jerma thinks the sauce question is way more philosophical than it is
@zaksaturday1693

Not to mention soups and sauces were some of the most primitive ways of cooking aside from just fire-roasting. You can extract so much more, especially from offcuts and bones that would otherwise be wasted, by cooking them in a soup or a sauce, and they were an easy way to both cook down high volumes of vegetables/fruits and therefore more easily preserve them. Realistically once people were able to boil water and had earthenware bowls they started cooking, and this could go back as far as 20,000 BC. Depending on how lenient Jerma would deem a sauce to be, it could be anywhere from then to 3rd Century BC China when soy bean paste became a vital ingredient in modern cooking due to its usefulness in condensing soy beans into a much more easily consumed and preserved ingredient.

The funny thing about the sauce question is that jerma acts like food is completely flavorless without sauce. People still had taste buds back then lol. Taste was just more of a tool for finding edible food rather than from a purely pleasure standpoint. People probably had broth before they had sauce.

I've had some store bought tuna salad that was so bad it could completely turn me off on ever having it again, but I've also had homemade stuff that was so good I would be fine with eating only that every day for a year. It's all about the freshness, quality of ingredients, and consistency.

@guitarguy42394

I actually really enjoy the prompt of “who made the first sauce?”. I’m going to ask my friends that and see what they say. I’m guessing it was after the advent of soups cooked in large leaves/animal stomachs but likely before or around the same time as the implementation of basic pottery. Someone who had roasted meat and decided to save the drippings by cooking soup instead probably had the idea to roast the meat and catch the drippings in a vessel below the meat. They may have dipped the meat in the rendered fat mixture or added basic greens to it as it cooked, creating a sauce. Really fun to think about for some reason
@brycerodriguez244
@brycerodriguez244 Жыл бұрын
Whoever made the first sauce would have wanted a little more flavor with their meal. Since a meal tastes better the longer you have gone hungry, the first intentional sauce-maker must have been a rich chef: one that was a master in culinary arts and could eat whenever he wanted while peasants around him starved and just ate bread or something. To want to add a little more shebang to a meal, you need to afford to waste that meal if it tastes horrible
@bubblinebee
@bubblinebee 3 ай бұрын
@@brycerodriguez244 Probably more likely the opposite, as OP posited. Probably a way of extracting extra nutrition out of a meal, by retaining fats that would otherwise go to waste.

@@bbbbbbb51 serious answer though, get some of that good canned tuna, then for every can add like 2 large spoonfuls of mayo plus an entire diced SOUR (it sucks bad if you accidentally use a sweet one) pickle. Without the pickle I agree it’s a little bland but once you add the pickle it’s a godly substance. Best in a sandwich but tbh you don’t even need the bread I’d eat it out of a bowl

Sauces weren't just created because "it tastes better" it was a way of using leftover ingredients and getting more flavour out of a meal, same way cavemen boiled meat in water to create broth so those nutrients weren't lost in the cooking process. You're still consuming the ingredients of the sauce so how is it wasting scarce food? And plus making shit taste good is like, 90% of the reason any food ever was created, I feel like jerma is so robotic in nature that he physically can't taste the flavours of food, he simply consumes product for chemical energy, not enjoyment, not pleasure. Hence why he is so supportive of this "flavourless pebble" diet, any other human would go insane being unable to taste or experience any other flavour for the rest of their lives. Jerma is truly a terrifying and psychotic 'human'.

I eat most things, but I think the pebbles would come in handy. You could just get a bowl of pebbles out at any time, like how I grab a carrot from the fridge and chomp on it like Bugs Bunny. Sometimes you just want convenient food, but hopefully the pebbles would be more nutritious than fast food or potato chips. I wouldn’t replace normal meals with them though. And if the pebbles were to be ACTUALLY made they’d need a flavour.
