The Encyclopedia Of Jerry Garcia Music Venues Fourteen years ago, I began writing The Encyclopedia Of Jerry Garcia Music Venues. It's the only book that combines all of Jerry's side band dates and the Grateful Dead's dates together by venue. Alphabetically by state, there are over 1300 venues that include rehearsal, recording, performance, living spaces and planned/canceled show venues. The history of each venue is here including architects, builders, owners, opening night performances and other notable appearances, murals, statues, stage prosceniums, backstage areas, pipe organs, secret rooms, hidden tunnels, restorations and demolitions. Jerry's history at each venue includes the bands he played with, setlists, opening acts and other information giving the reader an idea of what went down at every date on every tour. In many cases via dated photos, what guitar Jerry was playing, and other anecdotal stuff that we love to read. I've added eyewitness reports to as many specific dates as possible. These are numerous, hysterical and heartwarming. Thus far I‘ve collected over 1120 hi res venue photos approved by over 900 photographers. I've utilized college and public library special collections, historical societies, museums, Flickr and others. There aren't any Jerry photos, I have photos of the venues themselves to highlight where he played. Jerry owned over 130 musical instruments in his lifetime, giving away most of them. It's all chronicled in a 300 page section called Jerry's Musical Instruments. Envision a two volume, 2400 page set protected in a slipcase, similar to an old bible. This is a book that resembles the records kept for medieval pilgrimages to holy sites. People will want to know centuries from now where it all took place...so there ya go! On June 3rd the Kickstarter campaign launches with a cool little video starring me, and Jerry! That's where you can get the pre-purchase discount. I need your help to reach my goal in order to print this fantastic book. If I’m successful the book will be printed and ready in March 2024.

Nodding out? LOL! That's freaking hilarious! I think I heard him be pretty close to probably nodding out onstage a couple of times toward the very end when he was just basically present but pick up a Martin and try to play the licks he is pulling off with no effort then tell us how is is about to nod out. These guitars are like fretting a fence! LOL! Kids these days. Miss you Jer! Thanks for giving us your life!

First of let me preface this by saying I love Jerry. This reminds me of the 'fat Elvis', and I love Elvis, so I say that only meaning Elvis circa 77 was looking fat, heart attack coming, but could still sing amazingly, and knowing Jerry would fall into a coma this year, well it reminds me of that. Jerry was so talented and he and Kahn put together some amazing performances and this is great stuff. Thank you

@coyote023 Thank you for your replying in such a detailed way. Jerry Garcia passed over when I went into a detox unit -for alcohol addiction - I heard the news on the B.B.C World service. It rocked me since I had just been trying to explain the lure of the Dead to a citizen. Good luck to you Mr Coyote023. Peace.

Randal...listen to the command Jerry has over that beautiful sounding guitar...anybody whom likes acoustic music would recognize the musicianship after the first notes are struck...stoned or not...this fuckin' guy gets it done...of course, everybody's entitled to their opinion and '86 wasn't his healthiest year, but it's still pure Jerry to me...Peace

Love the concentration - looks as if he'd look at his fingers, but often, I think, he'd just fixate on a point and stare. Sometimes he follows his fingers, of course, you have to, but other times he just knew it, preternaturally.

I gotta tell ya, all these people who say ''garcia is nodding'' or''he is so stoned on dope"" 1st off when you nod you can't play guitar you become motionless. And how many of you hang with garcia to know so much about his habit? How is it that jerry's habit concerns you? The dude had alot on his shoulders it is nice to take yourself to the place that smoking persian takes you trust me it is a beautiful place but it comes at a price,and to stop going to that place is extremely hard to do trustme

Damn I hate heroin!!!!!! No really I love it,but fuck!! Look what it does to you! I know that everyone is lovin' this video,but in all honesty, Jerry's nodding out throughout the whole song.This is so sad! That shit killed him,and countless other human treasures,but we still have to see it for ourselves,and there are only a few endings to a heroin addiction! Death,homelessness,and/or a life long struggle with sobriety!! I love that man!! God bless you Jerry! I wish you were here!!!

No time at all have I claimed to be righteous nor do I see myself to be~Its all about perception brother and there are many different ways to percieve it. Maybe you should be more open minded to others perceptions. If someone said that about me, it would hurt me so therefore I dont like to hear others talked about that way. Thats it. And FYI, I never called anyone disrespectful, I percieved a comment as so.
@mikemccoy34308 жыл бұрын
Starting around 3:45 he starts nodding out. He keeps going in and out for about two minutes. Man was not meant to do that much heroin and stand, let alone put on a concert. More than that he just looks so tired of it all. He was so loved by many,including myself, but he paid a price. We all owe him.

@wobbly585 Back in the mid '70's garcia was turned on to what he was told was opium,but the problem with that was it was not opium but an extremely pure form of heroin, and with an addictive person like jerry it was the beginning of a long road of smoking persian. It is a nasty,nasty jones to deal with,it is sooo much easier to keep doing it than it was to stop. Trying to stop a habit of persian is one of the hardest things to do. Trust me on that. My advice is do not start!!!!!!!!!!!
