This is just incredible. So happy i was in the room this Labor Day weekend of 1989. Bob & Rob opening. Garcia Band, GD, Stones back on the road first time in 8 years. I had no money and made a job seeing as much music as I could. Gone are the days. I’d trade all my tomorrows for indeed

This song reflects Jerry in so many ways and is my favorite Garcia song... Saw him play it many times at The Stone in San Francisco. Best of times, makes me cry and gives me chills. Forever in my heart.

@@kimferguson9493 I just listened to the audiobook "Jerry on Jerry"--it's a bunch of interviews with him. He said there were some songs (and I am paraphrasing) that felt almost autobiographical and he sometimes felt Hunter really knew him. I can't remember how exactly he put it, but when he specifically mentioned Mission in the Rain he said he felt exposed when singing it (again paraphrasing, not quoting). It's also my favorite Jerry song.

Brings me back to a time when I had nothing but I had everything, I was free. They asked me to leave the mission in Downtown San Diego, highly addicted to cocaine and Tijuana, I believe that experience was necessary, I can also remember sleeping on the sidewalk and waking up in the morning with socks next to my sleeping bag, they said come out and bring us soup before bed at night, nostalgia is a feeling that I can’t explain it’s kind of overwhelming!I am embrace that experience , There’s nothing like just sidewalk surfing couch surfing and doing the next show. I remember doing this (walking in the Mission), and hearing this song in my head as I was going home tripping my brains out from the Stone. I also have some good stories about the Keystone in Palo Alpo(sic) too. I could hear Jerry play in all the different street noises. Thank you Jerry and the Jerry Garcia Band (especially the girls), Bill Graham, Berry Melton, Merle Sanders John Khan, John Cipollina, for all the priceless good times. Jerry shows were my favorites. It was church. One night I had to drive home and I was REALLY trippin. (Rose Crystal) I always could drive no problem on Acid. (I drove some OLD buses across the country tripping later on). I lived in Fremont at the time so I also had to drive over the Bay Bridge. I had this 68 Mercury Monterey (rare car today) big Tuna Boat, but it was a really fast Tuna boat. As soon as I was getting on the bridge it started to pour down, balls ass rain. It wasnt too bad on the bridge because the lights and all the colors I was seeing. After the suspension part, the rain was hitting the car like a wall of water. I couldn't stop, the show was still ringing in my head. My eyes were having a hard time focusing from the Acid and the buckets of water and the colors I was seeing, and I was starting to think that this might be it for moi, when I saw 2 little red brake lights. It was a bobtail heading my way and I latched on to the back of that motherfucker, and these lights took me all the way to Fremont. I poured the entire drive home until I got off the freeway. I remember Johnny Winter was at the show too, not playing, just watching. I this was probably the strongest Acid I ever got dosed with, and let me tell you, I was pro. I was sitting behind where he was and he literally looked like a skeleton to me, albino dude, and that white hair. Someone needs to hurry up and build a Time Machine.

I doubt that Jerry believed in a white man in the sky... whose "Bible" had rules for servant (slave) ownership...ie Exodus 20 - 21... Hey... I'm sure Jerry's Bible was much simpler.... something like: Be Kind... Don't be a Cunt.... But what do I know... I didn't know Jerry personally...

I turn and walk away Then I come 'round again It looks as though tomorrow I'll do pretty much the same I must turn down your offer But I'd like to ask a break You know I'm ready to give everything For anything I take Someone called my name You know I turned around to see It was midnight in the mission And the bells were not for me Come again, walking along In the mission in the rain Come again, walking along In the mission in the rain Ten years ago, I walked this street My dreams were riding tall Tonight I would be thankful Lord For any dream at all Some folks would be happy Just to have one dream come true But everything you gather Is just more that you can lose Someone called my name You know I turned around to see It was midnight in the mission And the bells were not for me Come again, walking along In the mission in the rain Come again, walking along In the mission in the rain All the things I planned to do I only did half way Tomorrow will be Sunday Born of rainy Saturday There's some satisfaction In the San Francisco rain No matter what comes down The mission always looks the same Someone called my name You know I turned around to see It was midnight in the mission And the bells were not for me Come again, walking along In the mission in the rain Come again, walking along In the mission in the rain
