So, just tallying up the score, Hollywood has done live action reboots of Transformers, The Last Airbender, Dragonball Z, and now Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, all of which have been terrible. By my estimation, crappy live action Pokemon reboot by Michael Bay coming 2018 starring Megan Fox as Nurse Joy.

Totally agree with you there. Sach was supposed to be the Shredder but they change it and made a secondary villain who is a unknown Japanese Shredder that has no name. And just because they change Sach to be his student doesn't mean anything at all unless we know you are the Sensei that Sach was talking about in his origin story but the fact is that we don't know except only know that he brought you to New York so you can take over the city? But for what purpose? Don't know about that either except being stupid rich like what Sach said to the turtles. They should have at least gave us the name of the Sensei that Sach was talking about in his origin story in Japan. Just too many holes in the plot that doesn't make any sense to give the Villain more depth and character development and to give us something to look forward in the sequel.

Eric Sachs is derived from Oroku Saki (Shredder's real name). I think Sachs was supposed to be Shredder but considering the backlash from fans they changed it. This movie had many rewrites during filming and that was probably one of them.

The Ninja Turtles I grew up with was the 2003 version. It was more like the comics, but still has the 1980s charm. However, the new show on Nick is the only thing watching in that channel (sometimes an old Spongebob episode), because its awesome. But I will look into IDW and see if it they are a good read.

I think Jeremy's got it spot-on. The tight-asses at Rotten Tomatoes are too harsh with just about anything they can get their hands on; they're like the Fox News of movie reviewing sites... most of the time. As much of a cinema enthusiast as I am, I can honestly say I really don't care how well it does as a movie itself just yet. I wanna see how well it does as a Ninja Turtles movie first and foremost before I put any critical thought into it. Just think about it, everyone. Before the notoriously shitty sequels came out, Michael Bay's Transformers was actually fairly well-received by audiences and Transformers fans alike. The critical consensus didn't exactly matter that much, we just got to see the Transformers kicking ass in real life! We really need to cast the PTS from the Transformers sequels aside and forget everything we know about Michael Bay before entering this movie... Just pretend you're a kid again and see how it holds up solely as a Ninja Turtles movie. That's what I'm doing.

Okay so I actually loved the movie, but I can't ignore the fact that (SPOILER ALERT) it was really similar to The Amazing Spider-Man. The way that Shredder wanted to spread out a gassy toxin from the big antenna on the building which also resembled the Oscorp Tower, then they fight on it causing the antenna to fall. haha, maybe spidey and the turtles should team up instead of the Avengers hahaha

I agree with Jeremy's review. The movie was okay at best and the only reason it was saved from being outright garbage was because of michaelangelo's humor. The movie's story is a complete bastardization of the teenage mutant ninja turtle comic book lore. There is no hamato yoshi. There is no tragic love triangle which led to the rise of shredder. The movie was just rape of the source material. The acting and character development was garbage. U don't give a fuck about shredder. The action was pretty low key until the mountain slope scene. In fact the martial arts was just a HUGE BLUR. U hardly see Raphael use his sais or michaelangelo use his nunchucks. And the foot ???? Just embarrassing. the foot were reduced to thugs with guns. Really sad. I mean it's horrifying to see michael bay fuck up all our childhood comics/cartoons. And the sad thing is I'm willing to bet thundercats and Vultron is next on the chopping block !!!!!!

Steven Escareno the cartoon was also to sell toys but stayed pretty loyal to the series by making a rivalry between splinter and shredder which this movie clearly lacked. Yes that is total bastardization at that point because if it makes no conflict between the protagonist and antagonist that they are supposed to have before the story even begins, it doesn't hold up to the story. Just because it had decent action does not make it a good turtles movie you fools. But I guess this is why COD is still a thing because people pay money for bad product all the time and love big explosions and bad storylines.

I'm really disappointed you didn't give this movie the dogshit rating it deserves, from everything I'm reading about it in reviews to seeing the movie itself, all our worst fears are coming true. Make no mistake about it, Eric Sachs IS Shredder, or rather was until some post production editing. All they did was show the other guy get into the suit, and not Sachs, it's a simple editing trick. His name is syllable for syllable a Western version of Oroku Saki, Eric = Oroku, Sachs = Saki. So that proves my point. I urge you people, do not see this movie, please let it underperform at the box office, watch GOTG or whatever other movie there is instead because those honestly deserve your money, not this derivative, uncreative garbage Liebsman churned out. I mean do you people REALLY want to see the Turtles degenerate like the Transformers did? Do people REALLY want the word "TMNT" to become a dirty word like 'Trasformers'?

