As a matter of fact, the unrated, or R-rated, version is on Peacock right now. It's definitely worth seeing.

It was filmed to be (R) The kills are bloodier and there's more ADULT language. When the dance went viral, it blew up, especially with younger audiences. So a last minute re-edit was done for a (PG-13) rating. The (R) will be available streaming or it may even get a limited theatrical release.

@@jerms6642 lmao imagine having a different opinion, this movie has objectively the same stupid main characters that every “horror” movie has if you can even call this horror. Did you actually ever get scared or care about anyone at all in the film other than the little girl, who mind you is always being protected by Megan. So the film would have been so much better if they pulled more into what they were going for but they didn’t, the main character was terrible, you can’t deny she is just stupid, for someone who created this insane AI that is going to “change the world” she has zero common sense. No fail safe, makes terrible decisions to further the plot. It’s just bad writing. I watched Puss and Boots last night and WOW what a difference in quality of writing and directing. Every scene had meaning and purpose with wonderfully written characters. If you want to see a real movie, watch the new puss and boots and I’m not being sarcastic. It literally is GOLD. I hope we can at least agree on this point.

See that's when horror is at its best is its campiness, and the ones that embrace it do well. The ones that try to be serious the have an over the top death scene that you can see the greenscreen or edit because they didn't have the budget you just go really you need to lean in to make that work.

It was an interesting concept. I didn't really find M3GAN scary in the trailer but she's scarrier in the movie, mostly because she gets progressively smarter. This movie is a social satire more than anything. I liked its self-awareness and the "family vs career" topic.

Upgrade, Invisible Man, and M3gan. It appears Blumhouse is the new king of techno horror/thrillers. I don't mind it either. Late 80's/early 90's had versions of it like Hardware, Lawnmower Man, and Ghost in the Machine (1993), but they were nowhere near as polished as these films. Or it could just be poor acting and writing. This actress Allison Williams kinda had two states the entire time. Either a subtle grin on her face, or she'd be expressionless which didn't suit the events that happened to her. The movie was silly.

Don’t bother seeing it, there is 20 min of Megan actually doing something while the rest is terrible character dialogue that takes you out of the movie completely. You will be saying to yourself that this is a massive waste of your time after 40 min of sitting down watching it. It is boring, slow, terrible character choices and dialogue and literally Megan does something interesting prob 3 times in the movie and it’s at the end. And by that time your already turned your brain off from all the idiotic decisions made by the main character it feels like the writers either tried making a stupid character or they are just stupid themselves. I don’t recommend this movie to anyone over 14 because it is a snooze fest with a 20 min black mirror feature.

That screen was pretty good but like... it kind of fucks the film's message. Megan doing that was actually a good example of parenting and the main female lead basically goes... "oh shit this robot is actually doing a better job then maybe and is clearly more emotionally invested in nurturing this kid." It makes Megan to human basically and thus loses the message that machines can only do so much in raising a kid. Instead it just comes down to "yeah this robot is fucking murderous for no reason, we gotta get rid of it."

The comedy beats were actually really well done, the creepiness was very well done - when she rises out of the shadows, the slight modulation changes in her voice when she is being menacing, and the close ups on her eyes as she’s ALWAYS watching everything with a cold, calculating, alien intelligence. The emotional moments actually caught me off guard. Like, I legitimately started rooting for M3gan. Mild spoiler. All in all, it was a fun time and I wish it had a better ending; M3gan deserved to win. Funnily enough, the aunt “winning” was actually kind of losing. Saw it today. Pretty packed for a matinee. I think the movie worked well because Megan as a character worked and the pacing was great. Some surprising scenes like when they pitch Megan and Katy opens up about her feelings. I didn't expect that.

Saw the trailer a couple weeks ago and got to the part where she dog runs at somebody and immediatly burst out laughing. Thats when I knew I would have to watch it at some point. I like serious horror, but its increasingly difficult to pull off convincingly imo. When they go for a half measure, not full cheeseball shlock, but a self aware movie that can make me laugh out loud at the absurdity one minute and groan at something grotesque the next, I love that.

So you're saying a film that goes into strong storytelling as the root of the film will be a well-received movie? Huh, those films (especially in the horror genre) where story is first and foremost at the heart of the film, is so rare today.

From an entertainment point of view (rare now a day) makes sense to focus on the story, few things haven't been seen before in an horror movie, the remake of The Ring was one of those rare gems as well early 2000's.

@@UnboxingAlyss What I told my brother, maybe more on the fact that virtually nothing but horror movies have been coming out since covid, that horror movies have actually improved since covid. None of them being made since then, which I saw, focus on just the old trope of guy goes out and kills everybody with no story. I mean that was the MO for Halloween big time, and I didn't see the last one, but the prior one actually had a worthy story. It maybe wasn't all that appealing to the majority of the audience, and maybe I wasn't all that crazy about it either, but I DEFINITELY liked that at least they tried to develop a story and it wasn't along the usual Halloween lines of basically no story.

I went to see it January 8th and I saw it again. Then I seen it 5 times and I absolutely love this movie. ❤ ❤This is a movie that is so more damn good, you have to love the character herself for being, a bit scary, funny and can touch your heart (to make you cry). Unlike most horror icons, M3gan is the perfect example of balancing her personality and the movie (and never tries too hard to be over the top like Chucky and Freddy Krueger or being underrated like Candyman). And the fact that this is a PG 13 which is rare for a killer doll film (normally they would be rated R), but M3gan breaks this tradition and it feel more ground breaking for the horror/sci fi film. It's not all about drugs, sex, gore or vulgar language that most horror flick shouldn't be, it's about balancing the story that makes it work. This mostly was enjoyable to say the least, it was more of a thriller. I just love the character M3gan to bits (hope it's not too late to make her feel good in the sequel to give her a better protocol and to fix an exploding circuit). It's not a scary movie, but M3gan was a cinnamon roll who carried the film until the very end.

Nobody in their right mind could expect this to be as smart and funny as it is, idk what I was expecting really but it definitely surpassed any expectations I did have. It's more like a creepy thriller than straight up horror flick. I'd give it a 7.6/10 overall. I thoroughly enjoyed this flick. 👍

I'll give them a pass on using a 3 in M3GAN because it's actually a part of her full name as a android. I like your point about wanting to see a sequel for this series because about halfway through the movie I was wondering what a sequel could be like. Perhaps another kids story where they keep going along with the bad stuff M3GAN does. Or see someone later in life who grew up with the doll and how it had affected their lives. Would be very interesting.

I am surprised that you were so kind to this movie. The therapist was manipulative and overbearing, Katie went from 0 to psychopath in less than a day because of...attachment theory? Megan's self-awareness happened far too rapidly, plus, she became too human, or less robotic, too quickly as well. Hacking electronics was very creepily plausible, you are 100% right on that one. The fact that we both agree that this would've been a better rated R movie, means that the next award up would be buying it on blu-ray? I think the rated R version would've been the fun, with no alcohol required one. Chucky meets Terminator...at PG-13...that's too bad.
