Yeah, I suggest learning on something cheap that you might break, lose, damage, who knows... Beginners are prone to making mistakes. To say it nicely 😂 When you know what styles of fishing you like, an upgrade might help you improve one day. "Showing off" is a form of marketing that appeals to beginners just like $200 shoes will make you better at basketball. Get good first 😉

Man, it ALWAYS happens you wind up with a broken lip crankbait. you could always load that lure to make it really suspend. Use mineral oil for best results. Always works for me and helps recycle broken baits. Sand down the bill all the way and it will work fine. Great video as usual! Good to see your first bass of the year caught. Gets that skunk feeling out of the way.

Congrats on your first bass of the season! Those suspending jerkbaits are awesome, I've caught some nice ones on them. Also another good lure is the Bill Lewis Floating Rat-L-Trap. It has a good tight wiggle, and is good at staying above the muck on the bottom. My first bass of the year was caught on it.

I think I have a jerkbait or 2 around here in one of the MTB Pro boxes I was getting for awhile. I think I will try it out sometime this weekend. Two nice bass you got there! I caught a bass on 3 of the last 5 times out fishing. They were all caught on 4" Yum Dinger's. Yeah!

Nice catches. I bought a jerkbait and lost it within 30 minutes. A few months later I caught it, but the hooks were rusted and corroding off. Going to change the hooks and get it back in the water now after seeing this.

I didn't know quantum made a reel like that. For years I was using shimano reels that have the same trigger design but they call it the quickfire feature. It's really awesome when you're throwing lures but also created bad habits that were hard to break.

I get my license from Walmart too. Before they changed this rule a couple of years ago, the license would be good for the end of the year. Which means if you want a license on December 5th, it would be good for 16 days but still cost the full amount. Now it’s good from a full year of purchase.

Seems like right now down here it's really tough to get a decent day and conditions to go fishing. The amount of rain we've had is ridiculous, and we just had a ton more Wednesday and Thursday. When I went Friday, last week, that was the first decent day all year down here. Went again Tuesday, caught a few more bluegill and shellcracker, but the bass weren't biting anything.

I love catching em on the jerkbait. I tried braid with my jerkbait and the string gets wrapped around the rod tip a lot. Ever have that issue? I had to move to florocarbon on my jerkbait rod but I use braid on everything else. The rapala shadow rap is an awesome jerkbait.

Grats on the first Bass of the year. I can’t recommend the snapshot though. I bought the original snapshot when it came out int e 90’s from Quantum. It’s now $19 and not even worth that. Nice catches Alex! Excellent of you to mention why you used a medium action rod! You're spot on! Did you use a leader? I don't know whether I should. Some references recommend them. Others say they're unnecessary. So far I've used braid only for topwater around lily pads, and I'm wondering if I should use it for other situations. Any advice?

This braid is 6 lb test diameter, its like thread so I don't bother with a leader. 😀

Yes I typically fish in the morning. I think you can catch fish in almost any temperature, but I was checking so I know when to expect them in the shallow creeks. I occasionally keep fish like a catfish, but usually let most of them go.

I bought a lifetime license over 10 years ago, do they offer them in your state? When I bought mine an annual license was $12 , then they went to $18, and now they are $23 in VA. I have missed a lot of videos because of the new YT rule, time to catch up on them.

Our lifetime license is about $2000.00. The yearly one is now around $38. Since I don't think I will live here forever, I am not going to buy the lifetime.