I think William Fichtner WAS going to be Shredder in this, but fans got really angry, & they did reshoots, casting another dude as the "real" Shredder. Hence why those scenes with Sachs & Shredder seem out of place & you never see Shredder in his suit with Sachs. The reason why I believe this is in his name. Oroku Saki.... Eric Sachs. Just saw this movie yesterday as it only came out here in the UK at the weekend and have to say I really enjoyed it. The turtles were the turtles I remember as a kid, the movie captured their characters perfectly. Shredder was the bad ass he had to be. The action scenes were fantastic. It was very funny, mostly due to Mikey. And surprisingly Megan Fox was fine as April. I will say the plan wasn't original but it by no means took away from my enjoyment of the movie as a whole. I hope they make a sequel with Casey in it...

The turtles got the job done, the fight scenes and action got the job done, Megan Fox/April O'neal wasn't that bad, the gist of their origin story was good enough I guess... At the end of the day, other than those points listed above and maybe a couple I missed, what else is expected from this movie? If you want the 1990's version, then go watch that... It still exists... So I finally saw the movie and... wow. It was really awesome. It wasn't boring at all. The most boring parts were with the humans and even then that wasn't boring to me. That was STORY. It didn't have to be fighting and jokes constantly and it wasn't, nor were these absent. Out of all the TMNT MOVIES, this is by far one of the best. It also seems to be the only one where more depth into more elements from the TMNT universe has a chance of being adapted such as the Kraang/Utrom or Kraang himself and more mutations.

Goodness people. Can a movie be made that is just a well spun entertaining tale without all the internet philosophers acting bananas. Here is the deal with the movie. Instead of retelling the ninja turtles origin story in deep detail they chose to focus on making a fun film. The majority of the people going to see this movie will already be informed of multiple turtles origin stories so I personally didn't see the point in taking time to restate what most of us going to see the film will already know. I am glad that they didn't. They didn't do the Leo vs. Raph thing that has been done to death now. They had a little squabble here and there but not the full over the top I'm leaving bit they always give Raph. They balanced the turtles out more in this movie. This was not another Raphael movie with appearances from his three brothers. About dang time. I was tired of the same repeated theme anyway. For once splinter isn't an old past prime master. Thankful for that too. He was ready to get them paws dirty. LOL. About time. No, it is not a Planet of the apes movie or a Nolan Batman movie with a strict attention to detail. It is family oriented fan service. Comedic enough to keep you grinning and action packed enough to keep you watching. As this reviewer stated the movie proceeds as a film that expect viewers to already know a lot. I know a lot. LOL. So it was just fine for me. I imagine that the vast majority of the people going to see it will be heavily informed as well. The original movie is the best story by far. However, they would get slammed for remaking the exact same film. The movie was not made to blow your mind. It was made to entertain. It does just that.

Can we all just realize that objectively the old life action movies were bad too? Im pretty sure the movie was a chore for 80s parents to watch, and we love them because they were magic to us as kids. Now when a movie comes out, these poor developers have to please the kids AND the frothing perfectionist fans from the 80s. Kids will grow up in 2020 , and it will be the exact same thing, except that reboot will need to please kids, fans of this movie, and middle aged fans from the 80s. Its a terrible cycle and we need to realize the audience here. The turtles aren't nearly as timeless as Superheroes or have the same age range as many other movies. Don't misunderstand me when I said that it wasn't great. It is a very good film. The practical effects of the costumes were excellent for their time and honestly look better than most CGI today. Hell, I don't see why with this movie they didn't do practical effects costume and just use CGI for faces and certain action sequences. I also love the overall tone, style and pacing of the movie. However, as fan of the comics I have a couple complaints. Not that it wasn't completely in line with the source material, hell, the cartoon was nothing like the source material, but that's another subject. It was just too much of a kid's movie at times. Primarily, the sub-plot involving the foot taking in kids and brainwashing them was obviously shoehorned in to give children in the audience a forgettable character to help them identify identify with the movie, and holds the rest of the movie back. There were so many better ways they could have portrayed the foot as evil in a cool but simple way so kids could understand it, so the fact that "It's for kid's," isn't an excuse. In fact, it never is when you consider that Gargoyles and the DCAU are a thing. The original TMNT is good, but it's no masterpiece. At least it wasn't as goofy as TMNT2 or as atrocious as TMNT3.

