Jackson Hole .. giggle. I bought my first home many years ago in Orpington. A mere stone's throw from Badger's Mount and Pratt's Bottom. Oh the fun we had in the good old days.

Clear explanation, tho not easy to accept and like you say, it doesn't seem surprising. Troubled times for many coming up. Nice video.

I dont understand how high interest rates will control inflation if its driven by items we must buy. Fuel, Gas, Electric. Business buy these consumables at higher rates, passing on cost to customer, pushing up prices thus pushing up inflation. Or in other words i dont think "hmm the interest is good on savings i might buy less gas this winter and save more" Like i said i dont understand. Another good vid.

Great video, and spot on as always. During the March/April 2020 period I said in a team call that once the pandemic was over we would see the return of higher levels of inflation. As you say, it should not have been a huge surprise. Of course this was also exacerbated by Putin invading the Ukraine and the impact on global supply of energy and key food items, but there has also been a massive squeeze across the whole supply chain from the pandemic closures and delayed demand. I suspect some of these inflation pressures will ease off but my sense is that inflation of around 4-5% will be the new norm over the next few years.

Tend to agree with all of this Peter, don’t see us at 2% inflation for a while.

The stock market wasn't being emotional. There was a chance the speech could have said any of the following: "curtailed interest rate hikes next year", "less aggressive policy in interest rate rises" or "balancing the unemployment rate with interest rate rises". (Etc). As soon as these potential scenarios were off the table, the stock market reacts with this new information and traders who had factored in a tailing off in hikes lost out and on the other extreme, traders who thought interest rates were going to be hiked to extreme levels made a profit. The market is simply awarding those who came in with the correct information on the future outlook which was probably due to luck or a calculated, biased educated guess

You can tell I'm an efficient market hypothesis kind of person :) I of course will fully admit that I might be wrong or partially wrong though as this is a theory, not a fact. Great video, and liked :)

Thanks Daniel, I’m an efficient hypothesis kinda guy too but market movements, especially knee jerk ones, are almost always about emotion and sentiment.
