I interviewed Jerry Goldsmith once. I was told to wait on his patio, he would be out soon. I began whistling the theme from "Hoosiers/Best Shot." He came out and said, "You like that?" I said, "Yes, I love it ... and I'm from Indiana." Goldsmith told me, "I think it's the best thing I ever wrote." Wow.
@StsFiveOneLima6 жыл бұрын
My personal favorite from Goldsmith is 'Fist Contact'. But this is actually probably the best thing that he ever wrote. I envy that you met him and discussed this piece. I've spent quite a bit of time in Indiana. My parents were both born there. It is as this music describes. It's simply amazing that Goldsmith was able to capture the corn and barns and Interstates and old school buildings and flat land forever in this. I wish that I could have met him. He is, by far, my favorite film composer. I remember exactly where I was, driving, when I heard that he had passed.

Very few movies have scores as incredible, as creative, as grand as the one Jerry Goldsmith composed for Hoosiers... every time I watch the movie, I´m in awe as the basketball scenes flow so perfectly with this score... Goldsmith couldve gone the route he chose for Rudy, used a more basic dramatic OST that puts tears instantly in your eyes because of the overabundance of sorrow... however. this energetic powerful song doesn´t serve as the tearjerker, the way it sounds in the scenes give it a sense of power that leaves you ecstastic and drawn to the movie, little by little the emotion takes in, and you just gotta admire that. Hoosiers is an amazing film, if it werent for this masterpiece of a socre the movie wouldnt have had the sheer impact it has now

even though a lot of people think that this great movie is about basketball, that's just the undertone of the film its about triumph of the spirit, its what gene Hackman says in his final speech don't get get caught up in winning or loosing this game, if you put your heart and soul into being the best that you can be I don't care what the score board's say, as far as I'm concerned we're going to be winner's, best basketball ball movie of all time, best shot.

I was at the very first showing ever of the completed version of "Hoosiers" at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, which was for the local people who were in the movie. I knew several of them and the invited me. The governor got to see the second showing that evening. About 30 seconds into the show, with this music playing to the sunrise I leaned over to one of the others and said "I like this movie already." I had been to the state finals in Hinkle Firehouse as our team played in the 1967 State Finals, and later covered more than 20 state finals as the photographer of the IHSAA. I still love to watch this movie and listen to this wonderful music.

As good as this movie was, Jerry Goldsmith's Soundtrack made it even better. The synth line was in stark contrast to what we were seeing but it also showed us that courage, drive and determination are just as relevant today as they were then.

1:45 - "The Moment": it's a thing, in sports, that you can look up. Some of statistically best athletes in history aren't as well remembered as some with lesser stats who are Legend, because of either "understanding The Moment", or just plain being an intricate part of it as it happened. On this song, the greatest sports movie song of them all, 1:45 is "It", where It begins, and the feeling of a fading dream suddenly changes to one of the greatest things ever seen. You can play it for any comeback, ever, in any sport or conflict, and it will MAKE you want to give the famous last full measure of devotion, to whatever that game, battle or cause.

If Goldsmith made ready-meals, the ready-meals would walk themselves out of the supermarket, unwrap themselves, turn the oven on until they were sizzling hot, and then walk themselves over to your dinner table. And they'd be so nutritious that you'd pack on muscle just by eating them, and you'd live a 100 years longer just because you ate Jerry Goldsmith ready-made meals. Its a shame then, that he wasn't in the meal making business. However, I'll take his music as a workable alternative.
