The Carmichael Show's got a good cast and I like the writing but I don't think it enters the realm of great sitcoms until they get a new director to work out some of the technical kinks. Sometimes the characters will all be in the room and one will literally stand up, say their lines (which are usually clever and funny) and either sit back down or turn and walk away (Lil Rel does this a LOT). Like, what the hell?!? LOL, they need someone with skills in this department to give the proceedings a more natural feel. If not, they're wasting a great opportunity ESPECIALLY having two legends like David Alan Grier and Loretta Devine at their disposal. If they could tighten it up in a few small areas I think people would give the show a lot more respect.

+ BrownsugaKO77 One of the characters might do their line then turn and walk a few feet away but not actually out of the room. It looks/feels unnatural and odd. A skillful director would tell one of the actors to pretend to read a magazine while doing the scene, or act like they're watching TV, or eating a bowl of cereal. Not all of them have to be doing something but sitting there talking, standing to say your line then turning and walking away right after doesn't seem real at all, lol. If they made this adjustment, after their line they would go back to reading the magazine. Small, subtle differences.

They actually asked some great questions IMO, I wondered as well, like who is this guy? and why is this show so fucking hilarious and I'm just now hearing about this like a month ago, binged watched it, and just found it to get better and better as the episodes went on. I watched 'Get Out' and didn't realize until this interview that was Lil Rel lbvs, he has a stand-up on Netflix that is hilarious! 'The Carmichael Show' definitely makes you want to see more episodes. Unexpected punchlines, racy, and extremely amusing, certainly a show that represents this decade.

Much props to the brother's success........but something's not right about this guy. They asked him on 3 separate occasions HOW did he make it, get his big break, who put him on.......and he gave hella vague, non definitive answers every time. I still don't know how he got his break. And it standard for people to tell that story. NBC show, HBO specials, in the new Transformers......yet won't say how he got his big break. Something's kinda off.
@kawaiiafangirl7 жыл бұрын
I think the basic answer he was trying to give everyone was to work. There's different answers he can give depending on the avenue of entertainment (stand up, TV, movies, etc.). For his NBC show, he was actually contacted by some people at the Just for Laughs Festival in 2012 after they watched one of his sets, so he's been developing that show for years before it got on the air. And when it finally got on the air, they were only given 6 episodes and aired over the summer of that year so it wasn't like the guy got it made from the get go. For the stand up special, you can film it yourself (believe it or not) and just sell it to Netflix, HBO, Showtime, etc. So if they like your stuff, they'll buy it and air it which HBO did.
@tigereyez017 жыл бұрын
So why didn't he just say that. It's not that hard to say that. He was answering the question very, very vaguely and going around in circles. It was frustrating me.