The idea of a maniac brainwashing children is terrifying, but that's not the way the movie presents that plot point. Shredder as a villain is given zero development or character outside of two things: He killed Splinter's master and he brainwashes kids. That sentence alone gave you every detail regarding Shredder's character that the movie presents. From there, the movie shows you like two scenes of him "brainwashing" these kids all leading up to an internal conflict of a secondary avatar character who treats the situation with very little moral levity. That entire portion of the movie was made to help this otherwise more adult comic adaptation seem more presentable to children and the entire movie is held back because of it. Does it make it a bad movie? Of course not, I love the first Ninja Turtles movie. But to say that it's great let alone a masterpiece is reaching a bit. I'm a massive TMNT fan but I'm also a huge movie fan, and judging this film as a movie it gets a 7/10 from me. Which isn't low, at all, but it doesn't get any other brownie points just because it's TMNT or because it's better than most kid's movies.

ECKohns I'd like to add that Roland Emmerich is not as bad as most people put him out to be. He did direct Stargate which was a great movie, and The Patriot, another great movie. Sure he messed up on Independence day and Godzilla, but i'd give him a 5.5/10 on a directors scale, Average.

I actually really loved this movie. Would've given it a blue ray. It aint perfect thats true but the action scenes are good. Comedy is great n even the story I felt was good. JJ is right in saying u understand the movie better if u know the Turtles. Why u watching this movie if u dont love the Ninja Turtles???? Lol

I'll be honest...I'm not much a turtles fan...I like it,but I could never get into it as much as others could. I will admit that Michelangelo is my favorite turtle and I have played Turtles in Time on the SNES.

Yeah but you gotta see it like this the ninja turtles as a whole are just archetypes (mikey the jokester don the brain,ect) so they need a villain that brings out the best and worst out of the turtles so they can seem more like ppl. Like for example some ppl say joker brings out the best in batman because no matter what joker does he will not kill him. And we need the villain to take the turtles out of the archetypes like maybe shedder kills a gf of mikey letting us see for once mikey in deep pain instead of jokey guy. As for marvel..they aren't archetypes really, so they don't really need a great villain per say..but it sure does help make the viewer more interested in the film. Marvel flicks seem IMO successful due to the relationships and moments between the main and side characters. Ex. Thor the dark world

ItsMichaelReid I see what you're saying but these have always been the way the Turtles Are. Every Character is a Archetype. Dark Brooder? Batman. America Hero? Superman or Cap. The Turtles bring out the best in Each out. They don't depend on the villain. I feel like Marvel Movies get the Cheap Excuse like that. The Marvel Movies for the majority have always had weak villains. Character relationships are good and all but that is only one part of a movie. The Turtles have always been good movies for relationships. I just feel that as much as I love reviewers like Jeremy that they Have problems with one movie while there so called best have the same exact problems.

I can see where Jeremy is coming from with his rating on this film. However, I honestly thought this film wasn't that bad; in fact I thought it was good and that's shocking considering Michael Bay was involved in it. Yeah, it has some flaws, but the movie really got the personalities and interactions of the turtles really well. Not to mention the action scenes were well done and the jokes actually made me snicker a little. In my opinion, I would give this movie a "good time, no alcohol required" rating. It's not the best TMNT movie, but it's certainly not the worst.

Joe C If there are load of people saying its shit, about a film that comes from a director who has a dogey track record (I don't care about Michael Bay I'm talking the guy who directed Battle LA who's doing this movie) and the fact that this is a world that seeing a movie costs money (meaning that you might give money to watch shit you find out you didn't like but since it was popular more of that shit gets made) then people are going to bag on so that people don't watch it to either make sure they don't waste time or so more of this shit doesn't get made.

I dont know why everyone hates on this movie. I actually enjoyed it! It was what it was supposed to be, a FUN movie about ninja turtles! I don't know why people expect this to be a thought provoking movie, it's just supposed to be fun not over analyzed. Though my one compliant was that Shredder didn't have a personality, I wish they would have combined Sachs and Shredders character.

Tmnt was no where near as bad as what critics made it out to be...Let the hate machine roll on, because everyone in the theater applauded. What do you expect from a turtles movie?? Comedy, action.. silliness.. I loved every minute of it. Yes, it has it's flaws, but it was very entertaining, and seeing my turtles on the big screen again kicking ass was very enjoyable to watch. Sequel June 3rd, 2016!!!

Just watched it 2 hours ago and I think it was pretty well made it looked real and Megan Fox does a great job Will Arnet isn't that good but he works somehow and the four Turtles were so awesome I laughed I teared up a little bit in the end the fights with Shredder were awesome even though Shredder does not have a character development that action scenes were so awesome but in the ending scene it got me out a little bit because it feels like a rip off TASM but overall I would give it the rating Buy it on Blu-Ray. My opinion thanks for reading.
