I like all three of the Works series, but Game Boy Works is my favourite and it feels like the most necessary.

It's too bad that this has such rote gameplay, because the art style and sprite design are really charming. Put these sprites in something like a StarTropics game and it would be amazing. ...And yes, I _am_ holding out hope that someone will make StarTropics 3.

Agreed. For 1990, this looks great. No backgrounds that are just white, for example.

This is definitely a rose colored glasses, nostalgia scenario for me. I can’t imagine playing it now. But remember beating it a couple times as a kid and having lots of fun. Brutal review, but honest. I will repeat what everyone else is saying in that the sequel is much improved and it'll be interesting to see you break it down in the same way you did this one. RCII for me was really fun, but having fun can sometimes blind you to a more objective view on a game's systems and so on.

I wish Jeremy can find people he can trust and who can all divide working on the 'Works' episodes among them in a neat order and still maintain that quality insight and criticism. He needs those extra hands badly. Looking forward to your SNES 1991.
@JeremyParish6 жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstand my motives. I'm doing this because I enjoy doing the work, not because I'm trying to saturate KZbin with retrospectives. Handing it off to someone else would go against the entire point here.
@SEGAClownboss6 жыл бұрын
It's undoubtedly a joy to work on it, but many of your viewers decidedly see this as a project with a finite goal: To catalog all games in a platform, which they would love to see completed. How do you gel with such a lofty wish? What would you think if, if you were to stop making the 'Works' series for whatever reason, countless copycats, or a fan community, would try to pick up and continue the 'Works' series from where you've left off?
@JeremyParish6 жыл бұрын
People can create whatever videos they like. The more efforts there are to preserve information about the medium's history, the better. In any case, I don't consider myself beholden to what other people see as my goals, because everyone has their own thoughts on that and there's no way to satisfy them all.

Never played the first game (weird, considering how desperate I was for anything resembling an RPG), but I did play the sequel. It was certainly better than this looks--I liked how you could switch playable characters, for one--but calling it "good" would be a significant overstatement. That was obvious to me even at that young, overly forgiving age.
