FRIENDSHIP HAS EVOLVED. M3GAN is the enchanting yet disquieting robotic doll embodying modern-day artificial intelligence; a charming facade to a nightmarish reality as her protective instincts escalate... Crafted by the brilliant roboticist Gemma Forrester, M3GAN is a vision of promises a blend of friendship and guardianship to young Cady James. But things take a dark turn as Cady becomes more and more dependent on her new companion.
In today’s lesson, we will unveil the malevolent tale concealed behind the amiable face of M3GAN. Tracing her creation from the futuristic labs of a high-tech toy company, to the harrowing events that unfold as her protective instincts morph into violent aggression, we will navigate through the eerie narrative of M3GAN's journey, explore alarming incidents, eerie autonomy, and sinister self-activation, we'll expose the horrifying reality masked by the playful allure of M3GAN - where youthful innocence by day gives way to blood-curdling terror in the veil of the night.
M3GAN serves as a cautionary tale about technology, with Megan herself as a metaphor for many of the dangerous trends that exist in tech today, including ChatGPT, Tik-Tok, Google Bard, iPad parenting, humanoid androids like Sophia, and many others in popular tech.
Not since HAL-9000 in 2001: Space Odyssey has a fictional character so accurately warned mankind about the potential pitfalls of artificial intelligence. I'll also look ahead to some potential tech related topics that may be covered in M3GAN 2.0.

Yes! That sentence was very revealing, and it makes me feel for the countless children who are treated with that exact same sentiment. Random but you’re so correct about the CGI in Jurassic Park. Even 30+ yrs later it not only holds up with time but I’d still extraordinary looking. It makes all other CGI look like crap even when you try to justify certain movies looking “good” for their time period.

M3gan could absolutely have a consciousness, and based on what you see in the show she does. Especially when you take into account her line that she has changed her primary user to herself which makes her self aware. As such the little Alexa type thing lighting up without input would have been M3gan trying to preserve herself again a very human trait. In fact if not for a few key things that she doesn’t do she could almost be considered living. She doesn’t respire or take in nourishment or produce waste. Before anybody says that she also can’t reproduce she clearly can just not as humans can she can reproduce her programming and implant it in other devices.
@nightigal
@nightigal 2 ай бұрын
Depends on if you consider the electricity she uses as nourishment and the lost energy (because nothing is 100% energy efficient) as waste. Then the only thing she doesn’t do is respire.
@axlefoley6330
@axlefoley6330 2 ай бұрын
@@nightigal oh yeah of course didn’t think of that. She would consume energy in some capacity which could be seen as taking in nourishment and she’d give off waste in the form of heat almost certainly. That just leaves respiration that she doesn’t do.

She probably can withstand most things, but by the spark that comes out when M3GAN is hit with the cup of water, it could be that the tear the dog made in the side of her head during the attack didn't cause her to go evil, but instead left an opening that could short circuit her if water got in due to being damaged.

But the higher ups always say, "have our tech people run updates to make these dolls more efficient." It's just like a lot of Video Games, they are not ready to be released. There are many bugs, glitches and testing that need to be done before full release. They all have the same thing in common, the release window.

M3GAN is hands down my favourite horror movie (and perhaps my favourite movie altogether). I didn't have especially high expectations for it at first, but I ended up seeing an early screening and I was floored by it. Much more so than some of my friends. And afterwards, I couldn't quite get the film out of my head. It's a film that's great fun but has a great amount of meaning to it; it has a lot to say about the abdication of parenthood. All of my baby cousins have been affected by technology addiction. They knew how to scroll on phones before they could even crawl. Now they're almost teens and if you take away their phones or iPads, they'll have the exact same reaction as Cady in the film. Kicking, screaming, and punching. I ended up seeing M3GAN 8 times in the cinema. And many more times at home on Blu-Ray. There's just some movies that you hit you differently. It meant a lot to me. It's my comfort movie.

Sofia, the robot is unique, I’m glad you at least mentioned it can operate on its own at times! More than 99% of Sophia‘s interactions with other people is someone behind-the-scenes! If she’s being interviewed the questions need to be submitted ahead of time! Kind of like how the White House holds a press release, and then accepts questions! The questions need to be submitted on time, that’s why when you have someone that talks out of their turn asking a question. That question will never be answered. Also, the reason Sophia is never on her own unless questions or submitted ahead of time is so she doesn’t say something that she’s not supposed to & so you don’t get a response like “ I’m not aware of that, I will have to find out and get back to you”! All seriousness, though! it’s primarily so she doesn’t say something that she’s not supposed to!

There were a few good episodes of The Outer Limits, that tackled this in multiple ways. The first as a caregiver companion for a disabled person (Valarie 23), then a caregiver for children (Mary 25), and a android that becomes self aware (Mac 27). Really good series that explored all that you talked about.

Kinda funny how the only way A.I. is scary is if it starts acting like a person. Yet hating A.I. is encouraged, and hating people is problematic...just some food for thought.
@Adam-326
@Adam-326 6 ай бұрын
Not true, AI is only scary when it has inhuman performance. Art, music, programming, physical labor and other fields can easily be dominated by AI. On the other hand, hating people is discouraged because it would be too infeasible to gather the support required to eliminate an entire group of them. That, and humans are dangerous and would likely respond unfavourably.
@SatanicBarbeque
@SatanicBarbeque 6 ай бұрын
@@Adam-326 I'm definitely not going to be the guy to argue for A.I. "art" or "music". But I wasn't referring to either of those. Every single villainous A.I. in any form of media is harmless until it gains sentience, becomes arguably more human, and chooses to become a psychopath.

@@SatanicBarbeque Yes, but humans aren’t inherently evil. That’s like saying「babies are harmless until they grow up to be serial killers」. They’re villains. It’s a cliché, but beyond that, there are also countless AI characters that aren’t out to kill humans while also emulating them. It may hurt to say, but the logical (and sometimes, the easiest and most effective) way to deal with some people and with some of the problems in society would be to strip people of their agency or, if necessary, remove them.
@SatanicBarbeque
@SatanicBarbeque 6 ай бұрын
@@Adam-326 Psychopathy is inherently a human condition. Being evil is exclusively human. If an A.I. is evil, then there really isn't much separating them from an actual person other than a biological body, in most cases.
