I'm trying to choose between the S1R or the S5
@JeremyNeipp

That's a hard choice! I think it depends what you are using it for... what will be your main uses?

@@JeremyNeipp mainly taking dog photos. I have a GH5 for video. I have a S1R on loan and it’s amazing. The pictures are so much better than the G series having had both the G9 and GH5. I’m still might try the R6 just because of the animal eye AF which is meant to very good. At the moment most stores over here are closed and Canon don’t do a loan scheme unlike Panasonic.

Gotcha, yea I mean in that case, the S1R is undoubtably better for dog photos if you are looking for the highest quality... but my guess is that you won't be blowing them up 20x30 on a wall, so the S5 will probably be plenty good enough for that but at half the price... but that would be my thought!

I was curious about the sigma super zoom , then the link took me to a canon version? So, how did you adapt it, and how does the adaptor works?
@JeremyNeipp
@JeremyNeipp 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniela! The adapter essentially adapts the Canon mount to the desired format mount by just matching up connection to fit and the electronics as well. For my Panasonic, the mount is called an MC-21 adapter, I can include a link below for you too if you let me know what camera you are shooting with, is it the S1R as well?

@@JeremyNeipp thanks for answering back, I have been looking at the S1r, in order to change my older body Canon 5Dsr which I Iove, but the tech on it is getting very old.This camera has caught my eye since it was out. Pls, attach to your description the adapter? Thanks for sharing how this camera is working, I heard some bad things regarding its focus system by contrast only, how do you find it? My core of work, is with macro (bugs) flowers,(close ups) and birds. Lastly some landscaping as well. Again, thank you and best wishes from Uruguay. One last question does the lens retains autofocus with the adapter? I have a tamron 150-600 for my canon and also a tamron 90mm macro lens.

Of course, I'm glad you have been considering the S1R. In my opinion, it's an amazing camera and the best in the class around 50MP cameras. As you have already seen my quick review video you know my brief thoughts on it, if you haven't seen my full review video I would definitely recommend checking that out too! Below is the link to the adapter required. The reason why I don't have it linked in the description is because it's very difficult to find a constant provider for this adapter and the link's are always changing. If you click this link soon it should still work however. Currently, the only way to buy an MC-21 on Amazon is in a bundle so unfortunately you can't get a stand alone item. amzn.to/3a03k9S To answer your last question, there are really only two downsides to the S1R. For some people, the weight is not pleasant. It's undoubtably heavier than most other mirrorless cameras but for me, I actually prefer a heavier camera, makes me feel as if I'm carrying something more quality and have a secure grip. The second downside which is a much bigger problem for most people is that the autofocus is bad especially when adapted such as with the MC-21. Personally, I shoot 100% manual focus in all my images, so I don't touch the AF except on a blue moon, however, I know some people rely heavily on AF and are not able to sacrifice it, which in this case I would say the S1R is not a clear winner for their class of camera. My encouragement however, my photography career has very noticeably improved ever since I learned how to master manual focus! So if you have ever debated that, I would encourage considering learning how to do MF well so you don't ever have to rely on an AF system in your photography. If you can do this, the S1R is EASILY the best camera for you. Especially with macro and flowers, I see no problems learning MF. With birds, MF is definitely tricky, but you learn slowly over time and eventually you will master that too. Hope that all helped and I hope you keep checking out my future updates on gear and wildlife!

@@JeremyNeipp I am very happy that you took your time to answer back. Having eyesight problems so it's hard for me not to rely on autofocus , even with glasses I have problems with far away subjects. Sniffff, so I will wait till Sigma makes it for Pana-Leica, as they most surely will do sometime, I asume that when Covid starts going away , we may finally get a bit more normal stuff. In any case if I buy this camera, I will do it next year, when I travel to Europe. For the time being, I am sill keeping my heavy Canon 5dsr , and my new fuji xt 4 (I had to import it, and for anything to come here, we pay around 100 % extra!!!!) everything is very expensive here ! I will watch your other videos on this camera! And I am happy that you made some reviews about Panasonic, as many users had demolished this cameras! Kudos my friend! and best wishes from distant Uruguay.

No problem! Yea that is most definitely an understandable reason to use AF. Maybe by your Europe trip you will have more options! Yea I truly believe that Panasonic is a great brand and better quality for price than most others, a very consumer conscious brand as well with top quality build. I think for the most part people just don't like change and that's why Canon and Nikon have hung in there so long at the top even when they are much slower to adapt to changes such as mirrorless or in-body image-stabilization. Thanks for the subscription! Best wishes from California.

I recently watched one of your previous videos on the G9 as it’s the camera I am looking to upgrade to soon. Now you have me wanting the S1R! Regardless, great work Jeremy! I came across your channel recently but really appreciate the quality videos you are producing. Keep it up👍🏼

Thanks man! Yea the G9 is undoubtably the best camera on a budget in my opinion, but if you can afford the upgrade to the S1R it's very worth it! Thanks for the compliment and encouragement! I definitely intend to keep producing better and better quality content.

I nearly purchased a S1R on black friday sale this year but I just couldn't make the switch to FF yet because I would have so swap all my nice little MFT lenses and 46MP images take sooo much space on my HDD :D 24MP

Ah so close! But yea I understand haha, you spend even a discount to $3k on the body, but then you gotta spend another $2-3k to get all the lenses you need haha. And yea my hard drives get eaten up, with all the professional work I do included, I eat up about 6TB a year.
