I'm pretty sure Scott and I were the only ones taping that night from the table directly in front of Jerry. He was looking down at us holding the omnidirectional mic at forearms length making sure not to block anyone's view behind us. Recorded with a Sony TCD5 on Maxell XLII-S. I still have the master tapes in my vault along with so, so many others.

hey, someone said they were elbows on the stage in front of Garcia and were trying to avoid reaching out and tying Garcia's shoelaces together. and when the dude reached he said Garcia looked down and he looked up and Garcia launched into the rigby. dude said it was the most intense moment of his life to that point or something. it wasn't this night obviously. This is maybe the most perfect performance . there's lots f perfect performances but this is impeccable. this whole show is one of my most most favorites. I have the audio file and if it came from you I really am grateful to you. thanks

@LudiCrust.4 ай бұрын
@@TankWilliams__JrI completely agree especially in the 80s & 90s. As vaunted as 1977 Grateful Dead is I think ‘77 JGB is better. You could tell Jerry & Keith weren’t as high & were more with it & Donna’s singing was miles better. Part of that too could be that the JGB songs fit her singing style better than a lot of the Dead songs like Playing in the Band etc.
@LudiCrust.4 ай бұрын
Check out JGB playing Dear Prudence. There’s a couple here on KZbin that are spectacular. There’s one from June or July 1980 that is phenomenal. It was video recorded too. It’s better than the early spring versions. Those are on video as well.

Kills the guitar EVERY break - One of the greatest things Garcia EVER did IMHO. His band is poppin' and his guitar licks and sick monster tone are simply Re-Donk-U-Lous! Had this in college on a cassette- It was filler at the end of a Dead show tape. No info- AND back then NO interwebz or way to look sh*t up. It was lost/prolly stolen during a move. Forgot about it, then 15 years later, somebody said "Hey Fever, Ya gotta hear this .. .. ..Check out Jerry!" Getting that music back was one of the best days of my life.. .. .. Thanks for posting!

@jimbailey1667 Hi. I took the time to look into this for you actually..on Wikipedia. I know that MAY not be the BEST source of information, but I didn't know where else to look online. I checked the references of Jerry Garcia Band members, and Jorma K is NOT listed in this line up. John Kahn is...however, and and about 4 or 5 other MAIN members, but that's it. On a side note, as many as THIRTY, YES, if you can believe that, thirty members, have played with the JGB over the years in rotating shifts. But Jorma K. is not listed in this line up. When I went to Google to look up this information, I specifically typed in the name of this song and this date, and JGB/Wikipedia came up. Hope this helps....

I love Garcia but depending on how JJ felt like playing "After Midnight" his versions were incendiary. Unfortunately JJ was notorious for disliking touring so there isn't a wealth of well recorded live shows to draw from. Some of the jams with Jerry and Dickey Betts have always been some of my favorites. Perhaps it's the love of bluegrass they shared but they always complemented each others playing so well not to have played together but a handful of times.

Eleanor Rigby, all instrumental, after a few bars hinting at it, 9:40, clearly starts at 10:00 At 11:55, takes the melody up tempo a notch...just to see how it tastes. Then after 12:00 and especially post 12:45 begins to jam off more free form- beyond the dark liverpool skyline, into looser, Eleanor flavored yet uplifted cleansed by the ethers in the wide open sky- and then becoming SMOKIN HOT e.g. 14:20 ) Heads off in new direction after 15:05, back towards "After Midnight", which begins again at 15:23

John Potts if I wanted a time frame of the song and an explanation of what jerry was doing at certain times of the song I would ask you. Jerry was well just doing what jerry does the whole fucking song, and that is being jerry. The whole 19 mins. Guess what at 9:40 when I was listening to this I had to take a shit, and at 12:37 I wiped? Now I swore I was not gonna say this on here, but you made me do it with all your time breakdowns. Now let’s all just listen to jerry do his magical thing. Peace out sorry if I went off , I just wanted to listen to this without the time break down. God bless you
