He was so good at this point, voice still good and picking like a madman. I like it all but his 40s were the pinnacle of his prowess.

I was at this show!! Actually Jerry went on first... Bobby and the Midnights came on last. This caught many heads buy surprise and every one started eating the acid! LOL Billy on drums was a total surprise to me. I was right in front of the soundbaord. This entire spring tour was off the chain...

This is some legendary Jerry. The climax right before the end of that second solo... I know how that must've been. Everyone screaming. Jerry knew how to work a crowd, mentally and emotionally. I saw some great JGB, but never quite like this.
@chinarider80513 жыл бұрын
Work a crowd? Are you getting him and Bobbys constant "rock star" thing that he loved to do. But never once did I feel like Jerry was just "working the crowd", usually I was being moved by the music, both physically, and spiritually. I would not consider anything Jerry ever did, to be "just for show", or to get a reaction. Maybe you got mixed up, and you're thinking about this guy Trey, he plays in some crappy band, with a child lover, and all they know how to do is work a crowd. Because they don't have the ability to do it through sheer emotion, passion sending those sweet sounds into the ether...lol Jerry rarely spoke on stage, It was nothing but pure energy from the music, that moved me, at least. My eyes would close at the start of the 1st set, and not open again til the last note of the encore was played. Just shaking my bones, uncontrollably, to the music...Working a crowd...you have to be joking. I can't imagine that thought ever crossing his mind..I never saw them walk out, and Jerry screams "How we doing tonight, (name of cit)? Are you ready to rock?!?". lol...
@stevec17703 жыл бұрын
@@chinarider8051 I think you misunderstood me. I didn't mean work a crowd in that conventional sense, the way that a "rock star" works a crowd. I thought that would be clear when I said "mentally and emotionally." Jerry connected deeply with his audiences. I believe that a better way to put it would've been... Jerry really knew how to ELEVATE THE CROWD'S CONSCIOUSNESS AND SPIRITUALITY. Maybe I could've found better words to express myself. Anyway, to quote the Grateful Dead movie... "It's always good to see a REAL Deadhead around here." LOL. Take care, brother... and have a happy 2021!
