Honestly, that mysterious two-screen/two-system mode for F-16 Fighting Falcon has intrigued me ever since you first mentioned it in the review video, there's just something so incredibly fascinating about weird, one-off technology solutions like this, and particularly for such a seemingly undeserving game. Hopefully I'll get to see it working on real hardware someday, so I can say "oh wow, that's neat" and then move on with the unending march that is life.

You assume you are the only child in the home? so you assume wrong... the idea is siblings and all age family members however back then in the 80s and 90s there was a stigma on videogames and even though there was real research data that showed people of older ages and both genders were playing videogames, it was more like a minority and thus most of the marketing tended to alienate girls which is not like how videogames were marketed in Japan for all ages and the entire family... including elders to give a try if they would. Again most of the stigma and marketing kept presenting this idea that the target audience were young boys to twelve year olds which later backfired on Sega and to a point Nintendo when older gamers did not want to be treated to a bunch of little Disney games all over again.

I was completely absent-minded when following all the Master System episodes, and I'm amazed that we really are halfway there. That means the ever-increasing likelihood of reaching "Ultima IV", although I know that happened in the Master System's near-end of life. I wanna add that, while I did not play the Master System version personally, I did brave through the original Apple II version of the game and decided to write down many helpful notes for new players - because devoid of any context, Ultima IV tends to be a very dense and mystifying game. You're not even exactly sure what you're supposed to do or what the object of the game is. I had to write a super-short mini-FAQ where I wanted to put some basic groundwork and context for new players and I put it on a public pastebin. But today I've become inspired enough to put it on GameFAQs, too. Far from my first contribution on there. I hope people get use out of it.

Are you thinking of doing Genesis at some point? Your thoughts on the F16 game (clunky controls, terrible graphics, but underneath all that kind of trying to do something interesting and far too complex for the hardware) reminded me immediately of Cyber Cop for the Genesis. That game is pretty unplayable, but it had enough ideas that I kept wanting to find fun in it. It adds an inventory to the Wolfenstein genre, which adds an element of strategy to the proceedings, or it would if you could last long enough for it to matter. Unfortunately the visuals make every floor just an uninflected grey-blue blob, making navigation essentially impossible, which is a problem in a game that wants you to explore to find keys to progress. It almost prefigures the immersive sim genre but it's such an unplayable pile that I don't think anyone really noticed.

Master system probably didn't have strong enough support to beat the NES/famicom in Japan and the States. Though unlike say the 7800, I could have definitely seen it being a modest success. It had solid and interesting games, and a really charming color pallet but didn't capitalize on the strengths of console specific game design enough to beat nintendo's slate of exclusives, and while the second half of the console's library definitely leans into that more with games like Wonder boy 3, Phantasy star, and golden axe warrior. it was probably too late. Still a good system though

Re: WBiML. Weird thing about me--I actually tend to like Action Adventure/RPG games made with coin-op design stylings! It's the timer, which I think usually improves play if it's implemented intelligently. Gauntlet Legends, for example, at home was very grindy, but in arcades with the timed health loss pushing players forward made the game more fun. Lots of RPGs don't provide a good check against players spending a lot of time grinding, and design choices of the past two decades plus have tended to reward grind, in more games than just RPGs.

Can you help me settle a debate? This guy on youtube says the master system/markIII is a new version of the sg1000 because sms is in the same family as and backwards compatible with sg1000. He also says ps2 is a not a different version of ps1 despite ps2's backwards compatibility w/ ps1 and them being in the same family) I disagree, I would say mark III/sms is a new system that is backwards compatible , just like how other systems with backwards compatibility such as 7800 & ps2 are (were) new systems. I would consider intellevision 2, gb pocket, psone, 2600 Jr, and other redesigns new versions of their respective consoles. Who's right?

You are correct. You can't play Master System games on an SG-1000, and SG-1000 games don't look correct on a Mark III. They're different systems that share a processor in common and have (imperfect!) backward compatibility. The DS had the ability to run GBA games in hardware... that doesn't make those the same system.

@@JeremyParish He still disagrees and threw a hissyfit on a live stream about it. He also considers jeopardy and Double Dare on nes among the best puzzle games. He insists questions are puzzles.

I know you did not like Enduro Racer. Check it out again though. You press the d-pad down at the exact moment of you driving over the ramps. That’s what makes the game work. It completely changes the experience from what you experienced in your review to a rhythm type racing game that can get extremely fun. Maybe go back and check it out. It is an awesome Master System game once you know about popping the wheelie right at the start of the ramps.

YEeeeeaaaahhh Action Fighter!! Even if you called it Action Hunter!! This is the kinda game that you put on your Ray-ban 3030 Outdoorsmans, crank up Carpenter Brut, open your Camero hood and plug in your SMS right into the v8 engine, and then peel out leaving your wife and kids to

I love your Nes Works vids... but screw the master system. A new video from you is amazing when its not some sega nonsense. Also fun fact. there is no god.
