If they have a near integer ratio, then you get Lissajous figures. One of my favourite things to do with analogue scopes. But here, it seems that he is changing the frequencies to both, while still tracing out the circle or any arbitrary shape, as retracing his steps is not noticeable in video for audio frequencies, and he can hide some visual information by using frequencies outside the audible range.

I mean I guess it makes sense geometrically. I’m just a dumb kid, but I think that sine waves, circles, and spheres can be represented mathematically as a bunch of sines and cosines in some sort of arrangement- I don’t know, I’m the last person you’d ask for help with calculus- but square waves, squares, and cubes are just kind of... plain sharp numbers. What I do know is that sine waves are naturally occurring and have only one frequency, but squares waves are completely manmade and produce infinite frequency harmonics of increasing pitch. The weird thing is that as humans, our brains only perceive the lowest pitch and tunes out the higher harmonics, just attributing them to the timbre, which in this case would be “sharp” because of all the high tones. It’s just like how a high, squealy trumpet sounds “hot” or “bright” while a conical bore euphonium sounds “mellow” or “smooth.” I dunno, it’s a neat topic.
