. What a special, wonderful human being.

I heard Jeremy at the Montreal Jazz Festival 2024. I was thrilled to hear he was performing there since I've loved his music since I heard his first album via CBC. Thanks for this wonderful interview with such a talented individual.

I was lucky to hear him perform Skicinuwihkuk live on June 28th in Fredericton near the banks of the Wolastoq river. He is a true gift.

The first time I was introduced to Jeremy’s music was in a Two-Spirit Gathering, and my soul cried of happiness.

Tom you are such a great interviewer and listener....Woliwon/thanks for such a great in-depth discussion. I love learning more about my son and the special work he is doing to honour our Woalstoqey language and people.

Wonderful interview. I don't see how Jeremy can say he's not an orator! As an opera singer, you're telling a story with cadence and pacing. Very similar. I found myself writing out several quotes from this interview. I've listened/watched a lot from this album and I need to hear more.
