Real GAMER FUEL

Jerma sits in the chair in the game. Suddenly, he feels... Refreshed. Like he's woken up from a long sleep. His vision goes hazy, and he slowly peels his eyes open. "huh?" he thinks, as he steps out of a bed he's never even seen before. Weirdly, he feels a lot taller than usual. He looks out the window and sees a bustling, happy neighbourhood in a suburban town. "this is a weird vr game", he says to himself as he steps downstairs to get something to eat. He sees a woman sitting at the table, and she says "oh hey babe, you're up late. I made you some coffee". Jerma looks at his wrist for chat, and is surprised when he doesn't see anything. Thinking the overlay crashed, he sits at the table and is handed a flat white coffee and a copy of the morning newspaper. Strange, for saying it is vr it smells very fresh, almost like its in the room. He puts it up to his lips, and is surprised how convincing it feels. The woman speaks: "what was it like at the office, now we've moved in, do you think you could get used to this new life with just us?" jerma starts to panic. He knows that this is not just a VR game. He is in some kind of trance, and must wake up. "uh" he says, "where am I?" the woman responds "why, we're in newcrest, this small town we decided to move to after we got engaged. You do remember that night, don't you Steve? It was wonderful, don't you agree?" jerma looks at his hands, his eyes wide, he knows this isn't what he's used to. But as he looks at the young woman's face, he feels a sense of belonging. "yeah... " he says, "this is... Perfect." he hears a voicemail from his mother in law play: "hey Nancy, it's Bethany. Just wanted to check in and see how you were doing. I am so glad you're with someone as lovely as him. I love you, and wish you the best for your future life together." Jerma stares longingly into Nancy's eyes. Its her. Nancy drew... He knew this was where he wanted to be. After a wonderful evening getting to know the neighbours, driving around town, visiting the park, he settles into bed with his new girlfriend, his new life. As he closed his eyes, he shed a single tear. But from the corner of his eye, he sees a small, glowing rectangle. What could it be? He moves his head closer, and reads aloud a single mesaage: "he doesn't know." the words pierced his heart. He wanted nothing more than to stay in this world, get everything starts to melt away. Suddenly, he finds himself lying on his studio floor, trembling and shaking, sobbing, as chat's messages appear, mocking him as he writhes over the cheeto stained, mayonnaise coated hardwood floor. No one dare ask what he did to deserve this, what sick, twisted, cruel force of nature left him like this, toying with his sanity. A monument to the sins of humanity, jerma knew, his penitence is never over. Drowning in his own tears, he realises that no one will ever know of his deeds. Except chat. Chat is the only mercy provided to him, keeping him sober in this endless parade of torment he must endure. His journey is not over.
